Originally used in reference to a feature on some formal horse-drawn carriages, the folding landau top was used in comparable coachwork for automobiles. After the grand era of custom auto body work in the 1920s and 1930s, the concept of a landau top changed from a functional feature on limited production car bodies to a decorative feature on higher volume cars. Instead of a folding soft top over the rear seat of a formal town car, landau tops became a rigid, decorative roof cover for upscale sedans,

especially after 1960. From about 1964 through 1985, this term came to refer to any vinyl roof-cover on sedans, promoted especially by Chrysler, Ford and General Motors. Some of these were embellished with dummy landau bars: gently “S” shaped, chromed bars reminiscent of functional parts on the outsides of folding landau tops decades before. The landau top, in its later

form, persists on the roofs of American stretch limousines and received further embellishment in the form of simulated convertible tops from about 1980 onward.

Loop This carpet is designed to match carpets used in most domestic vehicles from the 50s

through 1973. Loop can be specified for 1974 & later vehicles as well. This carpet is the only carpet in the industry tufted from 80% rayon & 20% nylon. It is tufted to a 5/32 gauge loop & contains 24 ounces of yarn per square yard. It is dyed using the finest dyes available and tested for ozone humidity fading & light


Cutpile This carpet is similar to what is found in most domestic vehicles since 1974. In some cases its pile height is not as high as OEM. Cut pile can be specified for just about any model vehicle. Our nylon cut pile is constructed from 100% first quality Dupont yarn. It is tufted on a 1/8 gauge machine with 14 ounces of yarn per square yard. Please note - Luxury Liner was changed February, 2010, and no longer comes with an open celled foam attached. Please use our Overkill or Overkill Pro to replace the foam decoupler.

Over Kill Pro™ is a very flexible OEM style foam made of closed cell vinyl infused with rubber, specifically engineered to absorb airborne noise in your doors between the frequency range of 15k Hz and 20k Hz. It is 3 times thicker than our regular Overkill mat and will do 3 times the work.

The inner layer is constructed with similar processes used for our Dustop™ interior storage covers - gentle protection for fine paint finishes (inner layer is now light gray).
