Manager’s Notes

Generally Speaking

I'm sorry about another space story, but... at theheight of the Cold War, President Kennedy made the

following proclamation in a special message to Con-gress “that this nation should commit itself to achievingthe goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man onthe moon and returning him safely to the earth.”

At the time of the announcement, the country did nothave the scientific or technological resources to deliver this promise. In fact,we were well behind the Soviet Union in space exploration. To make the taskeven more challenging, President Kennedy was killed 2 ½ years after thisspeech.

President Johnson quickly assumed the responsibility and, as the story goes, planned a trip to NASA to get an update on the status. While touring the fa-cility, he ran into a janitor cleaning up a spill; whereby, the President pro-ceeded to introduce himself and ask the co-worker’s role with NASA. Insteadof the anticipated “janitor” response, this gentleman said…he was helping toput a man on the moon.

I shared the above story at a Wetherington Managers meeting last monthand asked for a commitment to this concept from every manager. Obviouslywe are not putting a man on the moon, but our commitment to exceptionalmember service needs to be unwavering. They all accepted and agreed thatduring these unsettling times when labor dollars are stretched to the maxwe will be determined to continue providing you the type of service you’vecome to expect from Wetherington employees.

We also reinforced our Core Values (below) and stressed the importance ofeach employees commitment to creating first class memories for our mem-bers on a daily basis.

OUR CORE VALUES

• Respect each other and our members• Honesty & Integrity are key• Commitment - Do what we say we’ll do• Work should be Fun• Have a Sense of Presence - members notice• Be Frugal - treat club money and resources as our own• Put forth your Best Effort always• Communication is King• Always be Friendly & Fair• Always practice a Sense of Urgency

As always, we appreciate your continued support and I hope you will choosethe club as your #1 recreational destination this summer season.
