Wheaten Whispers September 2012 2

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Hi All, I expect many Wheatens spent much of their summer lying over the register with the cold air from the air-conditioning cooling off their tummies. At my house there was a competition to see who got to the vent first. Hopefully we are moving into fall with cooler weather and more rain. Have you noticed that the girls don’t like to squat and pee when the grass is dried out and prickly? There is a pot-luck meeting at my house, 51 Roundhay Drive, Nepean, on September 30, 2012 at 5pm to discuss plans for “For The Love of Wheatens” as well as how we can make our Wheaten Walks more appealing to the membership. Come and enjoy the food and fun and help us with our future plans. “For The Love of Wheatens” is to held on October 21 at 2pm again at 51 Roundhay Dr. We have planned to focus on grooming but if you have other concerns as well, send them to Margaret at [email protected] or 613-737-4567 and we will arrange to have someone present to help you out. Don’t forget to mark December 9th on your calendar for the Christmas Party. See You Soon, Robbie, Ashley, Kellie and Priscilla

EDITOR’S CRATE

Hi Everyone! We’ve had a lot of exciting events so far this year; Wheaten Walks every month, the St.Patrick’s day party and the SCWT National Specialty! The fun’s not over yet as we’ve got many more activi-ties ahead! All the upcoming events are highlighted in this issue. We are looking forward to seeing you at the upcoming Wheaten Walks scheduled for the fall. The crisp fall breeze and the lovely autumn landscape filled with colourful leaves is the perfect setting to take a break from the busy stresses of everyday life for an hour or so. Plus, your Wheaten (s) will without a doubt appreciate getting the opportunity to socialize with their fellow Wheaten buddies! So don’t miss the next walk!

I hope you enjoy this issue of Whispers. I have included many pictures of past events which have been great fun for those who could attend. I’m looking forward in seeing you at the upcoming 2012-2013 Wheaten activities! :) Basia

I would like to say that Basia Falicki has put together this issue and the last issue of Wheaten Whispers. She has done a tremendous job. She has offered a new and lively twist to the newsletters and I would like to personally thank her for this. From personal experience the newsletter is always challenging to produce -- trying to find ar-ticles that will be interesting to the members; researching; photos, etc. Basia stepped in at a time when I was very busy with a number of things in my life and she has risen to the chal-lenge. I am hoping that she will continue the good work and that the members will support her by digging into their memories and providing information and stories for everyone to enjoy. We all need to do our part! Thanks again,

Wheaten Walks We would like to thank all those who have been able to attend our monthly scheduled Wheaten Walks. It is always great fun to see many Wheatens in one place as this is not something you get to see everyday!

Here are some photos of past walks from this year and from the fall of 2011.

A young girl hiding in the flowers. This picture was part of a Quilt for rescue

in USA in 2000. Why walk when you can run!

Bailey finally decided to give swimming a try at 11 years of age!

In younger times, these two teenagers enjoyed terrorizing the dog park and they loved every minute of it!

In Loving Memory of Bailey We are saddened to inform you of the passing of a dear 4 legged member of our club. I am sure many of you remember Bailey who was owned by Monique and Ray Brady. Together they attended many (if not all!) Wheaten Walks and other annual activities.

As a wild teenager, Bailey and her friend Maddy (another wheaten) would run through the Brampton dog park, rounding up the other dogs, stalking and pouncing on each other without a care in the world.

Some dog owners were upset but the girls were having the time of their lives. They were there bright and early, rain or shine, summer and winter.

Later she had as much fun leading a bunch of new friends through her monthly walks at Bruce Pit. She was a determined, at times stubborn, girl but always a best friend and protector.

She will be dearly missed.

2012 SCWTAC National Specialty This year’s Specialty was held in Arnprior. Nothing beats a day filled with exceptionally clean Wheatens! Wheatens are naturally born “show off’s”, so to speak. That said, everyone had a great time whether they placed or not. The executive has been hard at work organizing everything for this specialty show. The day went as planned and was a success! We would really like to thank Isabelle and Gordon Bouchard-Finck for helping us sell raffle tickets during the show! Here are some photos from the specialty:

Final touch ups were being made “backstage”. No hair shall be out of place for this big show!

Your executive in “pink” busy setting up for the specialty.

Handsome dog!

The best in show winner! A Wheaten strutting his stuff!

Navi was the only altered dog entered in the specialty.

Navi eagerly awaiting for her turn in the ring!

Even 3 month old puppies were being shown!

The “Dog of Steel” was the valuable raffle item.

Time to draw out a winner from the raffle!

The banquet and silent auction were held in this hall after the show.

“And now I’m a Vampire!”

“Rawwr!” “You want me to play dead?”

Playing Dead Here is Navi’s view on “playing dead”. It’s a great way to scare kids off on Halloween!!!

A WHEATEN’S POINT OF VIEW (Note from the Editor: In the spirit of fairness, we have decided to give our sWheaties the opportunity to pro-vide us with their perspective on life. The views expressed in this article in no way represent the views of the Editor or any other member of the EOSCWTC Executives.) My name is Tilly and I am writing on behalf of all my four-legged furry friends. As most of you know, our local Club hosted the 2012 National Specialty this past May, which turned out to be a ma-jor success. This is where our sWheaties are required to parade while embarrassingly being patted down by a total stranger called a “judge” who must have been trained as an airport security guard. Our ears are checked, then our teeth, our fur, our legs and even our ’private parts’ without any re-gard for your dignity. All this for the amusement of those two legged creatures we affectionately call our Masters. But to add insult to injury, when it was time to celebrate the big event, us sWheaties were excluded from attending the Ball (or as our Masters like to call it - the “Banquet”). We do all the work, win the prizes and then get to stay home while our Masters get to go out and have a great time - AT OUR EXPENSE! Where is the justice in this? Don’t we count for anything? We are clearly the Cinderellas of the four-legged world. There was only one way to deal with such injustice. While my Masters were out enjoying the Ball – dancing the night away – I got into the loot for the Specialty. I found this scrump-tious cheque so generously donated by one of the members and ate half of it, leaving the other half for my Masters to find. This was my way of saying, on behalf of all sWheaties: “WE ARE MAD AND WE WON’T TAKE IT ANYMORE!”
