“Native Desert Oasis” Theme Narrative
The “Native Desert Oasis” theme is infl uenced by the nearby confl uences of the Indian Bend Wash. Its wide swath of greenery and multi-use pathway system in the midst of a thriving desert city provides a lush desert oasis for numerous outdoor activities. The aesthetic intent is to refl ect the natural elements of the Indian Bend Wash greenbelt with its occasional fl oodwaters fl owing toward the Salt River while accommodating a wide variety of recreational activities linking to Thomas Road. A native desert plant palette exhibits a commitment to sustainability and water conservation while a swath of lush desert adapted plants evoke the “oasis” quality of the landscape. Gently contoured mounds and basins provide a variation in grade, visual relief and pleasing aesthetic value. Colors, textures, materials, and plantings should refl ect the relationship between the Indian Bend Wash Greenbelt and Thomas Road.
