Facebook Timeline for Pages is Here!

After much anticipation Facebook announced last week that Timeline would be available to all Pages on Facebook. Brands and businesses will be switched over to the new layout on March 30, 2012.
The overall appearance of the Page has changed and the default landing tab (splash/squeeze page). Here is an overview of some of the changes:

Cover Photo/Profile Photo
The photo strip and elongated profile photos are gone, replaced by the large screen spanning cover photo at the top of the Page.
The profile photo is back to its original size (roughly) and is a small square photo.
The Cover Photo is the valuable real estate on the Page now, providing a large area to showcase your business, provide an explanation of what you do, or just be creative with your talents. There are rules involved in the cover photo – see Facebook Cover Photo Guidelines for more information.

Default Tabs – Gone!

Welcome MatThere is no default landing tab anymore. Where you once would direct all new visitors to your Facebook Page to a Welcome Tab, inviting them to like the Page.
The only Page visitors can be directed to is your main Page (the exception to this rule is with Facebook Ads, you can link Ads to a default Tab of your choice).
There is also a new option to do a “Welcome Mat”, a jpeg Welcome you can “pin” to the top of your Timeline so that when new Users visit your Page they will see the Welcome Mat with your welcome message.

App Links
The App links to your custom tabs, photos, events, etc. used to be located on the left side of the screen under the Profile Photo. These links were small and often missed.
The new App links are located at the top right of the Page under the Cover Photo and much more prominent. The icons are customizable with your own photos.
The App links appear much like navigation tabs on a website now and you can use the buttons to really showcase certain Apps or your own Custom Tabs with message.
Tell Your Story
Activity and posts are now sorted by year, dating back as far as you want to go. You can go back in the Timeline and add significant company events.
Add the year your business was founded as well as any other significant events – such as certifications, awards, etc., post with photos or newspaper clippings, etc. This adds to the value of the Timeline and tells the story of your business.
