all over the world. It is a media outlet that will help foster more effective communication by strengthening our identity and sense of belonging. In these pages we will be able to get to know each other, regardless of geographic distance or the diversity of our activities: where we are, who we are, what we do, our talents, projects and achievements. Along the same lines, in order to strengthen relationships and cooperation, our mining operations in Mexico, Peru and the U.S. have been joined under a single entity: Americas Mining Corporation. This union will allow us to work with a shared vision, increase our competitiveness, foster multiregional management and facilitate the incorporation of new operations. The governor of the state of San Luis Potosí, Juan Manuel Carreras López, toured the

facilities at the old Copper Plant with Xavier García de Quevedo, CEO of the Infrastructure Division, and Vidal Mu-hech Dip, Corporate General Director of Engineering and Construction, and other Grupo México executives.

The tour highlighted advances in the remediation efforts underway for environmental restoration of the area occupied by the plant. The sur-face of the land has been removed and placed in a containment area in a geologically stable formation, which has a multi-barrier system that guarantees impermeability.

The project, which was developed with the support of nationally and internationally renowned institutions and experts in the field, is being implemented in accordance with all applicable environmental laws and regulations and with the environmen-tal and health risk studies approved by the respective authorities.

The Federal Environmental Protection Agency (PROFEPA) awarded six recognitions to this unit for its efforts as a sustainable company. The Concentrator Plant, the Molybdenum Plant, Mine-Concentrator Services and the Lime Plant received Clean Industry certification, while the Light Smelter Equipment Shopand the Maintenance Supply Shop received Environmen-tal Quality certificates.

This conference, organized by The U.S. Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration, brings together the largest organiza-tions and primary actors in the mining industry at the global level. ASARCO participa-ted with a stand and a presentation regarding the use of solar panels in mines, by Krishna Parameswaran. The event, held in Phoenix, Arizona, included an exhibit hall with more than 800 exhi-bitors and some 7,000 visitors from around the world.

REFORESTATION IN SONORA Grupo México and the Office of the Secretary of Education and Culture of the state of Sonora signed an agreement for the donation of 250,000 trees that will be planted at primary school sites. This project, which will benefit 3,942 schools in the state, aims to promote reforestation and teach children to care for the trees and the environment.

NUEVA ROSITA: PERFECT ATTENDANCE Grupo México recognized 25 Nueva Rosita team members who achieved perfect attendance records between January 1 and December 31 of 2015. The team members work in different areas of the Plant, including General Offices, Operations, Maintenance, Safety and Security.

AWARD FOR SOUTHERN PERU The Ministry of Labor and Employment Development presented an award to our Peruvian affiliate for winning second place in the 2015 Good Labor Practices contest, which recognizes companies that are national models for protec-ting, respecting and promoting basic worker rights. Grupo México, through Southern Peru, entered the contest with its educational programs, Engineers in Training, Professional Internships or Scholarship Program, Technical Internships, Internships for Children of Employees, and Internships for Community Youth, which have been operating for more than 15 years and have provided occupational opportunities to more than 3,800 youths.

SUPPORTING THE ROAD TO LIFE

Grupo México, through the Cananea Casa Grande Community Development Center, donated a new vehicle to support the program Road to Life. Thanks to this ini-tiative, access to medical care has been made possible for more that 2,000 residents of Cananea and neighboring communities, with more than 700 free rides to different healthcare centers and clinics.

Thanks to the expansion of operations at this site, which is one of Southern Peru’s largest projects and one of the largest projects in the Peruvian mining sector, Toquepala will become the fourth largest copper mine in the Andean country.

The expansion of Toquepala will allow for an increase in production capacity from 135,000 tons of copper in 2015 to 235,000 tons by 2018.

as well as the acquisition of equipment for the new plant. These projects will result in increased production capacity of 100,000 tons of copper annually. That means an increase from 135,000 tons in 2015 to 235,000 in 2018. Molybdenum production will also see an increase of 3,100 tons.

The capital investment is estimated at 1.2 billion dollars. As of January of 2015, the work was 33% complete and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2018.

It is important to note that the water used for the project will be fully recovered using new thickeners installed in the current Concentrator. Efficient use of water resour-ces—made possible by investment in state-of-the-art technology—is another indicator of Grupo México’s commitment to environmental preservation in all of its processes.

Perched on the western slope of the Andes moun-tain range in the southern region of Peru lies the Toquepala copper deposit. Southern Peru’s

operations there are dedicated to copper pro-duction with an open pit mine, a Concentrator Plant and a Solvent Extraction and Electrowin-ning (SX/EW) Plant.

