THUNDERBIRD HAMFEST The Thunderbird Hamfest is January 7 th . This year we are outside - tailgating permitted! Northwest Community Church, 16615 N. 43rd Ave, Phoenix, AZ. Kids Day is an on-air event to encourage young people (licensed or not) to have fun with Amateur Radio. It is designed to give on-the-air experience to youth and hopefully foster interest in getting a license of their own. It is also intended to give older hams a chance to share their station and love for Amateur Radio with their children. Hungry? Boy Scout Troop 157 will be hosting a pancake breakfast on Saturday January 21 st in Tucson from 7:30-10:30am at the Elks Lodge #2532 615 S. Pantano Road. The troop has been teaching the engineering, radio, electronics and electricity merit badges for several years now. There is a strong support from hams with the troop. 13 hams joined us for the pancake breakfast last year. Please help support the scouts again. Tickets ($5 adult, $3 kids) can be purchased from Jim Fagan. Please contact me, Jim Fagan KE7IDC Assistant Section Manager, [email protected] CENTRAL ARIZONA DX ASSOCIATION SPECIAL EVENT OPERATION K7UGA The Central Arizona DX Association is very pleased to announce our Special Event Operation in celebration of the Arizona Centennial during the week of February 13 -19, 2012. We will be using the call of the late Senior Senator, and Arizona native son, Barry M. Goldwater K7UGA. Individual CADXA members will be operating from their home stations located throughout Arizona during that week using the call K7UGA. However, only special operating locations from Tucson, Prescott and Phoenix will be on the air celebrating the 100th anniversary on Tuesday, February 14, 2012. Operations will be on all Amateur Bands (160 2 Meters); and will be using SSB, CW, RTTY, PSK31 and Satellite modes. This CADXA Special Event Operation has proudly received recognition from the 2012 Arizona Centennial Foundation as a sanctioned “Special Event”; and from the Arizona Historical Advisory Commission as an official “Centennial Legacy Project”. AMATEUR RADIO TELEVISION

This month the receive link from Mt Lemmon to White Tanks will be installed. Those in the Phoenix area will

be able to watch all the activity on the Mt Lemmon HAM TV repeater. After the incoming link is installed the

Mt Lemmon receive link will be installed and then we will have full time two-way video and audio. White

Tanks will receive the Mt Lemmon output - 1277.25 MHz AMTV. Mt Lemmon will receive White Tanks on a

separate link frequency of 2417.5 MHz FMTV. All the parts are in Arizona for the White Tanks receive -

PUBLIC INFORMATION COORDINATOR

ARIZONA NETS

- Arizona Traffic And Emergency Net (ATEN), meets daily on 3986 kHz at 7PM in the

summer (April 1st) and 5:30 PM in the winter www.atenaz.net Tomy Ivan KF7GC net

- Arizona Emergency Net – Maricopa (AEN-MAR) meets every Monday at 9:00 p.m. local

time, for training and exercise in the public service communication arts. The Mt. Ord 146.92(-) or the Shaw

Butte 147.24(+) repeater. Both require a 162.2 Hz tone. The repeaters are linked and cover most of

Maricopa County and portions of Pinal, Gila, Coconino, and Yavapai Counties in central Arizona.

- Saguaro National Traffic System (NTS) Net (http://www.saguaronts.net/), meets daily at 6:30 p.m. MST

(0130Z) on the Eastern Arizona Amateur Radio (http://www.eaars.org/) Society (E.A.A.R.S.) repeaters. The

net is open to all ham operators that are interested in the NTS regardless of license level. Traffic is “not”

required to check into the net but I certainly encourage any type of radiogram message traffic. If you don’t

know how to send, receive, or deliver traffic, we’ll train you right on the net. We also have training net on

Monday evenings if you would like to participate during that net. The repeaters are; 146.86 and (440.700

Hub) Heliograph Peak; 147.28 Guthrie Peak - Greenlee County; 145.21 Jacks Peak, New Mexico. Between

Lordsburg & Silver City; 145.41 Pinal Peak Near Globe, AZ; 147.16 Mt Lemmon Near Tucson; 146.70

Greens Peak Near Springerville – Showlow; 145.27 South Mtn. Near Alpine, AZ; 147.08 Mule Mtn. Near

Bisbee in Cochise County. All E.A.A.R.S. network repeaters operate with PL tone 141.3. For more

SILENT KEYS

Bill Schuchman, W7YS passed away on December 23rd

. Bill was a Ham for over 70 years and has helped well

over 100 people get their amateur radio licenses. His experience and expertise was always shared with anyone

needing help. He set the bar high, and help many of us become better hams. He will be greatly missed by all of

us.
