ARAMBURO, CRISTINA V. (GRP-5)N3-A (8-12-15)Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is a condition that occurs when the venous wall and/or valves in the leg veins are not working effectively, making it difficult for blood to return to the heart from the legs. CVIcauses blood to ool! or collect in these veins, and this ooling is called stasis. Veins return blood to the heart from all the body"s organs. #o reach the heart, the blood needs to flow uward from the veins in the legs. Calf muscles and the muscles in the feet need to contract with each ste to s$uee%e the veins and ush the blood uward. #o kee the blood flowing u, and not back down, the veins contain one&way valves.Chronic venous insufficiency occurs when these valves become damaged, allowing the blood to leak backward. Valve damage may occur as the result of aging, e'tended sitting or standing or a combination of aging and reduced mobility. (hen the veins and valves are weakened to the oint where it is difficult for the blood to flow u to the heart, blood ressure in the veins stays elevated for long eriods of time, leading to CVI.CVI most commonly occurs as the result of a blood clot in the dee veins of the legs, a disease known as dee vein thrombosis ()V#). CVI also results from elvic tumors and vascular malformations, and sometimes occurs for unknown reasons. *ailure of the valves in leg veins to hold blood against gravity leads to sluggish movement of blood out of the veins, resulting in swollen legs.+atients +rofile,+-#I./#"0 /-1., 2.13./).4, *-3., 551-4I#-6 0#-#70, 0ingle 4.6I3I8/, 4oman Catholic8CC7+-#I8/, 1aidChief Comlaint, /on healing wound for 9 mos.+ast :ealth :istory -ccording to atient 2.1 that she have a comlete immuni%ation before. )uring her ;
