Visit a college campus and find out about the school B. Volunteer at one of your old schools. C. Cook a full meal for your entire family. D. Volunteer at the Gateway Matters of the Mind Luncheon E. Volunteer to work for one of your teachers in their classroom at Gateway. To prove that you have taken part in an activity you must: 1. Challenge Week provides a unique opportunity to do things that are more difficult during the school year. Here are some ideas for volunteer opportunities, PE hours, and just plain fun. Community Service hours are recorded on-line at http://gateway.volunteermatch.org/ Opportunities for Volunteer Hours:

SF Food Bank: When you volunteer at the Food Bank, you'll help sort and package the food we distribute to food pantries, children's snack programs and soup kitchens throughout San Francisco and Marin — enough for more than 100,000 meals each day. Projects typically involve cleaning fresh produce, repackaging bulk food into family-sized quantities, assembling grocery boxes for seniors, and sorting donations from food drives and grocery stores. In a single shift, you'll be helping thousands of people get the food they need. For details visit: www.sffoodbank.org/

The SF SPCA: offers a variety of volunteer opportunities, and all make a true difference to the animals in our care. We rely on volunteers to care for shelter dogs and cats, conduct adoption counseling, assist clients and veterinary staff at The Leanne B. Roberts Animal Care Center, provide foster care, help with our Community Cats Program, and enrich the lives of people in our community through animal-assisted therapy. Volunteers must be 18 years old or older and able to make a volunteer commitment of three hours per week for six months. Please visit our Youth Programs page to learn more about opportunities for those under 18 years old. For details visit: www.sfspca.org/

Aquarium of the Bay: Animal Care Volunteers assist the Aquarium's staff with maintenance of both aquatic and terrestrial exhibit animals. Duties include cleaning, health care, animal enrichment, food preparation, feeding, and record-keeping. Check it out at http://www.aquariumofthebay.com/ under "make a difference"

Tutoring Opportunities at Gateway Middle School: Contact Mr. Grossman at [email protected]

Glide Memorial: The Volunteer Resource program places about 10,000 volunteers each year, totaling 65,000 hours of service. Serving a meal in the Daily Free Meals program is a transformative experience. The program requires 60 volunteers each day in order to fill the breakfast, lunch and dinner shifts, 364 days a year. And that doesn't even account for the increase in help needed during the holidays. GLIDE has a NEW application to sign up for serving meals! Please visit: http://www.glide.org/

The Boys and Girls Club: Has a number of great programs for students, but also a number of opportunities for teens to volunteer as well. Go to: http://www.kidsclub.org/

Booker T. Washington Community Service Center: Founded in 1919 and incorporated in 1923, Booker T has provided support for African American families since just after the First World War. It has been a place to organize and has responded to community needs with job training, after school and teen programs, recreation, emergency food, counsel on housing and health care, senior clubs and other programs.
