Opening Song:

A song runs over the opening action and head credits. The song begins with an electronic flourish and with ‘aah’ sounds from a chorus, before a pop melody beginsThis Independence is sung by Marc Jordan, who has a wiki here.  The song came from Jordan’s first album Talking Through Pictures and the lyrics component kicks in about 48 seconds into the domestic DVD release. At time of writing, the song could be found on YouTube here.Lyrics:The light is bending earlyAround the prodigalThe gunner whispers gentlyHis shadow on the wallThe crowd is bursting from me (we see crowds in the railway station)A single animalIt finds its freedom early

They’re going to take it allThis independenceWe are the mental shellTen thousand bodiesRun from an empty wellAll of your loversAre heroes in my bedAll night the echoesOf breathing headsA falling body near meA silent angry cryA miracle of purposeLooks up into the skyA camera crew is running (we see a camera crew in action on an ad)The world is shrinking fastTonight you drink your coffee (we see trendy coffee drinking)And watch the world aghastThis independenceWe are the metal shellTen thousand bodiesRun from an empty wellAll of your loversAre heroes in my bedAll night the echoesOf breathing heads(Vocalised syllables - there appears to be no actual words - are then given a heavy electronic treatment, as is some sinister laughing). This independenceWe are the mental shellTen thousand armiesRun from an empty wellAll of your lovers

Are heroes in my bedAll night the echoesOf breathing headsThis independenceWe are the mental shellTen thousand armiesRun from an empty well ...(The song slowly fades away under the sounds of the stockbroking firm as Michelle - Kerry Armstrong - enters to begin her day’s work and meets Michael Bergman - John Savage). The end credits begin with Fulera Mama, a traditional Kenyan song with lyrics presumably in Kenyan, following by electronica and a guitar-inflected theme.

Single:

Guy Pearce’s contribution to the sound track was released as a single but did no business and is now rare:

Co-Composer John French:

John French also worked on the music in Boulevard of Broken Dreams. He was more of an engineer and producer than composer, and Milesago has a list of his production credits here, along with this short CV:

John French has been one of Australia's top producer-engineers since the 1970s. John first came to wider attention as the chief engineer at Melbourne's TCS Studios, which was set up as an 'in-house' recording and production facility to provide pre-recording facilities for performers at the GTV-9 television studio in Richmond. During studio down-time, he and colleague John Sayers began recording rock bands, and TCS soon ranked second only to Armstrong's as the studio of choice for rock recording in

Melbourne.John engineered or co-engineered many of the most important Australian rock recordings of the period including albums and singles for Company Caine, Spectrum, Russell Morris, Blackfeather, Madder Lake, The La De Das, The Dingoes and Skyhooks and the award-winning 'Morning Of The Earth' film soundtrack. He also engineered the live recordings for the seminal 1972 Sunbury rock festival. There is another list of credits at Allmusic here.

Co-Composer David Herzog:

Herzog is a composer, producer, engineer and teacher based in Melbourne. He had a Linkedin CV here , which featured this joke:

David is an excellent teacher and a very good guitarist for a collingwood supporter (Ha,Ha).

Guitarist Glenn Proudfoot also provided this reference here:

...Later on, the brother of a friend at school started teaching me. I took lessons from him for about six months or so, and that was really great. It wasn’t until I was 17 that I went to a proper teacher. His name was David Herzog, an incredible guitar player and studio musician here in Australia. He was important to me for filling in the gaps and encouraging me on my path, because technically, I was just too far developed to go back and start at the beginning. David gently pushed me in the direction of understanding how all these different scales were formed and what was possible with them. He’s still a major influence on me, a sort of musical father figure, and we still keep in touch.

Herzog later played on such shows as the Underbelly crime miniseries. Burkhard Dallwitz Soundtracks had a number of recording sessions for various shows on which Herzog played guitar featured here.
