Techie Corner

Techie Questions from Members Do you have any specific questions about technology or something specific you would like to see covered in this column? Send your suggestions, questions, and comments to the club at [email protected]. We will try to address them in future issues.

Just came across this and thought it would be good to get it passed on to you right away:

Sextortion Scam Uses Recipient’s Hacked Passwords

Here’s a clever new twist on an old email scam that could serve to make the con far more believable. The message purports to have been sent from a hacker who’s compromised your computer and used your webcam to record a video of you while you were watching porn. The missive threatens to release the video to all your contacts unless you pay a Bitcoin ransom. The new twist? The email now references a real password previously tied to the recipient’s email address.

This is a fraudulent email campaign that seeks to extort payment from users who have had their email addresses and password compromised in earlier breaches of online accounts (such as the 2012 LinkedIn data breach). The emails come from a fraudulent actor who claims to have compromised your computer and has incriminating evidence on the user. What is particularly alarming about this campaign is the inclusion of the user’s real password.

It is very possible that a fraud actor has possession of a password that you currently or previously

have used.

If you have not changed your password for your online accounts recently now would be a good time to do so. It has been found that the passwords included in the fraudulent emails are still in use for some users’ person-al online accounts.

For more details on this scam please see the following:

The Gin Game

By: Bart Bartulli

Two folks in a senior center for the less rich strike up a conversation that leads into a continuing game over the period of time during which each gets to know some of the quirks of the other – some of which irritate the other. Unfortunately Weller Martin believes he is a great Gin player, and has a difficult time dealing with the continual (100%) winning hands of Fonsia Dorsey to the extent that he looses his temper after each game, and ultimately trashes the playing table amid extensive, loud swearing which causes immense tension between them. For a play with a singular focus it was fast moving with an interesting set and a fantastic illusion of a heavy rain & thunderstorm, forcing you to believe that there was a porch roof over their card table. While they appear to be concerned about each other they do not become friends, and in the last scene Weller resorts to profanity (including the unnecessary F.,Bomb) and storms out – ending the game and the play.

CRITICS CORNER

Beehive: The 60’s Musical By: Dean Nerdahl

On Wednesday, September 5, seventy-three retirees and guests were treated to a great concert of 60’s music by seven lovely and talented young gals.

Beehive led us through the decade of the 60’s, featuring the music of Petula Clark, the Supremes, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Leslie Gore, Janis Joplin and many others. It was an excellent tribute to the women who made the music of the era so special, and it also served as a great history lesson of that decade. I thought it was a terrific performance and I enjoyed it very much.

Reservation Policy

Some events/locations do not require tickets, such as DayTrippers Theater, Heritage Center (Masonic Home), Old Log, and all seminars. There are exceptions, for example, when the Old Log’s dining room is sold out, or the Heritage Theater offers a show-only event.

For those occasions where a ticket is not mailed out, the activity coordinator will check you in at the door with our list of paid registrants.

If our schedule is full for any event, you will be notified with a phone call (and be put on a waiting list). You’ll be notified if space becomes available. Be sure to carefully print your phone number on your reservation form. If you require handicap or wheelchair access, please note this on your reservation form.

If you register early (2-3 months in advance) and don’t recall your status for any event, feel free to call the coordinator or the office to confirm your reservation.

Last day to cancel, unless sold out, is typically two weeks or 10 business days before an event. That date coincides with the Club’s commitment to the venue to purchase tickets/seats. If you cancel after the “cancel date” or do not attend the event you paid for, we will cash your check.

Your checks (attached to your reservation form) are not cashed until AFTER an event.
