Dear Members and Participants, I write with gratitude to the entire community in cele-brating the success of the Vallejo Senior Citizens Council and its Florence Douglas Center. As we hope to close the chapter on the global pandemic, we are preparing to welcome everyone back to participate at the Center. The COVID-19 pandemic has created unique chal-lenges for our seniors. It has interrupted our schedule of activities, classes, seminars, club meetings and services. During the past year we adapted to the pan-demic environment by creating an online schedule of activities and staying connected with our participants through phone calls, emails, and automated informa-tional calls. With your help, we can truly make the Center better than ever! The Center is still here and is coming back after 17 months of struggling without our normal income from our Annual Gala, Bingo, Thrift Store, and other fund-raising activities. We are carefully planning the future of the Center so it can remain as a hub of positive en-ergy in Vallejo. We plan to continue offering telephone and online activities and when the time is right, offer physically distanced and safe in-person classes, activ-ities, and seminars designed for participants age 50+. We need your help – specifically your financial help through donations, purchasing tickets and/or donating an item for the auction to our upcoming annual “Bollywood” International Gala & Auction. The goal of the International Gala & Auction is for the community to come together and raise the much-needed operational funds to support the Center as we begin welcoming back our participants to help them thrive in life through active participation.
