10. Varun Dhawan – Main Tera Hero, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya

Varun was a rock-star in Main Tera Hero. From dancing to fighting to expressing love to pulling off hilarious scenes – he did it all with super effortlessness. David Dhawan brought out the best in his son, in his high on entertainment movie. In Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya also, Varun impressed us with his acting chops. His jodi with the petite beauty, Alia Bhatt, floored us – mainly because of Alia's freshness and spontaneity in front of the cameras and Varun's outstanding performance as a complementing partner..

9. Sidharth Malhotra – Ek Villain

Sidharth is not only about a hot, chiselled body and a handsome face; he can act too! And he's proved it with each of his screen-outing. The actor did a fab job when he handled some complex, challenging situations in Mohit Suri's Ek Villain with utmost intensity and understanding.

8. Arjun Kapoor – 2 States, Gunday, Finding Fanny

Filmmaker Boney Kapoor's son, Arjun Kapoor, had three releases this year, and we have to say that he came out with flying colors in all of them. He convinced us as a rugged goon in Gunday, and impressed us with his poised act in 2 States as an intense lover. Finding Fanny, on the other hand, was on a lighter note and the actor easily proved it that he could pull off comedy too!

7. Randeep Hooda – Highway

The idea of Randeep Hooda and Alia Bhatt as screen-lovers surprised us. While we thought the odd pairing wouldn't look convincing, the duo proved us wrong. If Alia's Veera was the life of Imtiaz Ali's Highway, Randeep played his part of a thug with supreme loyalty and made Bhatt's character all the more eye-pleasing.

6. Sharib Hashmi – Filmistaan

Sharib Hashmi, who had previously done small parts in some films like Haal-e-Dil and Jab Tak Hai Jaan, was a true revelation in Filmistaan. As a wannabe movie-star, he warms the cockles of our hearts with his natural acting abilities. His comic timing in several crazy situations was spot on! Sharib truly deserves to be applauded for his ace performance in Filmistaan.

5. Riteish Deshmukh – Ek Villain

We have absolutely loved Riteish in his comic avatars, as a woman, and as a typical Bollywood hero previously. But when the fine actor turned grey in Ek Villain, we totally went gaga over him! He was a revelation as a baddie! Deshmukh gave us ample moments of visual delight and cinematic satisfaction as he played his dark, intense part to the T.

4. Nawazuddin Siddiqui – Kick

Though Kick was a Salman Khan flick, Nawazuddin Siddiqui was the best thing about it! In his typical Bollywoodised baddie avatar, the powerhouse actor stunned us. The artiste, who majorly belongs to art cinema, made his presence felt and applauded in commercial league also, with Sajid Nadiadwala's Kick.

3. Rajkummar Rao – Queen, CityLights

In Queen, Rajkummar was spot-on as a wannabe who opted out of marrying a girl he suddenly thought wasn't the right match for him. He played his part so convincingly that we easily believed him to be a total jerk who, later dropped hints of confusion and self-doubt when he wanted the girl back in his life. Even with his role in CityLights, Rajkummar touched just the right chords with us.

2. Shahid Kapoor – Haider

While we had been waiting for Shahid to give us a film that could live up to his potential, he came up with Haider. And we were bowled over! The brilliant performer was easily the strength of Vishal Bhardwaj's revenge saga. He truly owned the intense drama with his first-class display of varied emotions – ranging from vulnerability to grief to strength to obsession. After disappointing us with box-office duds like Phata Poster Nikhla Hero and R... Rajkumar, which were all about wishy-washy scripts and forced comedy, Shahid hit the bull's eye with Haider – he had clearly arrived again and how!

1. Aamir Khan – PK

Rajkumar Hirani's PK has Aamir Khan in an otherworldly avatar, and the brilliant actor seems to have shed all his inhibitions – well, literally – to dive under the skin of his tough character. He is enthralling and makes us go wow each time he is on the screens. The best thing about Khan in PK is that does and says all the weird and whacky things humans are not really used to of – yet never goes overboard even once! Undoubtedly, PK is one of Aamir's most outstanding performances till date.
