Nascido em Portugal em ‘88, e criado na sua terra materna, Mozambique. Ricardo actualmente vive o seu sonho de infância, que sempre foi ser um piloto de linha aérea. E nos seus tempos livres persegue a sua paixão pelas artes.

O Ricardo exercita maioritariamente a técnica de “Stencil” em tela, mais este jovem também envolve-se em outros ramos tais como,aFotografia,VideoArteDesenhoGráfico.Influenciadopela Cultura “Pop”, arte Contemporânea Moçambicana e os seus arredores. No entanto, este jovem pintor encontra inspiração na vida e a natureza.

Após 2 exposições individuais, o Ricardo pretende continuar a sua imensurável procura de diálogos sobre a vida e a existência

Actualmente preparando três projectos, ”Bits Of Maputo”, “Xapa100” e poderá conferir abaixo o conteudo do seu mais recente projecto - “Heands Up”.

Born in Portugal in ‘88, and raised in his motherland, Mozambique, Ricardo Currently lives his childhood dream as an Airline Pilot. He also engages in a slightly newer passion for art.

Ricardo predominantly dabbles in the stencil and painting medium, but also involves himself in video art, graphic designingandphotography.Highlyinfluencedbypopculture,contemporary mozambican arts, and his surroundings this youngmanfindsinspirationinlifeandnatures’occurrences.

He has had 2 solo exhibitions in Maputo, and intends to continue his never ending search for dialogue about life and existence.

Currently working on a set of artistic projects, ”Bits Of Maputo”, “Xapa100” and you can see bellow the contents of the more recent project - “Heands Up”.

O corpo humano é um veículo através do qual as nossas mentes vivem. Uma interface que nos permite perceber e expressar a dimensão, forma, cor e outras nuances que os humanos partilham e vivem entre eles e o seu ambiente. Através do Heands up Ricardo Jorge transforma os corpos para empenhar-se numa exploração artística de uma linguagem característica destes. Ao trocar as cabeças por mãos, ele revela a textura poética e o potencial emocional que o símbolo tem na linguagem corporal.

Sendo o elemento fundamental do corpo humano, a cabeça lidera a nossa expressão verbal e não verbal. Assim como envolvendo a nossa mente, a nossa consciência, subconsciente, emoções, lógica, processar os sentidos, intenções e (in)sanidade. A cabeça, apesar de ser singular e provavelmente a menos dependente de outras partes humanas, solicita aos seus “pares” a execução da sua manifestação. Por outro lado, a mão, como uma das ferramentas preferidas da raça humana, é a extensãomaiseficienteepolivalentequeanossacabeçatem.Asnossasmãossãomultifacetadas e capazes de realizar acções gentis e precisas ou trabalho pesado, tocar ou acariciar, sentir texturas, peso, forma ou simplesmente exprimir e especialmente exprimir o indescritível. Sendo um dos manifestantes mais activos da expressão humana, a mão tornou-se um ícone de comunicação desde o início da Arte. “Algumas das obras de arte mais antigas descobertas são desenhos e pinturas em paredes dentro de cavernas pré-históricas. Entre imagens de humanos e animais selvagens uma das imagens mais recorrentes é a impressão da mão: um símbolo universal da comunicação humana.”1

O título do projecto, que mistura as palavras cabeça (head) e mãos (hands) reflectequeambasaspartesdocorposãocriadorasdasdeixasverbaisenãoverbais que utilizamos para comunicar. Considerando a ideia que “a cabeça é mais informativa acerca da natureza de uma emoção, enquanto que o corpo é mais informativo acerca da intensidade da emoção”1, Ricardo olha para como o corpo traduz a ‘intensidade’ do estado emocional e metal da cabeça e como este verbaliza as suas questões numa linguagem única mas válida. O seu trabalho foca-se,deformamaisprecisa,naformaemcomoasmãospodemreflectira“natureza”da emoção de cada um. Como artista, Ricardo Jorge sabe que a criação depende da capacidade de pensar e questionar, de estar ciente daquilo que é muitas vezes ignorado ou tido como certo. Porém, ele acredita também que as mãos que criam tem mais histórias para partilhar. A complexidade de criar tais histórias é provavelmente uma das razões principais por detrás do seu interesse em explorar a ideia que a mão substituiu, de varias formas, o olho como a janela da alma. O dialogo que se pretende em Heands up, é acerca da sincronia e separação que existe entre o pensamento, emoção, acção, a consciência e subconsciente. Assim como as formas intrínsecas que nós manifestamos todas estas formas das nossas mentes, por vezes com ou sem controlo, permitindo maneirismos extremamente honestos mesmo quando desconhecidos. Heands up é uma dança rítmica entre intenção e realização. É uma descoberta acerca de estratégias de evasão, negação e honestidade.

The human body is the vessel through which our minds live. An interface allowing us to understand and express the dimension, shape, colour and various other nuances humans share and experience amongst each other, and with their environments. Through Heands up Ricardo Jorge transforms the bodies to engage in an artistic exploration of a language of their own. By switching the heads with hands he reveals the poetic texture and emotional potential the sign holds in body language.

Being the paramount element of a human body, the head leads our verbal and nonverbal expression. Also encasing our mind, our conscious, subconscious, emotions, logic, processing of senses, intentions and (in)sanity. The head, although a singular and probably the least dependent of other human parts, requires its “peers” for the execution of its manifestation.

On the other side, the hand, as one of humankind’s preferred tools, is the most efficientandmulti-taskingextensionourheadhas.Ourhandsaremultifacetedand capable of performing gentle and precise actions or heavy labour, to touch or caress, to feel the texture, weight, form, or simply express, and especially express the unspeakable. Being one of the most active demonstrators of human expression, the hand has found itself to also be an icon of communication since the dawn of Art. “Some of the earliest artworks discovered are drawings and paintings on walls deep within prehistoric caves. Amongst images of humans and wild animals a recurring image is the hand print: a universal symbol of human communication.”1

Thetitleoftheproject,mixingthewordsheadandhandsreflectsthatbothbodyparts are creators of the verbal and non-verbal cues we use to communicate. Considering the idea that “the head is more informative about the nature of an emotion, while the body is more informative about the intensity of an emotion”1, Ricardo looks at how the body translates the ‘intensity’ of the emotional and mental state of the head, and how it too verbalizes its inquiries in an unique butvalidlanguage.Hisworkfocusesmorepreciselyintohowhandscanreflectthe “nature” of one’s emotion.

As an artist, Ricardo Jorge knows that creation depends on the ability to think and question, to be aware of what is often ignored or taken for granted, but he also believes that the hands that create have further stories to share. The intricacy of creating such stories is probably one of the leading reasons behind his interest in exploring the idea that the hand has, in many ways, replaced the eye as the window to the soul. The dialogue intended in Heands up, is about the synchrony and disassembly existing between thought, emotion, action, the conscious and the subconscious. As well as the intrinsic ways in which we manifest all these forms of our minds, at times with or without control, allowing for the utmost honest mannerisms even when unknown. Heands up is a rhythmic dance between intention and realization. It delves into strategies of avoidance, denial and honesty.
