RANDOM THOUGHTS AND SILLY QUESTIONS - First, let me start off by saying that, yes, I did find my keys, referring to last week’s article. Thanks for the concern of all who asked!

Over the last few weeks, and trying to tem-porarily escape the silliness of the world, I’ve found myself entertaining thoughts of really

stupid stuff. To wit, the time my good friend Garry asked to borrow a live trap, as he had a raccoon that had been prowling around his house and severely attacking his trash bin on a weekly basis. He said he could set his watch by the happenings in his front yard since ev-ery Wednesday morning he had to go out and pick up about half of what his trash container held the night before. I told him to just put the bin out early on Wednesday before the trash man arrived. Genius, right? He went on to explain that this had been going on for some time and wanted to put a permanent stop to it. He was going to trap the animal, drive it about 15 miles away, and release it into the country.

About a week later, he drove to our house to return the live trap, at which point I met him in the driveway. He pulled the trap from the back of his truck and to my surprise, it was spray painted neon orange, you know, the color of vests the highway workers wear while they are dodging vehicles while per-forming their dangerous jobs. He later told me the look on my face was priceless.

Garry went on to tell me that he did drive the raccoon out the country to release it, but was afraid it might get hit by a car, so he spray-painted the animal in order for it to glow in the headlights of an oncoming vehi-

cle. See, it’s random thoughts like that which tend to make you forget life for a few min-utes. Funny, huh?

As far as the silly questions go (thanks Tab for mentioning it!), and with regards to the warnings on the drug commercials (remem-ber that column?), how do you now wheth-er or not you are allergic, all the while being warned during the commercial NOT to take it if you are, to this “breakthrough” drug if you you’ve never taken it? One wonders.

Other silly questions: Who cuts the barber’s hair? Pause. Who pastor’s the pastor during their time of need? Pause. Who cracks the chiropractor’s back? Pause. I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea. See, it’s the really birdbrained, half-baked, no one in their right mind kind of questions that one would not dare to ask of another human be-ing. Dopey? Yes. Simpleminded? Of course, but it gets me through the day.

One final silly question to ponder: If pro is the opposite of con, what is the opposite of progress?
