• Graduated from Douglas High School in 1937
• Formal art education not available to Miller during childhood
• Earned a B.S. from Virginia State University in 1947
• Joined the military after graduation
• After discharge from the military in 1964, Miller attended the Ray Vogue School of Art in Chicago
•Miller and fellow student Emmett McBain ". . .were the only African-Americans [there] besides the janitors."
• Briefly worked for design firm Gerstel/Loeff
• Then joined internationally renowned firm Morton Goldsholl Associates where he worked for 35 years
