From the President Roy Stanley, 3L

Hello once again every-one. A special thanks goes out to Melissa Miller and VooDoo Lounge for the spectacular party they threw for us on Thursday. Everyone I have talked to agreed that a good time was had by all. Last week we had our first president’s meeting where the SBA and our student club and organizations presi-dents came together to discuss our goals for the upcoming year. The 4 goals of the SBA and Student organizations as a whole will be to 1) ad-vance our local and na-tional reputation ; 2) Streamline and organize communication and in-teraction among stu-dents ;3) Assist in the career and professional development of our stu-dent body; 4) Strengthen the network between students and SCU alumni. Throughout the year our campus organi-zations will host numer-ous events that are aligned with the above mentioned goals. At SCU, one of our greatest resources is our diverse collection of student or-ganizations, which give students an opportunity to build networks throughout our local and national legal commu-nity. At the ABA meeting in Chicago one of the meetings I attending was a round table for SBA presidents, at that meet-ing I realized how unique our student organiza-tions and SBA truly are. In comparison our SBA budget of $100,000 is

roughly 5X the amount given to other SBA’s. Therefore many of the extracurricular opportu-nities available at SCU are unheard of at other schools. Here at SCU students have a unique opportunity to make a name for ourselves in the legal community. There-fore it is important that we as students stay in-volved and active in our student organizations. Remember club day is this Wednesday; this is your opportunity to explore our campus or-ganizations. Also at Club Day we will have our signups for SBA rep-resentatives and for our SBA Administrative com-mittees, those commit-tees are Finance, Social, and Law Career Services. The SBA representatives serve as our student congress which assists the SBA executive board in a wide variety of our functions and responsi-bilities. The finance committee serves to as-sist the SBA in making decisions in our student club budgetary process. The social committee helps to plan all of our social events during the year. The LCS student council which I men-tioned last week will serve to specifically ad-dress the needs of stu-dents in regards to Law Career Services. Come out on Wednesday sign up and get involved…. See you in the Hallways, Roy R. Stanley SBA President

Top Ten Hints That You May Be An SCU Law Student: (not all from personal experience)

“Heard in Bannan” — Student Submissions Page Send article contributions, letters to the editor, top fives, personals, and classified to [email protected].

The Grapevine strives to provide an accessible weekly publication for students to express themselves. “I disagree with what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it” - Voltaire

Welcome back to all the beautiful people that chose to attend Santa Clara! For some the summers have been short, busy, or maybe even expensive, but it’s good to see we all made it back to school. For some of you, the journey is almost over, for most there is still a ways to go. Although law school can be a long and drawn out battle, I hope that we all have a chance to laugh at ourselves a little, and at life in general. As a wise and sage 3L, I will try and bring a little levity to life at law school during the year. If you have any humorous sugges-tions, you may contact me by e-mail at [email protected]. Cheers Mates, Devin Brown

You’ve blown over $10K studying abroad. 6. You’ve told someone that they are precluded from asking you out by res judicata.

5. You’ve been hot tubbin’ at the Villas. 4. You’ve hooked up with a classmate at a bar review. 3. You’ve left your credit card overnight at the Hut. 2. You’ve gained 30 lbs. from eating Stuft Pizza at lunch meetings. 1. You have lost all touch with reality!!
