Welcome to Guided Reading lesson. This lesson is required to be done in two weeks. In this lesson, you will read “Burly Reid”-a personal recount text and do the activities provided.

1. What is Context Clue? Context clue is a comprehension strategy where you use clues (hints) given in a text to define meanings of unfamiliar words (words that are new to you).

• For example, Tommy wanted to buy a new car. At first he didn’t know what colour to choose. Then he looked up at the clear, sunny sky so he chose blue. He wondered if the lighter tone would suit him.

• Now, to define the word tone, lets look for clues.

• First, what is the word tone referring to? Tommy’s car.

• What colour is Tommy’s car? Blue

• So now we can determine the meaning of the word tone. Tone refers to the shade or quality of the colour of the car Tommy chose.

1. What is it?

Is a person’s own responses and reactions during an occasion.

To engage the reader in an imaginative experience.

3. Features of a Personal Recount

Personal Recount usually feature:

oThe narrator’s own responses and reactions.

oEvents are recorded in a sequence and links are made to do with time.

oEvents all relate to one particular occasion, happening or idea.

oThere is a conclusion at the end, that could include an interpretation of events or a personal comment.

oPast tense is used.

oFirst person is used

oThe narrator was personally involved in the event.

Title

Events (series of events that have happened from beginning to end).

Conclusion (can be an interpretation of events or personal comment).