The building permit for expansion of the Concentrator Plant was approved on April 14, 2015, following approval of the Environmental Impact Study showing that the company meets the highest environmental standards establi-shed by the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru.The expansion project includes engineering, earthmoving for civil engineering projects,

IMPACTMining is vital to Peru’s economy. According to the Peruvian Economic Institute, mining activities account for more than 50% of the country’s foreign exchange, 20% of its tax revenue, 11% of Gross Domestic Product and the majority of fo-reign investment, among other macroeconomic indicators.

In this context, the Toquepala expansion project is of vital importance, not just because of its contribution to the national mining sector, but also because it will generate more sources of employment and other valuable benefits for surrounding communities, thereby contributing to the general progress of the country.

COMPLEMENTARY INFRASTRUCTURE While work is underway on the expansion, there are already operational facilities in place, which were built previously and which represent im-portant improvements, both technologically and environmentally:

CRUSHER (GRINDER)A modern structure that measures 36 meters high, comparable to a 15-floor building, composed of two parallel crushers, one of which is already functioning, with a processing capacity of 3,000 tons of material per hour.

Will include primary and secondary crush areas, HPGR structure (rolls for tertiary

crushing), mill and flotation plant, tail thic-kener area, as well as a platform for the filter plant and molybdenum plant.

BELT SYSTEMManufactured using the most advanced tech-nology in the world for transporting ore. This system is 2 kilometers long and can transport 3,000 tons per hour, which has resulted in time savings in the productive process, faster ore dis-patching, and which replaces the use of trains, resulting in reduced diesel fuel consumption.

DOMESTwo important domes for ore storage. The first measures 115 meters in diameter by 50 meters high and the second, 85 meters in diameter by 40 meters high. The installation of the two domes required an investment of approximately $10 million dollars.

Grupo México arrives in Spain to operate the Aznalcóllar Mining Complex, a project with great potential that will contribute to economic and social growth in Andalucía.

Aznalcóllar Mining Complex

Ta The autonomous community of Andalucía, Spain, is a region with a long mining history. Along its western side, between the provinces of Seville and Huelva, runs the Iberian Pyrite

Belt, which is the largest European reserve of polymetallic sulphides. And that is precisely where Aznalcóllar is located.

The Aznalcóllar Mining Complex is made up of two pits that were partially mined between 1975 and 2001, when it was closed. In 2014, however, the Andalucía government launched an international public bid to reopen the mine and it was Grupo México who, in 2015 obtained a 30-year concession for a new phase of exploration and exploitation of its deposits.

The project was carried out by a multidisci-plinary team of more than 50 people, including specialists from Grupo México and partners from


a variety of consulting firms. The result was a modern and responsible mining operations model that is economically, socially and environmenta-lly sustainable, technically innovative, and that meets the highest safety requirements. Some of its most outstanding aspects include:

# The mining design, which calls for the transfor-mation of the mine from a pit to a 100% under-ground mine, using the bubble concept, thanks to which the mining activities will barely be perceptible from outside the grounds.

# The ore extraction will be done using the method known as longhole stoping or cut and fill, which will allow for efficient handling of waste, as the sterile materials will be re-deposited in the mining holes.

# Treatment, reuse and self-sufficient water management, as well as Greenhouse Gas Emissions offsets and use of electricity generated from renewable sources.

Also included is an Environmental Res-toration Plan for the rehabilitation of all of the areas involved in both the past and future mining operations. Thus, when the operation is complete, those areas will have been conver-ted to natural spaces.

In terms of corporate responsibility, the project will act as a social and economic catalyst in its area of influence, spurring job creation, social improvements and territorial development activities, among other short, medium and long-term benefits.

Mr. Adrián Monter, Assistant Director of Human Resources of the Infrastructure Division of Grupo México was invited to participate as a speaker on a panel on recruitment strategies and identifying talent.

MEET MY COMPANY

Electromechanical and mechanical engi-neering students from the Istmo Technolo-gical Institute toured the facilities at the El Retiro Wind Park in La Ventosa, Oaxaca. During the visit, which was aimed at strengthening acade-mic ties, the students had the opportunity to observe the appli-cation of technology in the field, unders-tand the components that make up a wind turbine, and learn about operations, maintenance, envi-ronmental control mechanisms and energy production.

