A range of solutions on show from SepuraTailored solutions for the GermanBOS-net are on show on Sepura’sstand G401. A little over twoyears ago Sepura established Se-pura Deutschland GmbH, a subsi-diary based in Garching nearMunich, to offer direct support tocustomers and in-country partnerSelectric.

All Sepura radios support theBOS-specified E2E encryption se-

curity system. A new BOS smartcard holder has been developedfor use with Sepura’s mobile and gateway products. A newHandset Based Console (HBC),combining the functionality ofthe traditional radio console and tele phone handset, allows flexible vehicle installations.

Safety assistance for users isnow available through Sepura’s

automatic Man-down repor-ting option. This multi-di-mensional motion sensingtechnology automaticallyreacts to changes in the ori-entation of a radio causedby non typical movementbehaviour of its user, resul-ting in the transmission oflocal and remote emer-gency alerts.

Sepura’s STP8000 hand-portable combines PMR andcellular features, and opera-tes in physically challengingconditions. Rugged and du-

rable, the range of features inclu-des a robust rugged accessoryconnector that connects under-neath protective clothing, via aremote speaker microphone. TheSTP8100 hand-portable is a vari-ant of the STP8000, and includesthe Man-down reporting option.

Sepura’s product portfolio alsoincludes its SRG3500 vehicle ra-dios with gateway functionality, acting as a relay point for bothhand-held and other vehicle radios, extending the trunkednetwork into areas of limited coverage. The STP8000 Hand-portable

Interconnecting TETRA systemsBy Jeppe Jepsen, Director International BusinessRela tions,Motorola

In April 2009, the first interope-rability certificates between twoindependent TETRA manufactu-rers were issued and it seemsthat, at last, the opportunity ofInter-System Interface (ISI) canbe realised. ISI, the ability for disparate TETRA systems to be interconnected to meet specificrequirements such as cross-bor-der communications, is one ofthe few promises of TETRA thathas yet to be truly delivered. There have been many reasonsbehind ISI’s failure to materia-lise; complexity, lack of a com-mon technology baseline andcompetition in the industry, haveall played a part.

The TETRA ISI represents a setof basic services necessary tosupport cross-border communica-tions between independentlyowned and operated TETRA net-works, each with completely in-dependent number structure andsecurity environments. Govern-

ment users who needed ISI wan-ted to see and feel the product in advance but there was no jus-tification for the large R&D in-vestment necessary to provideeven a basic set of services bet-ween the complex and markedlydifferent infrastructures providedby different manufacturers.

However, in response to custo-mer needs, Motorola and oneother key TETRA supplier have returned to ISI implementation

activities based on plans for anext phase Three-Country Pilot(3CP) field trials between theNetherlands, Belgium and Ger-many. Commitment is requiredfrom enough customers to war-rant the investment from indus-try; infrastructure and terminalsuppliers alike and Motorola, ha-ving gone through the ISI certi -fication process using initialfunctionality developments, re-cognises this is a technical mile-

Motorola has been celebratingits one million TETRA terminalmilestone, and is showing its capabilities on Stand D301. Pro-ducts being launched and show-cased at the Congress include the Dimetra IPMicro TETRAswitch and theCEP400 TETRAportable ter -minal, both designed todeliver cost-effective andeasy-to-deploysolutions to commer-cial and enterprise users.

Motorola’s Dimetra IP Microsupports features including inte-grated voice and data servicesand full duplex IP telephony calls – important to commercial

and enterprise users inindustries such as construction, manufactur ing ,mining, transportand logistics andthe hospitalitysector. The Dime-tra IP Micro alsoprovides an inter-face to conventio-

Fast track to TETRA in KrakowKrakow in Poland is benefitingfrom faster tram service follo-wing the completion of a newunderground tunnel. The tunnelis covered by a TETRA radio signalfor tram drivers and conventionalVHF radio signal for fire brigades.

The system uses radiating cables, one site for each of the threetunnel sections. Above ground,TETRA and MPT1327-standardtrunking signals are transmittedover the city area because busesand old trams, which are not

allowed to drive into the newtunnel, are still using MPT1327radios.

To provide integrated radioconnectivity using all the abovestandards, a TetraNode systemfrom Rohill is used. This also pro-

vides the potential for allcity services to graduallymigrate to TETRA. The net-work has a twin star topo-logy with two equivalentnodes – soft switches withgeographic isolation. Eachswitch can control thewhole network. This net-work is connected withthe tunnel emergency telephone system and mo-nitored by SCADA whichsupervises all the tunnelsubsystems. Line dispat-cher stations are locatedinside and outside of thetunnel. The TetraNode sys-tem was implemented byAKSEL, the Polish distribu-tor for Rohill products.

Space age TETRA from EADSEADS has announced the comple-tion of the new TETRA-basedcommunications network, se-lected by ROSKOSMOS, the Fede-ral Space Agency of Russia, torefurbish the trunking network atBaikonur Cosmodrome in Ka-zakhstan.

Construction and implementa-tion was undertaken by LEO Tele-com. The system provides 100per cent of radio communicationcoverage for the Cosmodrome, for the neighbouring air fieldsand for the town of Baikonur, serving over 1,000 subscribers bymobile radio communication.

"The Baikonur Cosmodrome iscurrently migrating from theanalogue to the TETRA systemand will soon have the benefit ofan AVL system covering the en-tire territory of the site. This hasthe double benefit of facilitatingadditional services for the clientand being of great value to thepersonnel," said Dirk Borchardt,

CEO of Security & CommunicationSolutions.

Founded in 1955, the world-famous Baikonur Cosmodrome isat the leading edge of space ex-ploration. It has seen such mile-stones as the first artificialsatellite in space and the firstman in space. Covering an areaof 6,717 km² near the Kazakhtown of Tyuratam, it currentlyhas over ten launch pads.

From pre-project assessment,to system design and frequencyplanning, to supply, installationand commissioning, this was aturnkey project that also inclu-ded personnel training. EADS:Stand G301

BMW’s manufacturing plant inDingolfing, Germany, is BMW’slargest production site, buildingthe BMW 5, 6 and 7 Series. BMWwanted their variety of analogueradio systems replaced by a singledigital communication system forall users. BMW also needed toreplace and improve the auto-matic fault notification system inthe plant’s production line togain more efficiency.

Sepura has provided anentirely automatic faultnotification solution whichunifies Voice and Data andimproves efficiency withinthe manufacturing plant. The solution is part of acomplete digital mobile com -mu ni cation system delivered by Siemens and operates on aTETRA network supplied byRohde & Schwarz. The digitalcommunications system covers

the whole area ofthe manufactu-ring plant, inclu-ding all the officebuildings and allthe connectingroads.

Sepura provi-ded an SDA(Short Data Application) whichsimplifies the reading and accep-

tance of maintenancejobs by reducing to a minimum the number ofinteractions needed to ac-cept or reject a work re-quest. All messages withinthe system are generatedautomatically with a single

selection of a field within theSDA message. The SDA workswith a server but, in the eventof server failure, the backup sys-tem is able to seamlessly deli-ver the messages.
