Congratulations! Elizabeth, an ARRL PIO was able to take a lot of pictures of the Williams Hamfest and she had a great time at the Banquet and train ride to the Grand Canyon. See the pictures below. If you have a story about your recent involvement in youth and scouting with Amateur Radio, please email me. Jim Fagan, KE7IDC, Arizona Assistant Section Manager for Youth and Scouting. [email protected] STATE GOVERNMENT LIAISON Robert J. Spencer KE8DM of Yuma Arizona is the new ARRL, Arizona Section, State Government Liaison (SGL). Robert has about 100 volunteers on the committee. FLAGSTAFF HAM BECOMES BRIGADIER GENERAL Back in about 1978, I drove down to Phoenix to take my test for an upgraded FCC administered Ham license. I had the pleasure of also taking two other Flagstaff residents with me so they could take their test. They were Ray Teague, and his teenage son, Roger. We passed our tests! During that time of our lives, Roger went on and completed high school here in Flagstaff. He had interest in the Air Force and had to petition to get in to the AF Academy in Colorado. Senator Barry Goldwater, K7UGA and Rep Bob Stump were the two that signed his petition and the rest is explained in the AZ Daily Sun article dated July 10, 2011. Roger, N7AIW, now has a total of 30 years in the Air Force and recently was made a Brigadier General! He is now Vice Commander of The Space & Missile Center in LA, which employees 5000 personnel and an annual budget of $10.billion. I asked Ray if Roger still has his Ham license and he said yes, but his duties are pretty demanding, so, he does not have a lot of extra time on his hands. Ray (WB7FCS) & Mary (WB7FBN) still hold their Ham licenses. Mary has had some medical issue over the years and is currently at the Peaks rest home. If you know Ray, give him a call and pat him on the back. We can all be proud of Roger's accomplishments. I believe Mary and Ray had a lot to do with his success!!! Bob Wertz NF7E NEW 10 GHZ BEACON Tucson now has a 10 GHz beacon running about 10 milliwatts into a 2x6 slot waveguide antenna. It is located at the QTH of Jeff Volin's KC6WFU. Location: 32 18 33.85N, 110 57 46.27W, 757 Meters ASL. Look for it at approx. Freq: 10.368.052 MHz, FSK. It covers the entire Tucson valley, and they are awaiting reception reports. Thanks goes to Jeff KC6WFU, Henry KB7NIE, Bob WA3HRM to get this beacon on the air. Special thanks to Kerry Banke and the San Diego microwavers who supplied the main beacon components, which we modified and we are now sending signals into the ether (not the ethernet!).
