Submersible clean-water pumps are suit-able for pumping down or transferring pure or moderately contaminated liquids. Typical ap-plications include the discharge of household waste water, rain or seepage water as well as the evacuation of basins. One of the very particular features of submersible clean-water pumps is their shallow-suction capability which leaves surfaces ready to be wiped off.A pressure as low as 0.5 bar will be sufficient for the operation of a garden shower.

The float switch fulfils two important functions: On the one side, it will cut the pump in or out as a function of the water level, thus enabling the pump to be operated automatically. On the other, it protects the pump from damage caused by overheating resulting from operati-on in the absence of water, since it will cause the pump to cut out as soon as a specific fluid level is fallen short of.

Submersible drainage pumps are especially designed for use in narrow drainage shafts -owing to their compact design, the vertical pump outlet and the suspension cable. Thistype of pump is equipped with an integrat-ed float switch which gives you the choice between automatic or manual operation.

Shallow-suction units enable drainage down to surfaces ready for being wiped off since evacuation is possible down to a particularly low water level of just a few millimetres. The technical details of the pumps always specify the minimum evacuation level. This value indi-cates the lowest water level possible down to which liquids can be pumped off.

Submersible dirty-water pumps were deve-loped for draining or transferring heavily con-taminated liquids. These units will take in and convey leaves and other plant residues, coarse particles and fibrous matters without any pro-blems. Therefore, they are optimally suited for draining garden ponds, pools, construction-sites and dirty-water pits.

The great variety of applications of submersi-ble dirty-water pumps is reflected in a carefully balanced range of products. This means, for instance, that the TVX series includes conven-tional designs for all common applications. In addition thereto, the DTX series is suitable for continuous operation. The top-quality Maxima series was developed for areas of use requi-ring extraordinarily strong, durable material.

With regard to emergency drainage of flooded premises, submersible dirty-water pumps are indispensable for rapid pumping off to minimise water damage. In these cases, the water mostly contains coarse particles. The max. grain size re-ferred to in the technical data specifies the max. diameter of the contaminating elements which the liquid being discharged is allowed to contain.

With its particularly high-quality technology, the EXTREMA 300/10 is an absolute top-class pump. The housing which is completely made of high-grade steel, the water-cooled motor and the high-precision ball bearings allow a performance level complying with very high standards. As a particular feature, it is possible to pump somewhat hot liquids up to 50 °C - temporarily even up to 95 °C.

Submersible dirty-water pumps are used to carry water which contains contaminants of various sizes. However, floating particles, sludge, sand, leaves, other plant residues and similar particles may interfere with the pump‘s proper operation or even stop it.

The VORTEX free-flow wheel efficiently pre-vents clogging of the pump since it swirls and shreds the contaminants to make them pass freely through the hydraulic system. This tech-nology has proven in practice for years in the evacuation of ponds and construction pits, but also for emergency drainage when every-thing has to be done very fast, although larger particles may be contained in the water and the pumps have to work at a maximum degree of efficiency and reliability.

Submersible pressure pumps are very power-ful pumps of a specific design, meant to draw water from very deep down. The fluid lifted in this way can be transported further under a high pressure and thus be used e.g. for an irrigation system or for domestic purposes. In addition, these pumps are perfectly suited for direct irrigation out of wells, cisterns and reser-voirs.

The DIO 45/13 rain-water pump is the unit of choice when it comes to conveniently filling watering cans or operating connected wate-ring shower heads with water taken from rain barrels or similar containers. A special clamp ensures the firm grip at the container edge, with three riser-pipe elements enabling the submersion depth to be adjusted. The float switch provides an efficient protection from dry-running.

The Brio 2000-M control system enables the operation of submersible pressure pumps to be automated. In this way it is possible to use pumps for automatic water supply. This means that the liquids being discharged can be used as if tapped from the water mains. And all this with a useful side effect: The control system will also protect the pumps from damage causes by dry-running since they will stop operation in the absence of water.

