Don’t Wait, Start Now!!If you will be registering your children for a Sacramental Class this upcoming year NOW is the time to get those baptismals ready. If your child was baptized here at San Jose you may request a copy from our main church office for just $5.00. If your child was baptized at another parish or in another country you need to contact the parish in which they were baptized for a copy. We will not be registering anyone for a Sacramental Class without a copy of his or her baptismal. Also if your child will be entering their 2nd year for Confirmation we will need a copy of their 1st Communion Certificate. Servus Dei is a three-day immersion service retreat in which middle school students (6-8th grade) learn about Catholic social justice teaching, then put it into practice through various service opportunities. The retreat is set for June 21-23, 2012.

Service opportunities are followed by reflection and students are challenged to make service a part of their daily lives. The retreat will take place at St. Austin Parish in Austin and the service projects will be held at various locations in Austin.

Ephebiphobia is the irrational fear of teenagers. Yes, this is an actual phobia that many suffer from; however, as with most fears the best cure is to face them head on! San Jose Youth Ministry would like to give you that chance! We are looking for a few good men and women to join the SIT’M (Saints In The Making) Leadership Team for next year’s Religious Education School Year.

Due to summer planning sessions we wish to hear from you now! What is involved you might ask? Time commitment is as follows….Sundays (9-12th grade), 5-6:30PM, Mondays (6-8th grade), 6:45-8PM, or Wednesdays (Confirmation) 7-8:30PM. August through the first week of May (with holidays off of course), plus planning meetings and retreats. You would be asked to share your Catholic Faith with the youth of our parish in some but not necessarily all of the following ways: Teach a lesson, share your story, facilitate a small group, be a support team member, traffic control, etc…. your own personal gifts will be considered when placing you in particular areas of service and YES EVERYONE HAS GIFTS!

I promise you will get way more out of this ministry than you give! Especially in today’s world our young people desperately need adults who care about them and their future as Catholic Christians. All materials and training will be provided! Please prayerfully consider joining us! This is a great chance to meet new friends, see how God fits in with everyday life, learn how service can make a difference in the world, eat some mighty fine chow and, above all, have a fantastic time with other Catholic teens from around the Diocese! There will be presentations, prayer, service projects, worship, and tons of social activities—in other words, a whole lot of fun!

A typical day includes a wake-up call, breakfast, and several sessions/activities. After lunch, there is time for recreation, followed by more sessions, and activities. Dinner is followed by some events and time for socialization. Not to worry, there will be plenty of time for sleep, too!
