Adamson University ArtGallery opens photo exhibitTHE ADAMSON University ArtGallery opened In the Footsteps ofSt. Vincent de Paul: A Photo Exhib-it” on Sept. 1. Consisting of col-ored photographs of places asso-ciated with the life-story of St.Vincent de Paul, the exhibit was aselection from the collection ofphotos taken by Adamson Univer-sity president Fr. Gregg L. BañagaJr., CM during several trips toFrance in 2009, 2011 and 2013.

St. Vincent, a 17th-centuryFrench priest, is the founder ofthe worldwide Congregation ofthe Mission (CM), the Daughtersof Charity (DC) and several char-itable organizations like the Soci-ety of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP).He is considered a national heroin France on account of his ded-ication to serve the poor.

In his welcome remarks, Ba-

ñaga mentioned that he had beenlonging to make a pilgrimage toFrance to see the actual placesthat St. Vincent worked in whenhe was alive. When he did getthe opportunity, he took picturesof the sites so he could share histrip to the Adamson communityand to others from outside theuniversity. The ground floor ofthe gallery features photos of theplaces, such as churches, build-ings, and shrines associated withthe saint while the second floordisplays pictures of stained glasswindows from various churchesdepicting the work of St. Vincent.Fr. Gregg noted that in oldentimes, stained glass windowsserved as catechetical guides toteach people about the faith.

The exhibit is open to thepublic and runs until Oct. 17.

Beware of text scamsprotect our customers from beingvictimized by text scams. It isequally important for our cus-tomers to be aware that byadding the number “2” before the10-digit mobile number of the re-cipient, they are doing a share-a-load transaction,” said Globe Se-nior Vice-President for CorporateCommunications Yoly Crisanto.

Crisanto also urged Globecustomers to immediately re-port through www.globe.com.ph/stopspam and provide all thedetails required. Numbers thatare reported as source of textscams will be immediatelyblocked from the network.

GLOBE Telecom put in place more stringent measuresto curb text scams and prevent customers from beingvictimized in share-a-load transactions via SMS.

Starting early August, Globeset up a system which limits theamount of share-a-load transac-tion to a maximum of P150 orprepaid customers and P300 forpostpaid customer. This systemhelps postpaid customers fromsharing P500 in load credit.

As an added measure, cus-tomers will be given the choice toconfirm their transaction through avalidation text asking customers ifthey are sure about doing a share-a-load. The validation text will beimplemented starting Sept. 8.

Globe has put these measuresin place based on reports fromits customers about the varyingtext scams using spiels like re-wards, loyalty, MSF discount, roaming and bill overcharge, waiver of charges, refunds, etc.

A sample of such fraudulenttext message reads as follows:“Globe: Congrats! You’re one ofthe lucky postpaid subscribers toreceive a P500 bill discount. Toclaim your bill discount just text:500 and send to 2906XXXXXXX.”

Partnership targets dengue awarenessGLAXOSMITHKLINE, one of theworld’s leading research-basedpharmaceutical and healthcarecompanies and maker of doctor-recommended ParacetamolCalpol, joins forces with the De-partment of Health (DOH) andthe Philippine Pediatric Society(PPS) in spearheading a cam-paign called “Aksyon Laban saDengue: A Dengue Fever Aware-ness and Education Program” aswell as a Barangay Caravan thatwill bring dengue fever awarenessefforts to the grassroots level.

The World Health Organiza-tion has recommended paraceta-mol as the preferred and onlyrecommended analgesic treat-ment for dengue fever. Aspirin oribuprofen is not advised as thesedrugs may aggravate bleeding.

Calpol®, a product of GSK,

contains paracetamol specially de-signed to offer effective relief fromthe discomforts of pain and feveramong children. Calpol® also hasthe broad suitability associatedwith standard paracetamol so youcan be assured that it won’t harmyour child when used as directed.

Aside from fever, other signsand symptoms of dengue includeheadaches, nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, muscle and joint aches, rashes, and bleeding manifestations. Ifany of these symptoms are pre-sent, the patient must seek theirdoctor’s advice immediately.

Eliminating dengue must bea community effort. One suchinitiative is the partnership ofthe DOH, the PPS and Glaxo-SmithKline, which targets select-ed barangays within Metro

Manila with identified high cas-es of dengue incidence.

The DOH will initially facilitatethe training of health practition-ers to discuss new dengue inci-dences and disease trends as wellas updates on its prevention andtreatment guidelines. The PPShealth committee will then cas-cade these dengue modules basedon DOH guidelines with the se-lected barangays. On its part, GSKwill be bringing doctors to theseareas to lead the dengue informa-tion campaign to help Filipinosprotect their families and lovedones from this deadly menace.

Gilas PHHABANG sinusulat namin ito, tatlong oras na lang atmagsasagupa na ang Gilas-Pilip-inas at Puerto Rico sa CentroDeportivo San Pablo in Seville ,Spain. Ito ang second to the lastgame natin sa first round ng FI-BA World Cup and if we wantto make it to the next round, kailangang maipanalo natin anglast two game.

Today naka-schedule anghuli nating game sa first roundagainst Senegal, the other teamna sa tingin ni Gilas coac ChotReyes ay kaya natin talunin. The other one is Puerto Rico.

Ngayon pa lang, every Fil-

ipino is holding his breath.Kasi pag natalo tayo sa Puer-

to Rico ay goodbye secondround na, kahit manalo pa tayosa Senegal.

So how does it look, whatare our chances against thesetwo teams?

Sabi ni Rain or Sine mentorna si Yeng Guiao na nagging na-

tional coach na rin, ‘‘winnable”ang game against Puerto Ricodahil like us, hindi namankalakihan ang mga players nito, lalo na ang mga gwardya.

As for Senegal, although atfirst tingin natin ay kaya natin ito, well nagulat ang lahat ng taluninnito ang Croatia and has been ona two-game winning run.

‘‘Matatalo rin ang Senegal inone of their games, let’s hopematapat sa atin,” sabi ni Yengwho praised the national team fortheir new brand of play na uman-gat several notches from the lasttime we played in the World Cupwhich was 40 years ago.
