WELCOME FROM THE LEADERSHIP OF TCC

Thank you for making contact with the school. We are a school community that wants the best for every child – in their learning, in their character development, in their response to God and His Word. We are delighted to be leading this community and to see the growth of young people in this school.

If our school is what you are looking for in Christian education, then please organise through our Enrolments Officer a time to meet with the Principal.

KEY SCRIPTURES FOR THE SCHOOL

3 John 1:4 (NIV)

I have no greater joy than to hear that My children are walking in the truth.

Malachi 2:15 (CEV)

Didn’t God create you to become like one person with your wife? And why did He do this? It was so you would have children, and then lead them to become God’s people.

Psalms 71:17 (NIV)

Since my youth, O God, You have taught me, and to this day I declare Your marvelous deeds.

Psalms 78:4-5 (NIV)

We will not hide them from their children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, His power, and the wonders He has done. He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which He commanded our forefathers to teach their children.

Isaiah 62:6-7 (NIV)

I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the LORD, give yourselves no rest, and give Him no rest till He establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth.

KEY VERSE FOR THE SCHOOL

We want students to have determined that their goal in life is to obey Christ’s greatest commandment as recorded in Matthew 22:37-40

37 And he said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.

38 This is the great and first commandment.

39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbour as yourself.

40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT TCC

At TCC, we are very focused in providing Christian Education to our students. To help you understand our approach, we have outlined below the key statements of what Christian Education is to us and how we express it.

Our View of Life

At TCC we believe

• Life is a gift from God that comes with responsibilities to God, to our neighbour and to ourselves

• The main choice in life is to choose to live for God

• We have been given life to discover God’s character, love and His glory

Our View of the Bible

At TCC we believe

• God has spoken through His Word to all peoples

• The Bible reveals how God has acted in history

• The Bible is the light that shows us the right path

• The Bible reveals who God is, who we are and what God expects from us

• The Bible will inspire us, challenge us and if we are willing, change us

Our View of Creation

At TCC we believe

• God is the Creator of all things

• God is sovereign but has given people free will

• God has declared what is good and right and expects obedience from His creation

• All God’s natural and spiritual laws will either build us or break us

Our View on Education

At TCC we believe

• All delivery of education in any institution comes from a particular viewpoint and flavour about such things as creation and a creator, the purpose of life, what is good and right, and how these things are determined

• The primary reason for education at TCC is so that students learn these things from a biblical point of view

• Every student needs to develop a love of learning

• All students at TCC are to be good readers so that they can understand God’s Word

• Students at TCC are encouraged not to compare themselves with others but against the talent God has given them

• All students need to be encouraged to seek after wisdom and understanding

Our View of Truth

At TCC we believe

• All truth is God’s truth because He is the author of truth

• In our exploration of truth we start from what God has revealed

• Truth will not always be appealing to our thinking or desires as we are free moral agents who are tainted with selfishness

• Truth when properly applied is liberating

• Truth is in Christ - He is the truth

Our View of Who Jesus Is and Was

At TCC we believe

• Jesus’ life was foretold in the Old Testament

• Jesus’ life was sinless and matchless

• Jesus was full of grace and truth

• Jesus’ death on Good Friday was no accident

• Jesus’ resurrection is pivotal to the message of salvation

• Jesus has set up His kingdom and invites us to become citizens of His kingdom

Three Key Scriptures Concerning Creation & Jesus Christ.

Our View of the Child

At TCC we believe

• All students are born ‘in the image of Adam’ - they are not born good or with a clean slate

• All students are born ‘in the image of God’ - they are capable of amazing acts of creativity and self-sacrifice

• All students have been created as worshippers, and as such will end up worshipping someone or something

• All students are loved by God and invited to become part of His family

• All students have a desire for justice, peace and acceptance

• As a result of their fallenness, students need training and external boundaries

• All children are gifted by God to complete His assigned tasks

• Each child has a calling from God on their life

• The goal for each child is to hear from God ‘Well done, good and faithful servant’

Our View on the Role of the Parent

At TCC we believe

• Parents are the primary educators of their children

• The home is the first school any child attends

• God’s heart is to have loving families where His ways are taught to children

• Parents play a vital role in the effectiveness of the schooling of their children

• Parents need to have high expectation of what their child can achieve

• Parents’ support and partnership with the school will benefit the child

• One of the greatest lessons a parent can give their child is the answer ‘no’

Our View on the Role of the Teacher

At TCC we believe

• Each teacher in a Christian school must be able to speak from a personal revelation and conversion experience of the Christian faith

• To rightfully talk about the Kingdom of God, a teacher must be already in the Kingdom of God

• Each teacher must ‘walk the talk’ of what the school holds as its view of Christian community

• Teachers need to embrace the responsibility of passing on to the next generation the wisdom of God

• Teachers need to embrace the responsibility of passing on to the next generation the glory and splendour of God

Our View of Living Within This Christian Community

At TCC we believe

• All those working on the TCC campus are part of the community through whom Christ wants to demonstrate His love and grace

• The life of the community should be marked by the ‘royal law’

• Our work is our worship

• The hallmarks of our community are humility, love and support

Hebrews 1:1-4 - Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke

to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.

