THPRD’S FREE PARTY IN THE PARK RETURNS JULY 30
Party in the Park, the Tualatin
Hills Park & Recreation District’s
biggest community event of the
year, returns to Beaverton on
Saturday, July 30. The 11th annual
event – which includes the
Beaverton International
Celebration – will be staged at the
Howard M. Terpenning Recreation
Complex, 15707 SW Walker Road,
Beaverton.
Thousands of area residents attend this day-long festival each year to enjoy a wide
array of fun, family-oriented activities, the majority of which are free of charge. Most
activities take place from 11 am to 5 pm.
“Party in the Park and the Beaverton International Celebration bring residents of all
ages, interests and backgrounds to THPRD to celebrate summer together,” said THPRD
General Manager Doug Menke. “It’s an inexpensive way for individuals and families to
enjoy a fun, active day among their friends and neighbors.”
The fun begins with the Family Triathlon at 9 am. This non-competitive event
includes a 50-yard swim, two-mile bike ride, and 1/3-mile run. Participants are
encouraged to pre-register at thprd.org; this activity does have a small fee to defray costs.
At 11 am, the party begins, both on and around the outdoor soccer fields.
In the non-competitive Family Triathlon, parents (and sometimes grandparents) participate with children on a fun-filled course that includes a 50-yard swim, two-mile bike ride and 1/3-mile run.

Interactive events and activities
will be available all over the park,
from multiple climbing walls and
giant inflatables to arts and crafts
and face painting. THPRD’s Rec
Mobile will be on hand to offer a
sampling of games and activities
for guests of all ages, and
THPRD’s Nature Mobile will
provide nature and science learning
opportunities, activities and games.
The Beaverton Police
Department will host its popular K-9 unit demonstration from 11:30 am to 12:45 pm.
The Beaverton International Celebration, presented by the City of Beaverton, runs
from 11 am to 5 pm and features music, dance, art, crafts, food, traditional dress and
ceremonies from around the world. Performances are scheduled on two stages throughout
the afternoon. Organizations, associations and businesses representing several of the
area’s cultural communities will have information on display.
A diverse selection of food and beverage vendors will provide Party in the Park
guests an opportunity to enjoy meals that reflect the international flavor of the day’s
events – the menu includes hot dogs, bratwurst, Filipino noodles, pizza, quesadillas,
Brazilian salgados, chicken teriyaki and Hawaiian shaved ice.
Free swimming will be available at the Aquatic Center from 1:30-3:30 pm and 4-6
pm. Drop-in tennis will be available on the Hardin Stadium Court from 11-5 except for a
clinic from 2 to 3. On Field #1, coaches with the Portland Timbers youth program will
share techniques and skills at a drop-in session from 3-5 pm. Meanwhile, inside the
Athletic Center, there will be drop-in basketball, pickleball, badminton, volleyball and
table tennis. Basketball and pickleball will also be played on the AC’s outdoor courts.
Even more interactive fun will be available on Field #5, formerly the home of The
Classic at T-Hills show of vintage automobiles. Activities will include Bubble Ball races
and field games, bocce, jenga, corn hole and ladder ball, a Cabela’s fly fishing
demonstration, and a Disc Golf Challenge presented by Oregon State Parks.
The Beaverton International Celebration returns for its sixth year as a featured part of Party in the Park. A variety of cultural dance and music performances – complete with colorful costumes – will be showcased.
