W ith the winter already here, parantha has become everybody’s comfort food. Nothing can beat maa ke hath ke garma garam paranthe with butter over it. But with homemade parathas comes the dilemma whether to pan fry them with butter or ghee? People have their preferences but if you are a health conscious and want to know which is healthier, read this. Ghee After being labelled as a culprit for weight- gain and termed unhealthy for years, ghee has finally made a comeback in the Indian kitchen. Ghee helps to keep your gut healthy, has good fats and is great for skin. Ghee can also help increase good cholesterol and lower the bad cholesterol. Butter The traditional butter made by churning milk cream is light and healthy. But the butter that you get in markets nowadays is an emul- sion of milk fat in water with milk protein as an emulsifying agent. This butter is processed and has added salt. Nutritional comparison Ghee is unprocessed fat and contains omega 3 fatty acid along with vitamin A. While forti- fied butter may only contain vitamin A. Ghee has 900 Kcal per 100 grams of serving along with no trans-fat and 60 per cent satu- rated fats. While butter has 717 Kcal per 100 grams of servings along with 3 grams of trans- fat and 51 per cent saturated fats. Which is better? Ghee is used to fry pooris, paranthas and make halwa. Using ghee for frying paranthas is a better option because ghee has a higher smoking point, which makes it a better choice as compared to butter for frying paranthas. Tip When buying ghee, make sure the label does- n’t read ‘vegetable ghee’. Vegetable ghee is not traditional ghee and does not offer many health benefits. How to store Homemade ghee can be stored at room tem- perature for three months in an airtight con- tainer and away from direct sunlight. Butter is usually stored in a refrigerator dur- ing most parts of the year. Storing it in the fridge is the right way to increase its shelf life. Should you fry your paranthas in butter or ghee? Beat bad hair days with simple tips W ith the winter season knocking at the door, there's an excitement to bring out the warm jackets and cosy hoodies. But then there's also some concern about dry hair and dandruff problems. Stopy worrying and follow some easy tips to make your hair look good, suggests Samay Dutta, Director - NOIR, the Luxury Blow Bar and Jagadeesh. P, Trainer, Paul Mitchell India. - Take a hot oil massage: A hot oil massage once a week from coconut or almond oil will be a breather for the scalp. This will help you to prevent a dry and flaky scalp and improve your blood circulation resulting into nourish- ing hair this winter. - Trimming: Trimming is essential for any naturalist regardless of the weather, but bears particular importance in winter sea- son. Cool air can cause hair to become dry and brittle which can lead to breakage and split ends. Trimming ends regularly will stop hair from breaking. - Invest in a good, deep conditioner: As we all know, conditioning is necessary after shampooing. During winter, your focus should be on deep conditioners. This will be a magic formula to keep your scalp away from dryness. - DIY Hair Mask: Just like the different types of masks we use on our skin, hair masks have become one of the hottest beau- ty trends right now. Cold weather is the cause for dry scalp and one should keep it hydrated. Simple routine of weekly deep con- ditioning treatment at home for 15 minutes penetrates your hair with all the natural flowing oils. - Don't overwash your hair: Stay away from washing your hair everyday in winter. Everyday washing will soak the hair's natu- ral oil and make your hair look dull, unhealthy and without any moist. Wash your hair twice a week for frizz-free hair. - Protective styling: Cover up your hair as much as possible during colder months. Tucking your hair away will eliminate dam- age and dryness caused by the weather. Styles such as buns, wigs, weaves and head scarves should be your best friend this sea- son. Make sure hair is hydrated and condi- tioned before tucking it away. Cold weather is thecause for dry scalp and one should keep ithydrated. Simple routine of weekly deep con-ditioning treatment at home for 15 minutespenetrates your hair with all the naturalflowing oils.

- Don't overwash your hair: Stay away fromwashing your hair everyday in winter.Everyday washing will soak the hair's natu-ral oil and make your hair look dull, unhealthy and without any moist. Wash yourhair twice a week for frizz-free hair.

- Protective styling: Cover up your hair asmuch as possible during colder months.Tucking your hair away will eliminate dam-age and dryness caused by the weather.Styles such as buns, wigs, weaves and headscarves should be your best friend this sea-son. Make sure hair is hydrated and condi-tioned before tucking it away.
