Our team members
• Enzo (Group Leader)
• Ally (Resource Manager)
• Fabius (Reporter)
• Yan Wei (Recorder)
• Marsyha (Timekeeper)
• Clement (Encourager)
Our task
• Build a new enclosure for a popular bird
• Allow visitors to view the birds closely and interact with them safely
Current situation
• Now, we only see peacocks walking around in the bird park. They are not kept in cages.
• It would be best if visitors can touch more birds and feed them safely.
• It would be good if we can take photos with the birds for free.
• We cannot take photos with the birds because we have no money.
Why are we doing this project?
• To help Jurong Bird Park visitors have a better experience at the park
• To increase the number of bird park visitors
• To apply thinking skills learnt to solve problems
• To learn to work together

Facts about hummingbird
Characteristics
• Hummingbirds are small, colorful birds with iridescent feathers.
• Their name comes from the fact that they flap their wings so fast (about 80 times per second) that they make a humming noise.
• They can fly right, left, up, down, backwards, and even upside down.
• They have a long and tapered bill that is used to obtain nectar from the center of long, tubular flowers.
• Their feet are used for perching only, and are not used for hopping or walking.
Facts about hummingbirdDiet
• Hummingbirds eat flower nectar, tree sap, insects and pollen.
• They need to eat often due to their fast breathing rate, fast heartbeat and high body temperature.
• They also require an enormous amount of food each day.
• They have a long tongue which they use to lick their food at a rate of up to 13 licks per second.
Facts about hummingbird
Behaviour
• Hummingbirds communicate via visual displays.
• Can be territorial so not advisable to put other birds in the same enclosure.
• Gestation: 13-22 days
• Clutch size: Between 1-3 eggs
• The young start to fly in 18 to 30 days.
Facts about hummingbirdHabitat
• Hummingbirds’ habitat needs a lot of flowers.
• Shelter is important for hummingbird especially for nesting and night-time resting.
• Do not use pesticide in the habitat as it might poison the hummingbirds.

How we benefitted from our project?
School Vision
Critical ThinkersWe learnt to think through and plan our projects
using the thinking skills
Motivated Learners
We are happy to have an opportunity to design
an new enclosure for the bird.
We felt proud to be able to present our project.
Leaders Of Character
We learnt to work well as a group.
We must be sensitive towards others and listen
to everyone’s idea.
Moving forward
• We could display our project at the WHIZZ room for future P2 pupils to learn from us.
• We could also share our experiences at school events.
• We could encourage other pupils to be creative and that everyone is good at something and teamwork meant respecting one another too.
Our Reflections
• Enzo: I learnt to create a good PowerPoint presentation.
• Ally: I learnt to build an enclosure.
• Fabius: I learnt that we need to be good in English to be a reporter.
• Yan Wei: I learnt how to fold origami hummingbirds.
• Marsyha: I learnt to build things using simple materials.
• Clement: I learnt that we need to type many words for the PowerPoint.
Acknowledgements
• We would like to thank our teachers for guiding us and for providing us with the resources.
