Extended Day
Students who have been absent from tests or have accumulated multiple zeros
and are endanger of failing the six weeks will be assigned extended day on Mon-
days and Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 to make up missed tests or assignments.
Report Cards
1st six weeks report cards will be mailed on Wednesday.
Homecoming Week
This is week is homecoming. Homecoming Queen will be announced during
halftime on Friday.
Parent Portal
If you have not signed up for Parent Portal please contact the office if you need
assistance. Please encourage your child to sign up for their own account. They
can come by the office and we can sign them up.

PSAT will be administered at THS Wednesday,
October 14th. If your student signed up, the fee
will need to be paid as soon as possible.
Army National Guard will be at THS to visit with
all Juniors and Seniors Thursday, Oct. 8th
The next SAT test date is November 7th - sign up
deadline is October 9th.
The next ACT test date is October 24th - register
late with a fee

Rattler Bites Bistro
Culinary Arts Students will be selling products
cooked in class. On October 8, 2015 during Ac-
tivity Period students will officially open, for the
first time, Rattler Bites Bistro. Fudge, Quesadil-
las, Cookies, Muffins, Pretzels, Biscuits and
other tasty items. Come by Room 20 During Ac-
tivity Period to make a donation and vote for the
one you like.

Math Algebra/Pre-Cal/Calculus

Parents: Please continue to support and encourage your student with
their math studies. They have all been working so hard and it has been
such a pleasure to be here at Tolar High School. I post a calendar for each class on the board
each week and daily instructions for students upon entering the classroom. I usually arrive at
school around 7:35 a.m. for tutorials and am as available as possible during activity period and
after school (by appointment). Thank you for all of your help.
Algebra 1:
Students will continue their study of rates of change, functions and graphing. They are nearing
the end of the unit and, therefore, a test will be coming up in the very near future.
Precalculus:
Students will study linear functions, take a quiz over same, and prepare for an exam over the sec-
ond half of unit 2 the following week.
AP Calculus:
Students will wrap up their study of limits and prepare for test #2.
Advanced Precalculus:
Students will be studying quadratic applications all week and wrap up the unit over quadrat-
ics. Test #3 will occur the following week.
Algebra II and Geometry

Geometry classes will be finishing Unit 2 testing over segments this week and we will begin our
unit on angles.
Algebra 2 will be finishing unit 2 testing over graphs of linear equations and inequalities and will
begin solving systems of equations.

Biology will be discussing enzymes. They will do an enzyme lab later in the week. Anatomy will
cover the structure and functions of the integumentary system. They will do a histology of tis-
sues lab the second half of the week.
Chemistry will begin investigating the history and development of the periodic table.

English III DC - students will turn in the rough drafts of their synthesis essays on Tuesday. They
will then do peer editing. Final copies are due on Friday.
English IV - Students will begin their studies of Geoffrey Chaucer's "The Canterbury
Tales." Monday will be notes over the Middle Ages, and then they will begin reading The Pro-
logue of "The Canterbury Tales," focusing on detail and characterization.
English IV DC - Students will continue reading The Prologue from "The Canterbury Tales." We
will read "The Pardoner's Tale" and "The Wife of Bath's Tale."
English I Reading - This week students will be practicing editorial writing.
English Language Arts Courses
English ELA II & III

English II on-level: Students will watch the
film To Kill a Mockingbird and compare/
contrast it to the text. We will end the week
with our first study of persuasive texts and
their structures.
English II advanced: Students will begin read-
ings for the unit on Justice. We will look at
types of evidence/support, and students will
complete analysis activities on both the sub-
ject matter and the text structures.
English III on-level: Students will finish read-
ing The Crucible, and after a cumulative test,
they will watch the film.
Creative Writing/Reading: Students will begin
reading our first book, The Sound of Letting
Go.
English ELA I

Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. We will
continue to work on analytical writing and
improving sentence quality. Our literary
focus this week will be irony.

up the lecture on Chile and hand in notes for grade –
Begin preterite tense using the thief sequence on
Power Point: vocabulary, intro to preterite regulars;
Spanish 3: Reading Viaje de su vida capítulo 3 with
accompanying worksheet and listening chapter copy
for filling in the blanks; Imperfect tense this week

This week in Spanish II - we will learn
how to use and conjugate stem chang-
ing verbs. We will also learn how to use
and apply affirmative and negative com-
mands. We will also have a conversa-

schedule in Spanish. We will learn the
subject pronouns and how to conjugate