Genesis 1:1 - In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

John 1:1-5 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,

and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Our View on What is to be Valued in Our School

At TCC we believe these attributes are essential

• Acceptance of other people

• Forgiveness, kindness, and patience

• Loving others

• Respect and obedience

• Servanthood

• Endeavour

• Honesty and integrity

• Humility

• Embracing truth

• Seeking first the kingdom of God

Our Goals for All Students

At TCC we aim for each student

• To develop a Christian character

• To develop a God-honouring view of life

• To take responsibility for their actions

• To be kind and considerate of others

• To seek the common good

• To live peacefully with others

• To maximise the opportunities offered by the school

• To expand their wisdom and understanding

• To base their lives on the truth of God’s Word

Our Over-arching Hope for All Students

At TCC we desire every student to become an OUTSTANDING SERVANT OF THE LIVING GOD.

EIGHT FOUNDATIONS FOR EVERY TCC STUDENT

Education that is focused on the whole person is a special gift awaiting every student at Toowoomba Christian College. More than a successful career or further study at university is our desire to see every student leave the school as a wise and well-equipped young person - not in their own eyes or the eyes of others but in the eyes of God. As Proverbs Chapter 4 says to young people:

Students will spend a life-time learning and discovering the wonders of God and finding what mankind can make out of what God has provided.

Toowoomba Christian College wants to place eight foundations in each student’s life that will help them when these moments of learning and decision-making arise. We believe every person needs these 8 foundations.

FOUNDATION 1: KNOWLEDGE OF THE SCRIPTURES

God’s Word is true and a proper understanding of it helps us in all we do. It is there for each of us to read, study and to embrace. At Toowoomba Christian College we want every student to know what the Bible is about and to understand God’s story.

FOUNDATION 2: SEE THE UNSEEN

The world we live in is more than what we can see and much more than what science can describe. We believe that God has made the natural world which will not last forever and like all things will pass away. There is an eternal world - the spiritual dimension that we are currently part of but will fully enter after we die.

We hold to the view that these truths are not naturally apparent to us nor can they be learnt by listening to our own heart. Truth has come by revelation from God and has been preserved for each of us through the Scriptures.

At Toowoomba Christian College we want to help every student understand the explanation God has given in His Word about the natural and the supernatural world.

The beginning of wisdom is this:Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.

8 Prize her highly, and she will exalt you;

she will honour you if you embrace her9 She will place on your head a graceful garland; she will bestow on you a beautiful crown.

Psalm 119:105Your word is a lamp to my

feet and a light to my path.

Ephesians 1:18Having the eyes of your

hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you.

FOUNDATION 3: LITERACY AND NUMERACY

The core life skills of literacy and numeracy are fundamental to all students’ futures.

We want each student to be the best speller, reader, writer, thinker, speaker they can be. We want them to be able to discover truth and wisdom through using these skills. We want each student to be able to do quick and accurate calculations and to manipulate numbers well. Working with numbers is the basis of all work. The desire to be accurate with figures has enormous spin-offs in terms of looking for and understanding truth in all facets of life. At Toowoomba Christian College we want every student to excel at their ability in literacy and numeracy.

FOUNDATION 4: WISDOM

We have been given by God the ability to become wise. We can become wise in our own eyes or in the eyes of others but true wisdom is from God and does not come naturally to us. We have to want to learn wisdom and embrace it and be willing to stand up for what we know is right. At Toowoomba Christian College we want to help every student grow in God’s wisdom.

FOUNDATION 5: CONCERN FOR OTHERS

One of the key attributes of Christians down through the centuries has been their willingness to care for and serve others. This should not be a surprise to us as serving our neighbour and caring for them is part of the answer Christ gave concerning the greatest commandment.

We live in a day when the message from all sides is about ‘you’ and puts ‘me’ in the centre as No. 1. Christ told some amazing stories and parables to confront this attitude and put the welfare of others ahead of ourselves.

At Toowoomba Christian College we want to help each student develop a concern and interest and involvement in the common good.

FOUNDATION 6: BEING SERVANT-HEARTED

Schooling comes but once in a person’s life. Each student needs to make sure they do not become like others who, in later life, look back with regret on what they did not achieve at school.

At Toowoomba Christian College we want each student to look back with satisfaction on the choices they made in their youth while they were a student at the school.

2 Timothy 2:15Do your best to present

yourself to God as one approved a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

Proverbs 3:7Be not wise in your own

eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.

