Your Task: Short Story Competition

1. Choose 1 of the photos to complete your short story on2. Complete the 5W and H organizer to help give you a

guideline for your writing3. Begin writing a 2-5 page short story on the image you

have…4. You will submit the 1st draft of your short story by the end

of the week5. At the beginning of next week, I will choose 5 short stories

to read and we will vote as a class on the best of the 51. (Good) prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd

Who  

- Tsonga, a 12 year old Christian rebel who is fighting for a warlord. His parents were both murdered in front of him

- Julienne, Tsonga’s 18 year old brother who is also fighting for the Christian rebels. Julienne murdered his parents for being unsupportive. 

What   

- Both brothers have been thrown into war by the influence of powerful local warlords- The brothers are responsible for holding and guarding an important bridge to the

rebel camp; there is conflict between the brothers but both are scared to go against the word of the rebel leader

When 

- Present day Northern Sudan in an urban city; over various days and nights

Where  

- Important bridge connecting the mainland to the urban centre; Northern Sudan; it is extremely hot and humid and an overcast kind of day;

Why   

- Both brothers have been forced into conflict at a very early age; Julienne was captured at a young age and made to go back and kill his parents for not supporting rebel forces; when he killed them he kidnapped his brother and brainwashed him to support the rebels; the warlord ultimately controls this area and has put his best soldiers to guard the bridge;

How 

- What the warlord doesn’t know is that Tsonga secretly despises his older brother and the rebels and is planning to take down the rebel forces
