1. What is Context Clue?
Context clue is a comprehension strategy where you use clues (hints) given in a text to define meanings of unfamiliar words (words that are new to you).
• For example, Tommy wanted to buy a new car. At first he didn’t know what colour to choose. Then he looked up at the clear, sunny sky so he chose blue. He wondered if the lighter tone would suit him.
• Now, to define the word tone, lets look for clues.
• First, what is the word tone referring to? Tommy’s car.
• What colour is Tommy’s car? Blue
• So now we can determine the meaning of the word tone. Tone refers to the shade or quality of the colour of the car Tommy chose.
