THERMOBASE is thermal insulation in rolls made of strips of insulating material, hot bond-ed to a polymer-bitumen waterproof membrane. The insulation is produced in four versions:• Self-extinguishing extruded polystyrene foam• Self-extinguishing sintered polystyrene foam• Rock wool with oriented fibres• Continuously laminated self-extinguishing

polyurethane foamThe waterproof membrane which covers the insulation may be:• Reinforced with glass mat• Reinforced with “non-woven” polyester fabric,

stabilised with fibreglass, without “shrinkage”

THERMOBASE TEGOLA is produced specifi-cally for undertile insulation. In this case the four types of insulation are bonded to a polyester-reinforced waterproof membrane coated with slate chippings.

THERMOBASE is manufactured on a produc-tion line which has three cutting units for insu-lating panels. The thin strips of insulation are continuously bonded to the waterproof layer. Perfect lay-out of the strips and the thickness of the material are constantly controlled.THERMOBASE is suitable for insulating and waterproofing roofs of buildings. It combines waterproofing and insulation in a single product. However, it may also be successfully used for insulating wall inter-spaces and underground premises where an efficient vapour barrier is re-quired. In this case the waterproof layer, facing the interior, acts as a vapour barrier.

THERMOBASE solves the problems of both installers and planners:• Flexible: it follows all shapes of laying sur-

faces. Differently shaped roofs can be accu-rately covered without leaving poorly adhered “bridge zones”.

• Stable: the insulation is cut into thin strips. Its thermal expansion and contraction is uni-formly distributed and is less compared to the panel type. Consequently, the waterproof layer is less fatigue stressed.

• Quick to lay: it is in rolls, two layers can be laid in a single quick operation.

• Immediately waterproof: just flame-bond the overlapping edges to obtain an immediately waterproof layer which protects the insulation from unexpected heavy showers. For panels, without edges, flame-bond the sealing strips over the element coupling lines for the same waterproofing effect.

THERMOBASE is compatible with polymer-bitumen waterproofing coatings and with multi-layer bitumen coatings. The on-site bonding of subsequent layers is made easy thanks to the very thick polymer-bitumen membrane with high adhesive power. Therefore, the waterproofing layer can be left visible over Thermobase. The wind won’t de-tach it, the gravel ballasting layer is no longer necessary and light structures not designed to bear excessive loads can easily be water-proofed.

THERMOBASE TEGOLA is the version de-signed to solve the problems of under-tile wa-terproofing and thermal insulation. It can be produced with all four types of insulation: ori-ented rock wool, polystyrene foam, extruded polystyrene and polyurethane foam. The top waterproof membrane consists of a polymer-bitumen sheet reinforced with “non-woven” polyester fabric stabilised with fibre-glass. The visible face of the membrane is treated with slate mineral chippings hot bonded at a temperature of180°C, with the exception of an 8 cm slate-free lateral strip - the latter allows sealingof the overlapping edge, usually included on one side of the heat insulation. If the product has no edge, two 8 cm side strips of the membrane are left slate-free to facilitate sealing the connecting strip in these cases too. The mineral coating serves as an anti-slip sur-face and provides solid anchorage

for cement mortar when tiles are laid directly on the insulation. Once a seamless joint is ob-tained with the edge or with the flame-sealed connecting strips, you immediately obtain a waterproof, resistant surface. This surface will protect the work against sudden rain and ena-bles the tile layer to be laid very quickly.

THERMOBASE TEGOLA guarantees efficient heat insulation and reliable waterproofing pro-tection even in the case of shifted or broken tiles. For the laying systems, please consult our specific technical documentation (see technical specifications no. 7).

In addition to the traditional bonding and me-chanical securing systems used in the wa-terproofing sector, THERMOBASE can be flame secured on the following innovative Index membranes:• PROMINENT• TECTENE BV STRIPUse PROMINENT for laying heat resistant

THERMOBASES such as THERMOBASE PUR and THERMOBASE FR, use TECTENE BV STRIP for THERMOBASE PSE and THERMO-BASE PSE/EX. Flame bonding on the special Index membra-nes enables easier laying even on pitched roofs, with considerable savings in transport costs and laying time.

