Dear Students, Parents & Carers, Much of my teaching career, of 34 years, has been spent at Port Fairy Consolidated School and it is with much sadness that I have come to the end of my time at this wonderful place!. As Principal of Port Fairy Consolidated School, I have always promoted an open door policy and I sincerely hope that each and every member of our school community, has felt listened to and supported by me. My door has truly always been open! It now seems a bit ironic that ‘the heart of the school’ has always been a significant driver in my time as Principal and my own health issues were also ‘heart related’. Having been diag- nosed with a significant heart condition in September 2015, I have been on somewhat of a ‘bitter sweet’ journey since then. Thankfully coming out the other side of my surgery with an excellent prognosis and a new start. And although I do love this school with all my heart I have come to the realisation that it is time to hand over the reins to a new Principal and I am sure that Mrs Kath Tanner will be an exceptional leader. As Educational Leader, I believe my lasting legacy will be our new approach to literacy teaching at Port Fairy Consolidated. I am certain that we will be recognised as innovative leaders of best literacy practice within the State of Victoria. Already I can identify significant improvements in student outcomes and I thank my staff for their outstanding efforts to im- prove their skills and deliver best practice! At Port Fairy Consolidated School, I am very fortunate to have led a dedicated and highly skilled team of teachers who are constantly striving to improve the educational outcomes for all of our students. I am sorry that perhaps sometimes they do not get the recognition they all deserve, for often it is only the Principal of a school who can clearly see the massive ef- forts that everyone puts in every day! Thank you also to my wonderful Business Manager and our other Educational Support workers. In conclusion, I would like to acknowledge the School Council, our Parents Fundraising Group, our other volunteers and of course, all of the students for their outstanding contribu- tions to the successful operation of our school. Many in our school community continue to work above and beyond their roles. I believe Port Fairy Consolidated School consistently does ‘Punch above its weight’. We have much to be proud of and to celebrate! My time here has been very satisfying and I hope that I have made some positive difference to all that I have met along this ‘Principal Journey’. With much love and deep appreciation to you all! Remember my door was always open! Mark Chapman (Principal)

Welcome to this week’s newsletter. As it is my final newsletter, I thought I would let my report

take the form of a farewell letter.

Dear Students, Parents & Carers,

Much of my teaching career, of 34 years, has been spent at Port Fairy Consolidated School

and it is with much sadness that I have come to the end of my time at this wonderful place!.

Having been diag-nosed with a significant heart condition in September 2015, I have been on somewhat of a ‘bitter sweet’ journey since then. Already I can identify significant improvements in student outcomes and I thank my staff for their outstanding efforts to im-prove their skills and deliver best practice! At Port Fairy Consolidated School, I am very fortunate to have led a dedicated and highly skilled team of teachers who are constantly striving to improve the educational outcomes for all of our students. I am sorry that perhaps sometimes they do not get the recognition they all deserve, for often it is only the Principal of a school who can clearly see the massive ef-forts that everyone puts in every day! Thank you also to my wonderful Business Manager and our other Educational Support workers. In conclusion, I would like to acknowledge the School Council, our Parents Fundraising Group, our other volunteers and of course, all of the students for their outstanding contribu-tions to the successful operation of our school. Foundation/Grade 1/2’s

We all had a fantastic time at Milo’s surprise birthday party yesterday and were very excited to finally meet

Milo! In Reading this week we are learning about the features of non-fiction books. For phonics we are

revising sounds, open, closed and silent-e syllable words and digraphs (sh, ch). In Writing we have been

working on writing letters, replies and thank you messages. For Maths we are finishing off our work around

subtraction.

Grade 3/4’s

This week in 3/4 land we have been working hard on preparing for our poetry presentation. Yesterday we

presented our poems and recited some of our beloved Michael Rosen in front of each other. We were so

impressed at the dedication and encouragement from all students. It was lovely to celebrate all of our hard

work and enthusiasm with Jennifer Chambers. In Writing we have been continuing to develop our

procedural texts. In Maths we have been investigating shape and transformation. We hope everyone enjoys

the well earned break!

Grade 5/6’s

In our last week of this term the year 5/6’s have been reviewing their own performance and reflecting upon

their learning. In Maths we have consolidated our understanding of decimals and graphed data results.

Thank you to our ambassadors for helping out with the Coastal Beach monitoring on Tuesday and their

‘Peace Run’ involvement. It has been a very productive first half of the year and we are looking forward to

second semester. Thank you to all our parent helpers during second term, your assistance is very much

appreciated. Have a safe and restful term break.

A fantastic first semester in P.E. and sport has come to an end. We participated in many sports both inside

and outside of school, including; House Athletics Sports, Tennis, Golf, Swimming, Netball, Football, Soccer,

Cross Country and Athletics. There were some amazing efforts and some wonderful personal bests. Coming

up next term is Hoop time (Yr 3/4 - 4th August, Yr 5/6 - 18th August), Road Cycling Championships (Ballarat

13th September) and State Road Cycling Championships (Bendigo 22nd October). Those children keen to

participate at the cycling can log onto the Cycling Victoria website at, [email protected] and get the

race details and also enter online. The school will reimburse half the fee when entrants provide the office

staff with a copy of their entry receipt. If your child doesn't have a road bike I can assist with a suitable loan

bike for the day. I hope everyone has a fun and active holiday break, see you all in Term 3!

IT IS NOT OKAY TO BE AWAY

It is a legal requirement that children of good health attend school

everyday! If your child is absent from school at any time please let us

know so that we have a record of the absence. The school strongly

advocates full attendance and being on time. ‘Teaching Time starts

at 9!’

BUT….

Please be mindful that at this time of year it is very easy for the common cold to get

passed around. If your child is feeling unwell, or you suspect there is a chance they may

be infectious, please keep them home so not to spread germs.
