Since then, the free event snowballed into the annual Downtown Countdown, including such festivities as outdoor family fun, fireworks, and performances from the likes of many top Canadian bands and musicians such as Blue Rodeo, Sloan, The Trews, Jeff Healey, Kim Mitchell, and April Wine. Once again, this year’s celebration promises a perfect way for you and your family to bring in the New Year. The City of Barrie will be the place to be to ring in 2011! Also performing are Final Thought, an upcoming Barrie band, and Atlantis Blueprint, who deliver a sharp-edged set of riff-savvy anthems coloured by funk-jazz overtones, reggae-tinged stomps, and power ballads, recently sharing the stage with the likes of Thornley, Finger Eleven, April Wine, David Wilcox, Colin James, illScarlet, Grady, and The Arkells. The fun begins at 7:00 PM at Barrie’s City Hall, with Judy & David, a high energy, interactive show for families along with lots of other activities, including horse-drawn wagon rides, skating on the Circle at the Centre, and face painting, all for free. You can also warm-up with hot food and snacks from various vendors. Most importantly, little ones don't have to stay- up late for the New Year fireworks.