The PPG 225 diaphragm pump is a submersi-ble pressure pump which was developed espe-cially for use in narrow shafts. With its vertical pump outlet and the enclosed lowering rope this particularly compact and efficient pump is suitable for use in openings down to a diame-ter of 11 cm. The reliable motor with a nominal performance of 225 W insures a delightfully low energy consumption.

Deep-well pumps are specifically develo-ped and most efficient submersible pressure pumps for use in particularly narrow shafts and in wells, cisterns and similar cavities. To facilitate the discharge of water from very deep down, the standard scope of delivery includes a long connection cable and a special rope for lowering and positioning the pumps.

All deep-well pumps from T.I.P. are capable of building up a pressure of 1.5 bar which is the minimum pressure required for automati-on. When installing the optional Brio 2000-M electronic controlling system which is needed for automation, the water being discharged can be used just as conveniently as if it was taken from the water mains, and moreover this feature provides an additional protection from damage caused by operation in the absence of water.

Deep-well pumps excel by their outstanding technical properties, the use of top-class ma-terials and a very high performance. Owing to their particular design, they can be used in very narrow borehole wells with diameters down to 10 cm. Their most reliable operation is guaranteed by a multistage hydraulic system and an integrated check (or non-return) valve.

The multistage hydraulic system of the deep-well pumps of the AJ 4 Plus series is equip-ped with floating impellers which have proven to be particularly resistant to the corrosive ef-fect of sand up to a contents of 50 g/m³. The compressed-ceramics ring in the diffuser and the graphite ring ensure a high durability in the case of operation in the absence of water.

Garden pumps

Garden pumps are self-priming units. This me-ans that it is recommendable, yet not absolutely necessary, to fill the suction hose with water prior to the first use of the unit, since the pump will take in liquid independently. In this process, however, the pump housing must be complete-ly filled, i.e. vented. This means that the proce-dure has to be repeated so many times until the suction hose, too, is fully vented.

The use of garden pumps enables the water being withdrawn to be conveyed on under high pressure. This means that these units are very well suitable for operating watering systems - most of the units can even be used with mul-tiple sprinklers. Moreover, the typical areas of use of garden pumps include other pressure-intensive purposes, such as the efficient flushing of terraces or boardwalks.

A suction hose of 4 metres length with check valve comes with some of our garden pumps as a convenient element of the standard scope of delivery. In addition, we offer you suction hoses of various lengths and quality grades - from solid plastic types up to professional suc-tion fitting sets in high-quality design with a very high operating-pressure rating. Installation and maintenance

Installation of submersible pressure pumps and deep-well pumps

MaintenanceCapacity of pumps under various conditions

When selecting a suitable pump, the desired flow rate and the required suction height - i.e. the height difference between the water surface and the point of the water withdrawal - count among the major criteria. Therefore, the information pro-vided for all pumps includes the maximum flow rate and the maximum suction height. When plan-ning an installation or selecting a pump, please consider that the flow rate will drop with the in-crease of the suction height. Diagrams given with the pumps are intended to illustrate this relation-ship, and they also provide the applicable values for different conditions. Similar considerations apply to the max. achievable pressure which will also decrease with an increase of the suction height.

Garden pumps, booster sets and automatic booster sets from T.I.P. are self-priming units. This means that it is not strictly necessary to fill the suction line, since the pump will take in liquid independently. However, it has to be ensured that the pump housing is completely filled, i.e. fully vented. Depending on the suc-tion height of the water, this process may have to be repeated several times until the suction line, too, is fully vented. This means that filling the suction line may nevertheless be recom-mendable. In any case, the inlet of the suction line has to be equipped with a check valve with an intake filter to prevent the water from escaping and coarse particles from being su-cked in. Once the line and pump vented, the system will work as desired. During operation, any inadvertent venting of the system through leaks or the like must be excluded under all circumstances. This means that all threaded and other connections on both the suction and the pressure side have to be absolutely tight. Perfect tightening results can be obtained by using Teflon tape, hemp or a similar material.