You no longer have to wait for the bitumen to melt in the boiler and there’s no need to tran-sport either oxidised bitumen or the boiler. By using a roll of the special new multi-purpose va-pour barriers - PROMINENT and TECTENE BV STRIP - you simultaneously obtain both vapour tightness and bonding of the heat insulation.

All THERMOBASE versions can be ordered without the side edge and are therefore supplied with an overlapping strip in polymer-bitumen membrane with the same type of cover as the insulation, in 0.14×10 metre rolls.

THERMOBASE PSE its made of self-extin-guishing sintered polystyrene foam with a λ value for type 80 of 0.0369 W/m K, and for type 120 of 0.0362 W/m K. It is cut into 50 mm wide strips, which are hot bonded to a polymer-bitumen waterproofing membrane, reinforced with glass mat or with “non-woven” polyester fabric stabilised with fibreglass. The upper surface is already covered with a polymer-bitumen membrane and the torch may be used without burning the insulation. When used under the visible part of the coating, THERMOBASE PSE should be mechanically fixed to the support. In the case of surfaces protected by heavy materials, the product can be bonded to an oxi-dised bitumen coating left to cool sufficiently. After securing the insulation on the laying sur-face and accurately lining up the elements, the overlapping edges should be flame bonded. For panels without an edge, the sealing strips are flame bonded onto the element coupling lines.

Subsequently the second waterproofing layer is flame bonded onto the surface astride the sealing strips. THERMOBASE PSE is resistant to compression. It is based high density poly-styrene foam, type 120 can be used under ter-races which will be walked on. The type 80 type should be used under visible surfaces. It absorbs very little water and, where damp is present, its dimensional variations are insignifi-cant. THERMOBASE PSE is safe because it is made with self-extinguishing polystyrene. It is economical because it is already cov-ered with a mem-brane. Polystyrene foam can be used on roofs, saving on insulation and laying costs. For the laying sys-tems, please consult our specific technical documentation (see technical specifica-tions).

THERMOBASE TEGOLA PSE is the version self-protected with mineral slate, designed for under-tile laying.

All THERMOBASE versions can be ordered without the side edge and are therefore supplied with an overlapping strip in polymer-bitumen membrane with the same type of cover as the insulation, in 0.14×10 metre rolls.

THERMOBASE PSE/EX is thermal insula-tion in rolls made of thin strips of single layer self-extinguishing, waterproof, extruded poly-styrene foam. It is hot bonded to a polymer-bitumen waterproofing membrane reinforced with strengthened glass mat or with “non-wo-ven” polyester fabric stabilised with fibreglass. The upper surface is already covered with a polymer-bitumen membrane and a torch may be used without burning the insulation. It is connected to the laying surface with oxi-dised bitumen left to cool slightly or by me-chanical fixing. After bonding the insulation to the laying sur-face and accurately lining up the elements, the overlapping edges should be flame bonded. For panels without an edge, the sealing strips are flame bonded onto the element coupling lines. Subsequently the second waterproofing layer ise flame bonded onto the surface astride the sealing strips.THERMOBASE PSE/EX is extremely resistant

to compression. It is based on high density polystyrene foam and can be used under ter-races which will be walked on, driven over or ballasted with gravel. It does not absorb water and its dimensional variations are insignificant.THERMOBASE PSE/E is safe because it made of self-extinguishing polystyrene. It is eco-nomical because it has a high specific thermal resistance and compared to other insulation products, it can be used in thinner layers. For the applications systems, please consult our specific technical documentation(see technical speci-fications).THERMOBASE TE-GOLA PSE/E is the version self-protect-ed with mineral slate, designed for under-tile laying.

