WELCOMEWe are delighted to present some of the best musicals, drama and dance around, including some exciting Scottish debuts.

The Scottish premiere of Legally Blonde the Musical, which continues to delight audiences in the West End, is getting ever closer, opening in Glasgow at the end of August. Casting for the UK tour has just been announced with West End star Faye Brookes as Elle, Liz McClarnon (Atomic Kitten) as Paulette, Neil Toon (Hollyoaks) as Warner and musical sensation Dave Willetts as Callaghan.

After a sell out run in New York, picking up seven Tony Awards along the way, the Lincoln Center Theater production of South Pacific, considered one of the finest musicals ever written, comes to the Theatre Royal in November. Starring Samantha Womack, Ronnie Mitchell in EastEnders, and Glasgow’s own Alex Ferns, be one of the first to witness this epic production.

Inspired by the million-selling albums of the same name, Dreamboats and Petticoats grabbed the attention of Scottish audiences when it first opened in 2009. Now entering an impressive third year on tour this production has been a firm favourite with our audiences ever since. We are also delighted to welcome Para Handy back 'doon the watter' to Glasgow in this brand new adaptation of Neil Munro's Para Handy tales, starring the excellent Scottish RSC actor Jimmy Chisholm.

Rambert Dance Company celebrates its 85th year at the heart of British dance with the Scottish premiere of Seven for a secret, never to be told, a new work by Artistic Director Mark Baldwin. Finally we are thrilled to present the only Scottish date of Eugene O’Neill’s masterpiece Long Day’s Journey into Night starring the wonderful David Suchet.

If you’re not already following us on Facebook or Twiiter, now is as good a time as any. With so many top notch productions on the horizon this is the quickest way of getting the latest news, reviews, photos and backstage insights. Not only that but there are also unique opportunities to join us for press and group launches and other special events.

We also want to hear from you, so if you have any comments or ideas which you think would help to improve your experience here at the Theatre Royal, or at our sister venue the King’s, please do get in touch. You can email me at [email protected].

I look forward to welcoming you to the Theatre Royal very soon!

DIRECT FROM THE NATIONAL THEATRE AND BROADWAY

Following sell out seasons at the National Theatre and on Broadway, The Pitmen Painters comes to the Theatre

Royal on its national tour prior to opening in the West End. Written by Lee Hall, creator of the worldwide sensation Billy Elliot and directed by Max Roberts, The Pitmen Painters,

has received huge critical acclaim and won the Evening Standard award for Best New Play.

In 1934, a group of Ashington miners hired a professor to teach an art appreciation evening class. Rapidly abandoning

theory in favour of practice, the pitmen began to paint. Within a few years the most avant-garde artists became their friends

and their work was acquired by prestigious collections; but every day they worked, as before, down the mine. Examining

the lives of a group of ordinary men that do extraordinary things, The Pitmen Painters is a humorous, deeply

moving and timely look at art, class and politics.

World-renowned Scottish director David McVicar returns to Scottish Opera to stage his first Rake’s Progress, in partnership with Olivier Award-winning designer John Macfarlane. A colourful tale of debauchery with a bevy of larger-than-life characters, this is the perfect focus for McVicar’s particular brand of incisive storytelling.

A 20th century pastiche of late 18th century opera, the music of The Rake’s Progress owes much of its inspiration to Mozart in Stravinsky’s own distinct