To lower submersible pressure pumps and deep-well pumps down into cisterns, wells etc., one should always use the lowering rope coming with the unit or another suitable cable made of stainless steel or nylon. The lowering rope, the connection cable and the pressure line should be tied together at intervals of ap-prox. 2 m using an appropriate adhesive tape or cable ties to make sure that they will not get entangled when lowering or raising the pump.

Regular maintenance and thorough care will reduce the risk of operational disturbances and extend the lifetime of pumps. Where ne-cessary, it is recommendable for submersible pumps to clean the hydraulic parts by way of counter-flushing the unit with clear water through the pressure port. To facilitate the re-moval of stubborn dirt, the pump foot can be dismantled. In the case of booster sets, a re-gular check of the pressure being generated and the energy being consumed makes sense. Also, the pre-charge pressure (atmospheric pressure) in the pressure tank, which must not fall below 1.5 bar, should be checked regularly through the tank valve. The intake filter of the deep-well pumps of the AJ 4 Plus series, which can be unscrewed from the unit for this purpo-se, should be cleaned on a regular basis. In frosty conditions, submersible pumps have to be removed from the water, and in this case basically all pumps including their pipe system should be drained.

The pump has to be located at least 50 cm abo-ve the ground to prevent bottom particles from being sucked in, since they may block or even damage the unit. Please observe the max. wa-ter immersion depth which is indicated in the technical data of the pump. During operation, the intake port must always remain immersed in the water, since otherwise damage caused by overheating may occur. With regard to po-sitioning the pump this means that you should take into account fluctuations of the water level

during operation, for instance as a result of the withdrawal of liquid or seasonal changes. Some units - such as the entire AJ 4 Plus se-ries - come with a standard check valve.

Automated operation of pumps

Automation is possible with all submersible pressure pumps, garden pumps and deep-well pumps from T.I.P. By installing an electronic or mechanical control system you can use the discharged fluid the same way as if you took it from the water mains: By simply opening or closing water taps. Apart from that, electronic control systems will protect your pump from damage caused by dry-running since these systems will cut out automatically in the ab-sence of water.

The automated operation of a pump offers nu-merous benefits. For instance, it is possible to use water taken from wells or rainwater col-lected in cisterns for domestic water provision, e.g. for the operation of washing machines, showers or toilet flushing systems. Owing to its high efficiency and reliability, an automated pump will also convince when used for water-ing or the operation of sprinklers.

Electronic control systems will provide a pump control as a function of pressure and water flow rate. The Brio 2000-M control system will switch the pump on either when the tap is opened or as soon as pressure has dropped to a specific minimum value. When water tapping stops, the pump will switch off. The ON pres-sure can be set individually.

Mechanical control systems will control the pump on the basis of an interaction between a pressure tank and the ON and OFF pressure. They will switch the pump on by enabling the current to flow. When the water-consuming ap-pliance is switched off or the tap is shut, thecurrent supply will be cut out, and the pump will switch off. The ON and OFF pressure can be set by a mechanic.

Automation:Veryeasyinstallation-highefficiency

In order to be actually used for automation, a pump has to be able to build up a mini-mum pressure of 1.5 bar. This basic condi-tion is met by all garden, submersible pres-sure, cistern and deep-well pumps from T.I.P. Installation requires only a minimum of action. The control system, for instance, can be mounted directly onto the pump. As an alternative, a hose can be fitted between the pump and the control system. Another possibility of automation consists in fitting the pump with a pressure tank, an armoured hose and a pressure switch. Optionally, the pump and the pressure tank can be fitted directly to each other or connected by a hose.

The Brio 2000-M electronic control system excels by its extremely high reliability and functional safety. Easily and instantly installed, the Brio 2000-M allows the automation of any kind of pressure pump capable of genera-ting a minimum of 1.5 bar. Unlike the cut-out pressure, the cut-in pressure is adjustable, since after closing the water tap cutting out will occur automatically as a function of perfor-mance. The Brio 2000-M is equipped with a pressure gauge for accurate pressure control. Domestic water supply counts among the key applications of booster sets. In an increasing number of households, people rather use rain, grey or groundwater for many applications in-stead of expensive and valuable drinking wa-ter taken from the mains. This makes sense, for instance, for flushing toilets, operating washing machines or supplying showers - and of course for irrigation.

