Evaluation - Product Cycle
• Identifying the nature of evaluation at different stages of the product cycle
• Different types of market research, for example:• evaluating competitive products• evaluating the success of a new product • evaluating for redesign

Cost Effectiveness
• The importance of cost effectiveness to manufacturers is to:
• In order to maximize profit, manufacturers require the most cost-effective production system. This is often the major aim of the brief for designers.

Quality Control• Is involved in developing systems to
ensure products or services are designed and produced to meet or exceed customer requirements• Define a quality control planning strategy:
What to check? How? Who? When?• Assure the quality of all products• Effective inspections and fast trouble-
shooting• Commit to traceability requirements and/or
standards• Control non-conformances and effectively
manage their processing and associated quality actions (preventive, corrective)
• Monitor the quality improvement process

Quality Assurance• This covers all activities from design to
documentation. It also includes the regulation of quality of raw materials, assemblies, products and components, services related to production, and management and inspection processes.
• Key Factors of a Quality Assurance System• Organization of the workforce• Control of design• Control of production systems• Manufacture to specification• Standards

Performance Test• Testing of any product, raw materials and
accessories is a necessary requirement in providing quality assurance to clients and ensuring the safety of end users. Testing can be performed on a wide range of materials, the product, product lines, prototype creations and services.
•Advantages•It is possible to collect quantitative data, but the test may be time-consuming and costly
•Disadvantages•It can be used where a user trial is not feasible, for example, crash-testing cars

Field Trial• A test of the performance of some new product
under the conditions in which it will be used• Laboratory trials are a good way of measuring
progress but field trials are the only true way to determine how good a product is
•Advantages•The product is tested in the marketplace, which provides data that is different from laboratory-based evaluations
•Disadvantages•Field trials are usually quite extensive exercises, so can be expensive
