The Isis River Farmhouse Weddings

Oxford’s hidden gem on the river…

The Island & Venue

The Isis, as we usually call it, is a unique and special place situated on a large island in the River Thames, about a mile south of Oxford’s dreaming spires. Most of the island is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, famed for its flood meadows and spring show of rare Snakeshead Fritillary and Dragonflies. The main stream of the Isis, as the river is known in Oxford, flows right by the garden. The gardens are large, with almost three acres of lawns, reed beds and willow, set in Oxford’s green belt. There are views of distant spires in central Oxford, of the Norman tower of Iffley Church, and of the famous Iffley lock. The trees are impressive in their shapes and sizes and variety – yew, black poplar, pollarded crack willow, and ancient horse chestnut. The wildlife is ever present – sparrowhawks and red kites overhead; foxes and muntjac (the ‘barking deer’) in and out of the reed beds; and moorhens (‘river chickens’!), ducks, and herons. On the River, there are canoes, and rowing boats, and cruisers, and the occasional punt.

The weddings and events that we host are very different in terms of style, size, entertainment, and cost. Our venue options, food options, and drinks options, are designed to offer maximum flexibility for you rather than constraining 'packages'. We have two unique venues which allow us to host a very wide range of wedding celebrations from small intimate weddings of 20 to 60 persons, relaxed and informal garden party/festival style weddings for up to 400 guests or traditional weddings for up to 300 guests. Our food represents excellent value for money and is all home-made, locally produced, and blends good quality ingredients in a simple way to provide dishes chosen by you from our extensive menu which we can bespoke for that individual touch.

We can design bespoke menus, and recommend transport, accommodation, flowers, entertainment, photographers, and any other requirement to help create your unique wedding.

THE RIVERSIDE MARQUEE AND GEORGIAN MUSIC ROOM

The Riverside Marquee is perfect for smaller weddings. With a private entrance onto your Riverside gardens and private mooring, it allows you to arrive by boat or take a short but beautiful stroll along the river where we can serve your drinks and canapes right on the riverfront. This venue also offers a courtyard area with a firepit and outside seating with a private view of the meadows. There are plenty of unique photo opportunities around the historic Iffley lock, bridge, and woods, all situated around the venue. The marquee has seating for 120 and can be themed to your design. From the marquee there are double doors leading into the Music room of the main Georgian building which provides a characterful space with dancefloor and stage for DJ’s or bands, a private bar, and a cosy seating area with log fire.
