A re you a performer or part of an entertainment ensemble? Is your community group looking to connect with the public? Well, it’s that time of the year when the City of Barrie searches for local performers, such as bands, choirs, dance troupes, theatre groups, and individual performers, of all cultural backgrounds as well as community groups and not-for-profits to help create a celebration of our community. Celebrate Barrie is a free outdoor festival held every June at Centennial Park. This “friend-raising” tradition began as a one-time celebration in 2000 commemorating the new millennium and it was so popular that it continues to grow every year. Celebrate Barrie includes the chance to meet with various community groups and enjoy festivities such as inflatables and rides, local entertainment on two stages, petting zoo, historical reenactments, and so much more all set along the beautiful shore of Kempenfelt Bay. Last year, a crowd of over 18,000 attended the festivities where more than 50 community groups provided hands-on activities for kids. In addition, over 15 talented performances wowed the crowds throughout the day. The music ranged from folk to pop rock and country with performances given by individuals, bands, dance and theatre groups. For community groups, this is an opportunity to connect with people in a fun environment and share information about their organization. Community groups wanting to participate in the festival must be willing to provide a free and unique hands-on activity. In exchange, booth space is provided (including a tent, table, and chairs if required). Groups are asked to submit a letter or email, including information on their organization, full contact information, and a unique idea for a hands-on activity. For entertainers, anyone is invited to apply - from grassroots groups to emerging talent and established artists. Celebrate Barrie is a great way to share talent with the community and showcase Barrie’s homegrown artists. If you are a performer or part of a group interested in showcasing your talent at Celebrate Barrie submit a letter or email including a promotion package or EPK (if available), detailed information on your act and full contact information. Please include a sample of a recent performance or recording by CD, DVD, or direct link to music or video posted on a website. The Celebrate Barrie Entertainment Committee, a group of volunteers in Barrie’s culture and music scene, will begin the process of developing a diverse and exciting line-up in April. For young band members between the ages of 11 and 19, Barrie’s Young People’s Centres present Celebrate Barrie Battle of the Bands! If you're in a local band and interested in performing, submit a letter or email of interest that includes your contact information and a sample of a recent performance or recording for review by CD, DVD, or direct link to music or video posted on a website, MySpace, or YouTube. Please note that only selected performers and community groups will be contacted. This year Celebrate Barrie will be held on Saturday, June 4th. For more information, visit www.barrie.ca.