EXPERIEN-TIAL ENVI-RONMENTAL EDUCATION WORKSHOP

As part of the Sustai-nable Schools project sponsored by the Environmental Office of the Municipal Go-vernment of Cd. del Carmen, Casa Grande provided a training course to facilitators who will work on the project. Their job will be to advise students about the different actions they can take to protect the environment.

WETLANDS FOR OUR FUTURE

In the context of World Wetlands Day (February 2), Grupo México Oil and Gas supported the installation of a photo gallery in front of the Cd. del Carmen City Hall, as well the cleanup and reforestation of the mangrove in the area invaded by riparian inhabitants, which was recovered in early 2016.

Mangroves are ecosystems with a high environmental value and that are essential for sustainable development. Their many benefits include improving water quality, provi-ding breeding grounds for several marine species, providing refuge for resident and migratory birds, protecting the coasts from erosion and storm surges caused by hurricanes, trapping sediment and leaf litter in their roots, which helps to refill and reclaim land.

WORKING TOGETHER FOR INCLUSION: EDUCATION FOR EQUALITY

Grupo México Oil and Gas, through Casa Grande Ciudad del Carmen, participated in the Municipal Disability Day organized by the Municipal Office on Disability and the Fami-ly Development Office of Carmen. Experiential education techniques were used in a series of workshops for special education teachers to provide them with tools for inclusion.

Grupo México Engineering and Construction under-takes projects in Buena-vista del Cobre, including construction, maintenance and reinforcement of the banks of the tailings dam, a new tailings storage area, and expansion of the clearance in 15 railway tunnels on the Tepic – Gua-dalajara line. In addition, it is carrying out compli-mentary detail engineering for the expansion of the Concentrator Plant at the Toquepala mine in Peru to 120,000 TMD, currently 60% completed.

Operation of the highway is managed by qualified personnel, working 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, with the support of the Fire Department, the Civil Protection agency and the Green Angels.

What does Highway H4S mean?The H stands for High Specifica-tion, the 4 refers to the number of lanes and the S indicates separated elements, that is, there is a sepa-rator between the outbound and inbound lanes in order to provide greater driver safety.

This highway, which was inaugurated in Sep-tember of 2015, is among the first in the country to be equipped with a Smart Transportation System, also known as Intelligent Transporta-tion System (ITS). It includes a series of techno-logical applications for traffic management that provide better highway service and improved safety for users.

VERACRUZ AND TAMAULIPAS

The Veracruz and Tamaulipas platforms are under contract until

2019 for drilling in the Ayatsil field in the Campeche Sound.

In addition to the five jack-up platforms, Grupo México Oil and Gas has two modu-lar platforms for marine drilling: the Ve-racruz platform, which began operations on October 15 of 2015, and the Tamaulipas platform, which is estimated to start up in

late 2016. Both were manufactured with state-of-the-art technology and they are the highest capacity of their class.

Each platform is composed of 108 modules. The steel structures were manufactured in Texas, USA, while the most important compo-nents, machinery and devices were acquired from the leading companies in each field.

In order to ensure that all of the equipment and systems were functioning properly, the platforms were fully assembled on land, on a lot of the LoneStar Energy Fabrication shipyard in Baytown, Texas. Once tested, they were disassembled for transportation by boat from the Port of Houston to their operation sites.

On the drilling site, the platform is installed on a solid structure, built by Pemex, which is piled at the bottom of the sea and reaches 27 meters above water.

Both Veracruz and Tamaulipas are under contracts that include equipment rental and full maintenance over nearly 4 years. The crew, which consists of 90 people, is made up of Pemex drilling employees, Grupo México per-sonnel providing technical support and people from other companies providing a variety of services.

A team of engineers from the Infrastructu-re Division was responsible for monitoring the whole process of construction, disassembly, transport and installation of the platforms.

DRILLINGThe modular platforms remain in each location for a period of three to five years. They can drill up to 15 wells on a single site, with the goal of extracting seven to nine thousand barrels of oil per well per day. The number of barrels depends on the nature of the deposit and the viscosity of the oil. Once ex-tracted, the hydrocarbon is pumped to processing platforms and/or to ships for sale or transfer to refineries on land.

A marine platform contains all of the machinery and structures necessary to drill, finish and/or repair oil wells.

The rail network has equipment on one side of the railway in order to optimize operations and safety. Its electrical consumption is 2,077,200 kilowatt-hours; however, of the 963 pieces of equipment installed, 743 are powered by solar energy, genera-ting 1,602,658 kilowatt-hours.