Matthew 22:38You shall love your

neighbour as yourself.

Lamentations 3:27It is good for a man to

bear the yoke in his youth.

Ecclesiastes 12:1Remember also the

Creator in the days of your youth before the evil days come and the years draw near of which you will say, I have no pleasure in them.

FOUNDATION 7: GOOD DECISION MAKING

The world is full of a variety of morals and it possible to almost believe anything and justify it as well! Each student will need to choose where they are going to stand on a range of issues both here at school and in life after school.

To help each student make God-fearing decisions they will be exhorted at school to consider the interpretation of Scriptures that says the Bible is reliable, accurate and God-inspired, and is relevant to all cultures in all places in all times.

We want students to be gracious and tolerant in working with others who do not have the same moral commitment or values. At Toowoomba Christian College we want every student to develop a set of values and a view of morality that is consistent with a Christian worldview. We also want to teach students to take personal responsibility for their actions.

FOUNDATION 8: VIRTUES

As can be seen from the passage above God expects people to ‘walk the talk’ almost without thinking or worrying about their consequences.

Like a good sports person who practises hard so that their responses and reactions in the pressure of competition are automatic, we believe that the virtues of a Christian life can be developed in the same way - repetition with relevance and commitment.

At Toowoomba Christian College we want to help young people develop patterns of responses in their lives that will make certain godly responses automatic because they have accepted these standards as the way they want to live and have been trained to respond that way.

SUMMARY

All of the above 8 foundations are summarised in one word at Toowoomba Christian College and that is for every student to have as a goal to become an OUTSTANDING student!

Our goal for every student is to become an outstanding young person who has committed themselves to serving God with all they have.

Proverbs 14: 12There is a way that

seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.

Psalm 151 O Lord, who shall sojourn

in your tent? Who shall dwell on your holy hill?2 He who walks blamelessly and does what is right and speaks truth in his heart;3 who does not slander with his tongue and does no evil to his neighbour, nor takes up a reproach against his friend;4 in whose eyes a vile person is despised, but who honours those who fear the Lord; who swears to his own hurt and does not change;5 who does not put out his money at interest and does not take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.

PARENTAL SUPPORT OF THEIR CHILDREN’S EDUCATION

Preamble

It is expected that all parents who choose to enrol their children at TCC will actively and willingly support Christian education in the way it is offered at Toowoomba Christian College. The school makes sure that it informs parents in a variety of ways about the specific nature of its schooling through the information on the school website and in its literature. As part of the application process parents agree to support the school in its endeavours to teach and operate from a Christian position.

Expectations

Partnership

The school believes firmly in the partnership between home and the school, and wants parents to feel welcome and involved as part of the schooling process of their children. There will be times when sharing of information between school and home and vice versa will be needed to complete the full picture of what has been going on for a student and the school wants to make sure that parents are fully informed and participating in the training of their children.

Attend

The school offers numerous opportunities for parents to attend parent teacher interviews. The school expects to see each parent attend at least one parent-teacher interview each year. The school expects students to attend school every day and to make the most of each day.

Assist

The school is limited as to what it can offer to each student. Just as each parent gets involved with their son or daughter if they were a gifted sportsperson or musician and arranges professional coaching for them, or in the same way, if their child has a medical condition they seek out specialist support, we expect parents to be involved when their child has a learning or social issue that requires expertise beyond what the school can give.

Have High Expectations

The school expects parents to have high expectations for their children and for some parents this will mean a far more positive attitude towards learning and participating in school life

than they had in their own school days. The school wants to help parents lift their hopes and dreams for their children and not put a negative ‘glass ceiling’ on what they can achieve.

Support Hard Work

The school expects students to work hard and give of their best. We want parents to endorse diligence and persistence from their children and to encourage them to do their best at all times.

Discuss Concerns

The school wants parents to raise any concerns they have with the appropriate person within the school in a timely manner. If parents are uncertain as to whom that might be, they should contact the Enrolments Officer and will be directed to the right person. Parents must abide by our Social Media Policy and the Raising Concerns With The School protocols.

Summary

The school is delighted to offer to parents Christian education for their children. We know that parents are the primary care-givers and are responsible before God for the way they train their children. We know that we are not able to do everything for every child and want parents to work with the school in helping their children reach their God-given potential.

SPORT HOUSE INFORMATION

The College’s four houses are named after Christians who have shown great commitment to God as they have pursued a certain area of service to God and their fellow man, in keeping with the College’s motto “Pro Ductibus Pro Patriae” which means “for leadership and for country”.

The four houses are named after Christians who actively lived out loving their neighbours as themselves and who each exemplified loving the Lord with all of their heart, soul, mind and strength.

In Mark Chapter 12, we read an account of Jesus being asked to identify which of the commandments is the most important. Jesus reply: “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
