March 3 1911With Capt Benjamin D Foulois Daedalian Founder Member 321 navigating a course and Philip DParmelee Daedalian Founder Member 12889 at the controls the Wright ldquoType Brdquo set an official UScross-country record from Laredo to Eagle Pass Texas It flew the 106 miles in 2 hours 10 minutes

March 7 1916During an exhibition flight at Mobile Alabama a wind gust struck the hydroaeroplane AH-10 at an altitudeof 75 feet causing it to crash into the schooner Melba at anchor in the Mobile River The pilot LtEdward O McDonnell Daedalian Founder Member 7927 survived because the vesselrsquos riggingchecked his fall AH-10 was demolished and Melba sustained damage to her rigging and stays but theplane was subsequently rebuilt

March 16 1966Gemini VIII crewed by Neil A Armstrong and Maj David R Scott USAF launched from John FKennedy Space Center Florida After only seven orbits an attitude and maneuver system thrustermalfunctioned The astronauts regained control by using the reentry control system but the actionrequired the early termination of the mission and the capsule splashed down in the western Pacific about500 miles east of Okinawa The landing occurred within seven miles of destroyer Leonard F Mason (DD852) and she recovered the astronauts and their spacecraft

March 7 1916During an exhibition flight at Mobile Alabama a wind gust struck the hydroaeroplane AH-10 at an altitudeof 75 feet causing it to crash into the schooner Melba at anchor in the Mobile River The pilot LtEdward O McDonnell Daedalian Founder Member 7927 survived because the vesselrsquos riggingchecked his fall AH-10 was demolished and Melba sustained damage to her rigging and stays but theplane was subsequently rebuilt

March 16 1966Gemini VIII crewed by Neil A Armstrong and Maj David R Scott USAF launched from John FKennedy Space Center Florida After only seven orbits an attitude and maneuver system thrustermalfunctioned The astronauts regained control by using the reentry control system but the actionrequired the early termination of the mission and the capsule splashed down in the western Pacific about500 miles east of Okinawa The landing occurred within seven miles of destroyer Leonard F Mason (DD852) and she recovered the astronauts and their spacecraft