CLEAN ELECTRICITY

Green Railcar is a program of Ferromex, with support from the Grupo México Foundation, that seeks to support states and municipalities to promote the care and preservation of the environment. In selected schools, children and youth are invited to collect 1 kg of recoverable materials (PET, card-board, aluminum, etc.), which they exchange for a tree on the Green Railcar. The material collected is donated to a local civil association, which can benefit from its sale.

Since the start of its operations in 1998, Ferromex has been dedicated to significantly improving the efficiency of its trains in order to reduce operating costs, optimize fuel performance and reduce the environmental impacts of

its services.According to Engineer Francisco Arce, Environmental Engineering Manager for

Ferromex, among the most significant actions taken was the purchase of locomoti-ves that use new technology and are certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, as well as the installation of a smart system for starting and stopping existing locomotive engines (Automatic Equipment Start Stop, AESS).

DR. RAILCAR: FIRST TRIP 2016El Tren de la Salud visitó las poblaciones Naranjo, León Fonseca y Guamúchil del estado de Sinaloa. En esta ocasión, además de la atención médica gratuita, se ofrecieron los servicios de afiliación y re-afiliación al Seguro Popular, entre otros beneficios, que fueron acordados con las autoridades estatales de salud.


After three years of planning, research and a lot of hard work in preparation, May of 2014 saw the launch of this initiative that seeks

to contribute to improved health and quality of life for Mexicans, through timely screening, diagnosis and prevention. The program consists of a train outfitted as a traveling clinic that brings free medical services to the most far-flung and needy communities in Mexico. THE FACILITIESThe Health Train is made up of 11 railcars that were transformed, remodeled and repaired in the Ferromex shops. Dr. Railcar is outfitted with exam areas, a laboratory, a pharmacy, housing quarters, a living room, dining area, kitchen, laundry room, restrooms and storage area. It is important to note that it also has access ramps and accessible bathrooms for patients with different abilities. THE STAFFIn order to be able to get to the communities and provide medical care to their inhabitants, 38 peo-ple travel and live on the Dr. Railway train. # 10 Ferromex employees: operators, mechanics, cooks, cleaning staff, etc. # 28 healthcare professionals: general physicians, ultrasonographers, dentists, laboratory technicians and nurses, as well as a psychologist and an optometrist.

THE TRAVELS OF DR. RAILCARFrom May of 2014 to December of 2015, the Health Train has visited three communities in each of the following states:

LOGISTICSEvery journey of the Health Train covers a state of the Mexican Republic. Three communities are visited in each state and the train stays in each community for four days.

Ferromex is responsible for logistics, by studying the travel routes and the location of available side routes—auxiliary routes to the principal railway— so that Dr. Railcar can park without affecting normal rail traffic. SERVICESThe Health Train has the capacity to serve 250 people per day on a schedule of 6:00 a. m. to 5:00 p. m. In addition to a general exam and diagnosis of the health status of every patient, the healthcare provided on board the train is heavily oriented toward prevention of future illness.

The doctors keep charts on all of the patients seen. If needed, they provide medica-tions to initiate treatment and those needing care are referred to the respective local medi-cal institutions.

While people are waiting to be seen, a tent is installed outside the train with chairs and screens, which the doctors use to give Health Education workshops. Informational brochures are also distributed, covering issues such as nu-trition, obesity, hygiene, sexuality and domestic violence, among others.

THE IMPACTAs of December of 2015, Dr. Railcar had successfu-lly completed 19 trips, visiting 57 communities and providing care to more than 50,000 people, which has made it a very gratifying and enriching expe-rience for the medical staff as well as the Grupo México Foundation and Ferromex teams.

The contribution of the Health Train to peo-ple’s lives has been very valuable. Diagnoses have been made of hypertension, diabetes and obesity, which are the most common health problems in the country, and these cases are now fortunately being treated. The guidance and educational materials provided to the patients will also help them to take care of themselves and work toward a healthier life.

Outside the train, tents are set up with chairs and screens where doctors give Health Education workshops while people wait to be seen.

Ferromex has the largest fleet in the country to transport cargo from different segments of industry. Thanks to its capacity and the reach of its railway network, the Transportation Division has seen consistent growth in the last few years. En 2015, for example, cross-border service was increased, as was the number of cars loaded in the Intermodal, Automotive and Agriculture sectors, as well as the volumes of merchandise transported after import from the ports of Manzanillo and Veracruz to Mexico City.