Almost all booster sets from T.I.P. are equip-ped with a mechanical control system. Upon reaching the cut-in or cut-out pressure, usually preset to 2 or 3 bar, respectively, the pump will cut in or cut out. Changing these preset values which are ideally suited for most installations must only be done by a qualified plumbing or electrical expert.

Automatic irrigation is one of typical ranges of applications for which booster sets are espe-cially suited. Normally, the expansion of the long flexible hoses which are commonly used is responsible for a pressure drop within the system. The size of the large tank of a boo-ster set compensates for this and prevents the pump from cutting in again.

Pressure boosting in a domestic water system may be necessary for various reasons. For in-stance in the top storeys the water frequently arrives with a poor pressure. In such cases the installation of a booster set to act as a pressu-re-increasing system is recommendable. The cut-in and the cut-out pressure can be set very specifically, so that the insufficient pressure provided in the domestic water system can be increased to highly accurate target values.

Anti dry-running feature andprefilter

An anti dry-running feature prevents the hy-draulic parts of pumps from possible overhe-ating occurring as a result of operating the pump in the absence of liquid. This so-called dry-running is frequently the reason of consi-derable damage to the unit. The anti dry-run-ning feature consistently suppresses this risk since it causes the pump to cut out in time.

Prefilters are recommended as accessories, in particular for self-priming pumps. They will extend the lifetime of the pump since they fil-ter out efficiently sand and solid matters from the fluid being conveyed. The high-quality fil-ter mesh made of highly impact-resistant pla-stic can be cleaned conveniently so that it can be used over and over again. Some booster sets come with an anti dry-running feature and/or a prefilter as a standard. Units without these features can be retrofitted without any problems. You will find the appropriate acces-sories on pages 32 and 33.

It takes just a few calculations to find out the suita-ble type of booster set for your requirements. First of all, use the opposite chart to determine your max. water consumption.Example: If you wish that your bath tub, dishwas-her and washing machine can be used at the same time, you simply add up the individual values and arrive at 33 l/min for the max. water consumption. Multiplied by 60, this leads to the water volume per hour: 792 l/h.The next thing to do is to calculate the total dischar-ge height. First of all, you need the actual dischar-ge height - i.e. the height difference between the water surface and the highest place of withdrawal, increased by 15% to allow for the calculation of friction losses. Subsequently, you consider the re-quired min. pressure which is defined by the con-sumer device with the highest operating pressu-re. The pressure, here indicated in terms of bar, is then to be multiplied by 10 to convert it to metres. Adding the two values will result in the arithmetical

total discharge height.Example: Your booster set is supposed to be able to withdraw water from a depth of 4 m and convey it to the highest withdrawal place in 6 m height (actual discharge height = 10 m). Increa-sed by 15%, you arrive at 11.15 m.The minimum pressure is supposed to be 2 bar. When converted, this corresponds to 20 m. When adding up these values (11.5 m plus 20 m) you will arrive at the total discharge height of 31.5 m.On the basis of the calculated max. water con-sumption and the mathematical total dischar-ge height, all you need to do is to refer to the discharge volume and discharge height charts for the specific booster set to see whether a spe-cific product will fit your requirements. For in-stance, you will see on page 21 that the HWW 3600 I (30 m / 1,250 l/h) will actually satisfy your needs, whereas the HWW 46/42 (30 m / 700 l/h) will not.

Installing a garden, deep-well or submersible pressure pump in combination with a pressure tank will produce an automated water supply system offering the functioning and benefits of a booster set: Pressure equalisation and reduced switching frequency. Besides the pressure tank, the basic equipment requires the following components: An electronic con-trol system or a pressure switch for automated operation, a pressure gauge for pressure mo-nitoring, a 3-way diverter for various connec-tions and an armoured hose for connecting the pressure tank. It is e.g. possible to install a hose of some length between the pump and the tank. In this way the pump can be installed in a cistern, and the water being discharged can then be conveyed into the house where the pressure tank is installed, may be together with a pre-filter. This example is a highly effici-ent system for domestic water supply.Together with the necessary accessories which you find from page 31 it is possible to achieve highly versatile and efficient solutions.

