TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — The burdens that were once laid upon the people have been vanquished (Isaiah 8:23 — 9:3). Psalm — The Lord is my light and my salvation (Psalm 27). Second Reading — Paul exhorts the believers at Corinth: As there is one Christ, so too must there be no divisions among you. (1 Corinthians 1:10‐13, 17). Gospel — After calling his first disciples, Jesus goes throughout Galilee teaching, proclaiming the gospel, and curing the people (Matthew 4:12‐23 [12‐17]).

STEWADRSHIP REFELCTION The prophet Isaiah again records a remarkable prophecy in our First Reading from the Book of Isaiah. Within the context of that Scriptural reading Isaiah says, “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light.” Just prior to that Isaiah speaks of two areas of Israel that are also the names of two of the twelve tribes of Israel — Zebulon and Naphtali. These tribes were located at the northern end of Israel adjacent to the Sea of Galilee.
When the Assyrians invaded and occupied Israel, it was the northern tribes like Zebulon and Naphtali that suffered the most. It was they on whom the greatest gloom and darkness descended. However, the prophecy speaks of the coming of the Messiah, the birth of Jesus, the Light of the World. Thus, “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light.”
Christ is still the light of the world, and He still provides this light and hope to those of us who may feel like we are in darkness and distress. We must embrace Him nonetheless and follow His way by becoming His disciple. If we do that, our lives will indeed be filled with light and great rejoicing. It is up to us to respond. In John 8:12, the Lord tells us, “I am the light of the world; anyone who follows me will not be walking in dark, but will have the light of life.”

REFLECION DOMINICAL El profeta Isaías registra de nuevo una notable profecía en nuestra primera lectura, tomada del libro de Isaías. En el contexto de que la lectura de las Escrituras Isaías dice: "El pueblo que caminaba en tinieblas vio una gran luz." Justo antes de que Isaías habla de dos zonas de Israel, que también son los nombres de dos de las doce tribus de Israel ‐ Zebulon y Neftalí. Estas tribus se encuentran en el extremo norte de Israel junto al mar de Galilea.
Cuando los asirios invadieron y ocuparon Israel, fueron las tribus del norte, como Zabulón y Neftalí que más sufrieron. Fueron ellos los que en la mayor oscuridad y la penumbra descendidos. Sin embargo, la profecía habla de la venida del Mesías, el nacimiento de Jesús, la Luz del Mundo. Por lo tanto, "El pueblo que caminaba en tinieblas vio una gran luz."
Cristo sigue siendo la luz del mundo, y todavía ofrece esta luz y esperanza a los que se puede sentir como que estamos en la oscuridad y angustia. Debemos abrazar Él, sin embargo, y seguir su camino por convertirse en su discípulo. Si hacemos eso, de hecho nuestras vidas se llenarán de luz y una gran alegría. Depende de nosotros para responder. Peter and other dynamic speakers explore the unique life journey that is men’s spirituality. All men 18 and over are welcome! The first Summit drew over 100 men from all over North County – we want to double that number, so bring a friend. The Summit runs from 8:30 AM to 2 PM, with lunch provided. $15/person at the door. HEALING MASS Our quarterly Healing Mass is this week Wednesday, January 25th. 6:30 pm begins music and witness testimonies, 7:00pm is Mass followed by healing prayers. Our celebrant is Fr. Denis Phaneuf, a gifted and active pastoral minister in the diocese of Saskatoon, Canada. He is a teacher and conducts healing and evangelization seminars.

St. James Mission Circle thanks you for your generous support of the shoe and sock drives for the children of migrant farm worker families in Coachella Valley. We collected funds to purchase 1300 pairs of shoes and provided over 1300 pairs of socks. Thirty parishioners travelled out to Galilee Center on Sunday, Jan 8 for the distribution. Because of YOU, these children will now have warm, dry feet during our El Nino winter. Photos of the event will be posted on the Mission Circle website (www.missioncircle.com) as soon as they are available.

We owe our name to Saint John Eudes who founded the Congregation in France in 1643. The Eudists currently operate in 15 countries, most of which are in the developing world.
