Thematic coordinator:Peter SenterVP, ChemistrySeattle Genetics, [email protected]
Plenary Session: 5 speakers, 3 hours
• Synthetic biology: Craig Ventner (Founder and Chairman of the Craig Ventner Institute)
• Replicating vesicles: Jack Szostak (Harvard, 2009 Nobel Prize in Medicine)• Polymeric matrices for tissue regeneration: Samuel Stupp (Department
of Chemistry, Northwestern University)• From jellyfish to diagnostic imaging: Roger Tsien (UCSD, 2008 Nobel
Prize in Chemistry)• Control of longevity: Gary Ruvkun (Biological Sciences, Harvard)• Cell-cell interactions: Laura Kiessling (Department of Chemistry, University of
Wisconsin)• Chemistry in living systems: Carolyn Bertozzi (Department of Chemistry,
UC Berkeley)• Neurotoxins from the cone snail: Baldomero Olivera (Biochemistry,
University of Utah)• Cancer: the emperor of all maladies: Siddhartha Mukherjee (Department
of Medicine, Columbia University)
Kavli Foundation Lecture
• Monday 5:00-6:00
• Not associated with the plenary session which would normally take place Sunday afternoon
• Ideally, the Kavli Lecture could be the final lecture of the Plenary Session
• My suggestion for the Kavli Lecture is Carolyn Bertozzi, but I would like to have her in the Plenary
Items for discussion
• Does the ACS agree with the plan for the plenary session?
• Any additional or unacceptable speakers?
• How is the Kavli Lecture interfaced with the plenary session?
• What is the budget for the plenary session?
• How should the invitations be issued? I think this needs to be done ASAP
