accomplish her research. This research is a part of the research of Hibah Bersaing
entitled: Pengembangan Model Pembelajaran Reading Interaktif Berbasis

ABSTRACT
AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ LEARNING STRATEGY IN READING COMPREHENSION OF ENGLISH TEXT (A descriptive study of the second grade students of SMA N 5 Purwokerto in the academic year
2012/2013)

The aims of this research were to describe what learning strategies used by the second grade students of SMA N 5 Purwokerto and to find out the dominant learning strategy used by the students in comprehending English text.
The kind of this research was survey research. The population of the research was the second grade students of SMA N 5 Purwokerto in the academic year 2012/2013 who were consisted of 316 students. The sample of this research was 120 students or 40% of the population amount. The sampling technique that used was random sampling. Questionnaire was used to collect the data of this research.
The result of this research showed that 77.25% of learning strategy which used by the students in reading comprehension of English text was social strategy. The two more learning strategies that were often used by the students were affective strategy (75.70%) and compensatory strategy (67.00%). The three more learning strategies; namely: cognitive strategy (60.83), metacognitive (60.66%), and memory strategy (58.37%) were seldom used by the students to help them comprehend English text.