As is generally the case with booster sets, the pressure tank plays a major role for automated water supply. The larger the pressure tank, the less frequently will the pump have to cut in or cut out, respectively. The underlying principle is as simple as that: If you tap a small quantity of liquid, such as a glass of water, the water volume contained in the pressure tank will pre-vent the pump from cutting in. With the size of the tank, the volume of the liquid contained in it will also increase, which means that the pump will have to cut in less frequently. Considering

that each start of the pump requires electricalenergy, the reduction of the cut-in frequency will clearly reduce the energy consumption, thus saving costs. As another positive side ef-fect of the reduced number of cut-in operations the noise caused by the start and operation of the pump will be reduced.Booster sets from T.I.P. are equipped with pressure tanks of different sizes, ranging from 18 to 24 L volume. As a special unit, we offer the HWW 1300/50 Plus TLS which comes

with a particularly large 50 L pressure tank. In this way, the bandwidth ranges from compact, space-saving low-weight models up to particu-larly large units. These differences enable an on-site selection to be made on the basis of individual criteria and specific conditions.

The HWW 1300/50 Plus TLS booster set is the ideal device for users who attach great importance to a clearly reduced switching fre-quency. In particular in context with domestic water supply in grey water, this is an important criterion since the resulting decrease of the switching frequency will also reduce the noise level involved with the start and operation of the pump. This noise may be extremely distur-bing, in particular in times of silence or at night-time, and it may be considerably decreased by selecting a pump that is equipped with a large pressure tank.

The capacity of the pressure tank is of a very high signi-ficance with regard to the functioning and efficiency of a booster set.Compared to smaller designs, a larger tank will ensure an increased water supply. Petrol-engine pumps have proven to be the op-timum solution in places which are far from the electrical mains. The LTP series includes units of a very high quality equipped with robust, power-ful 4-stroke engines. The convenient equipment includes connection pieces for the pressure- and suction-side ports, an integrated non-return flap on the suction side and an oil-level protec-tion feature (Auto-Stop).

Starting on page 31, you will find high-quality ac-cessories for the LTP series - for instance, hoses with large dimensions which are also available by the metre. Professional installations can be reali-sed using joint bolt clips, connection pieces and brass foot valves.The reducing piece coming with the LTP 40 ser-ves to reduce the connection dimension from 47,80 mm (1 ½“ MT) to 41,91 mm (1 ¼“ MT).

For agricultural use, such as watering or irriga-tion, petrol-engine pumps with their very high flow rates have proven to be almost perfectly suited. The typical areas of use include em-ptying or filling of ponds and basins far away from any available electrical connection, or the water supply of construction-sites, allotment gardens, weekend homes or garden sheds.

During inundations, the electricity supply fre-quently collapses so that electrical pumps cannot be used for emergency drainage. Also, flooding leads to situations where the use of an electrically driven pump is not advisable for reason of the ha-zard of an electrical shock. In emergency cases like that, petrol-engine pumps with their large ca-pacity are the almost perfect solution.

Dirty air filters will obstruct the airflow to the carburettor. To avoid functional disturbances, this means that the air filter should be in-spected regularly and cleaned or replaced, if necessary. Generally, it is recommended to check the air filter for contamination prior to each use. The filter should be cleaned at the latest every three months or after 50 hours of operation. If the unit is used in a highly con-taminated or dusty environment, the cleaning intervals ought to be shortened appropriately.

The careful maintenance and care of petrol-engine pumps include the check of the oil level prior to each start of the unit. The units of the LTP series are equipped with an Auto-Stop feature. This convenient feature pro-tects the unit from damage caused by the absence of oil, since the motor cannot be started unless a sufficient quantity of motor oil is available. The oil should be changed at least once per year. In this context, obser-ving the local regulations regarding the dis-posal of waste oil is imperative.The cleaning of the spark plug and, where necessary, a correction of the electrode gap should be performed every six months or af-ter 100 hours of operation.