THERMOBASE PUR is made of self-extin-guishing polyurethane foam. It is continuously laminated between two polythene coated glass mat layers or between two bitumen coated feltboard layers. The λ value is 0.030 W/m K. The insulation is cut into 50 mm wide strips which are hot bonded to a waterproof polymer-bitumen membrane reinforced with glass mat or with “non-woven” polyester fabric stabilised with fibreglass. The upper surface is already covered with a polymer-bitumen membrane and a torch can be used without burning the insulation. f all these products, this one offers the high-est thermal resistance for the same thickness. Compared to similar panels, it is more stable because it is cut into strips which are also cen-trally cut lengthways. It is resistant to compression as it is made from high density foam, and can be applied on ter-races to be walked on.It is heat resistant to +100°C and withstands

temperatures of 250°C for short periods of time. Therefore, it can be bonded to the laying surface with hot oxidised bitumen. Mechanical fixing is preferable when applying on timber or fretted metal decks. The joints are sealed by flame bonding the over-lapping edges, or in the case of panels without any edges, the sealing strips are flame bonded onto the joints of the elements.Subsequently a second waterproofing layer is flame bonded astride the sealing strips. For ap-plication systems, please consult our specific technical documen-tation (see technical specifications).THERMOBASE TE-GOLA PUR is the version self-protect-ed with mineral slate, designed for under-tile laying.

All THERMOBASE versions can be ordered without the side edge and are therefore supplied with an overlapping strip in polymer-bitumen membrane with the same type of cover as the insulation, in 0.14×10 metre rolls.

THERMOBASE FR is made of oriented rock wool fibres.Rock wool is chemically inert, it is fire-resistant and offers complete thermal stabilitywhen subjected to sudden temperature changes. In THERMOBASE, the fibres are arranged verti-cally and therefore offer compression resistance 3-4 times higher than that of normal panels of the same density where the fibres are horizontal. The polymer-bitumen membrane applied on the upper face of THERMOBASE consists of an inversion phase compound containing distilled bitumen and elastoplastomeric polymers. The polymer acts as the continuous phase even if it is the minority in-gredient compared to the bitumen and the bitumen acts as the dispersed phase. The membrane is reinforced with glass mat strengthened with “non-woven” polyester fabric stabilised with fibreglass THERMOBASE FR ab-sorbs the roughness of the laying surface, and due to its special shape, it easily adapts to both con-cave and convex surfaces. THERMOBASE FR is

used under visible surfaces and should be bonded to the substrate with a coating of hot oxidised bitu-men or by mechanical fixing. The latter method is preferable on timber roofs and fretted metal decks. The joints are sealed by flame bonding the over-lapping edges, or in the case of panels without any edges, the sealing strips are flame bonded onto the joints of the elements. The next layer is flame bonded on THERMOBASE, unrolling the roll astride the sealing lines. THER-MOBASE FR offers an effective fire barrier which will protect the roof against fire and is, there-fore, suitable for roofs where the membrane is left as a visible cov-ering, particularly on wooden roofs. For the applications systems, please con-sult our specific tech-nical documentation (see technical specifi-cations).THERMOBASE TE-

In addition to THERMOBASE, we also produce prefabricated insulating elements in polystyrene foam. They are pre-coupled to the membrane and can be used for made-to-measure covering of many different types of prefabricated roofs. We call it ISOPREF PSE.We produce prefabricated elements to order in different shapes, thicknesses and densities. These elements are the result of co-operation between the installer and/or the ‘prefabricator’.We can provide you a feasibility study for every problem or situation. We are able to produce one or more elements with a lay-out of notches and cuts, enabling

them to be bent in the most appropriate way to follow the shape that has to be covered. The elements are joined by allowing the panel’s waterproof membrane to project on one or more sides. The ISOPREF PSE elements cut down laying

time and enable delivery of the building works to be industrially planned. This is because most of the insulation and waterproofing work can be carried out at the manufacturer’s plant. This reduces on-site operations to the last stages of applying the waterproof layer.
