Kitchen Clean-up Update “Further to the notice in last weeks pew sheet - as I will be away on and off till the end of April the Kitchen clean- up wont be happening until May. It would be good if groups who use the hall kitchen regularly could nominate someone to be involved .This will then ensure that anything precious to your group is not inadvertently disposed of,”
Many thanks, Lynda Pryor

Opening Prayer
Sunday 5 March 2017 - Lent 1
Service: 9:00am at Saint Georges - NZ Eucharist Theme: And So It Begins Sentence: When you call to me, says the Lord, I will answer you; I will be with you
in trouble, I will rescue you and honour you. See Psalm 91 v 15,16.
Loving God, today we begin our Lenten adventure, a time of anticipation and wonder, yet always overshadowed by the reality of the cross. We come to this season hoping that we might hear again in the stories of scripture truths about your love for your people, and find ourselves renewed in faith. Amen.

Come into the wilderness. Come to this place away from the world. We come to find ourselves ever more in the presence of God.
Come, as Jesus did, and rest a while. When we rest, we find ourselves refreshed and renewed.
Come, knowing that wilderness is not a place to be feared, but a place in which we grow. We come to find ourselves in this place.
Come into this sacred place, and let us worship God.
87 Be still, for the presence of the Lord
David J. Evans
1. Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One, is here.
Come, bow before him now, with reverence and fear.
In him no sin is found, we stand on holy ground.
Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One, is here.
2. Be still, for the glory of the Lord is shining all around;
he burns with holy fire, with splendour he is crowned.
How awesome is the sight, our radiant King of light!
Be still, for the glory of the Lord is shining all around.
3. Be still, for the power of the Lord is moving in this place;
he comes to cleanse and heal, to minister his grace.
No work too hard for him, in faith receive from him.
Be still, for the power of the Lord is moving in this place.

Prayer of Confession
Sentence
God of the desert, you lead us by day and by night. Be with us when we are tested; may it be your bread we eat, your world we serve, and you alone we worship; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Today’s Reflection
As Jesus went to the wilderness to be alone with God, so when we
find ourselves in wilderness, in desert,
in lonely and seemingly destitute places of our lives: in places of joy
and hope, and in places of despair and
heartache; in times of wonder and imagining, and in times of anxiety
and fear.
May you know that God loves and cares for us,
everywhere.

and honour you. See Psalm 91 v 15,16.
Collect
God forgives you. Forgive others; forgive yourself. Silence
Through Christ, God has put away your sin: approach your God in peace.
Happy are those whose sins are forgiven, whose wrongs are pardoned. I will confess my sins to the Lord, I will not conceal my wrongdoings.
Silence
God forgives and heals us. We need your healing, merciful God: give us true repentance. Some sins are plain to us; some escape us, some we cannot face. Forgive us; set us free to hear your word to us; set us free to serve you. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon
God of our longing, you come to us in prayer. Help us to follow Jesus’ example by taking time to pray, and taking time to listen. This we ask in Jesus’ name and in the power of the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.
PS 165 Guide me,
O thou great Redeemer
1. Guide me, O thou great Redeemer, pilgrim through the barren land; I am weak, but thou art mighty, hold me with thy powerful hand: Bread of Heaven, Bread of Heaven, feed me till I want no more, feed me till I want no more. 2. Open now the crystal foundation, whence the healing stream doth flow; let the fire and cloudy pillar lead me all my journey through; strong deliv’rer, strong deliv’rer, be thou still my strength and shield, be thou still my strength and shield. 3. When I tread the verge of Jordan, bit my anxious fears subside; death of death, and hell’s destruction, land me safe on Canaan’s side; songs of praises, songs of praises, I will ever give to thee, I will ever give to thee. William Williams (1717-1791), John Hughes (1873-1932)
(Read by David.) So go into the world - and into this season - filled with thanksgiving for the God who never abandons us, no matter what and know that God will be with us always. AMEN

Now thank we all our God,, With hearts and hands and voices; Who wondrous things has done, In whom His world rejoices; Who from our mother’s arms
Has blessed us on our way With countless gifts of love, And still is ours today. O may this bounteous God Through all our life be near us, With ever joyful hearts And blessèd peace to cheer us; And keep us in His grace, And guide us when perplexed, And free us from all ills In this world and the next. All praise and thanks to God The Father now be given, The Son, and Him who reigns With them in highest heaven, The one eternal God, Whom earth and heaven adore; For thus it was, is now, And shall be ever more.

AM 464 God is here
God is here! As we his people meet to offer praise and prayer, may we find in fuller measure what it is in Christ we share: Here, as in the world around us, all our varied skills and arts wait the coming of His Spirit into open minds and hearts
Here are symbols to remind us of our lifelong need of grace; here are table, font and pulpit, here the cross has central place. Here in honesty of preaching, here in silence, as in speech, here in newness and renewal God the Spirit comes to each.
Here our children find a welcome in the Shepherd's flock and fold; here as bread and wine are taken, Christ sustains us as of old. Here the servants of the Servant seek in worship to explore what it means in daily living to believe and to adore.
Lord of all, of Church and Kingdom, in an age of change and doubt, keep us faithful to the gospel, help us work your purpose out. Here, in this day's dedication, all we have to give, receive; we who cannot live without you, we adore you! We believe.
