The Raptors have sent three first round draft picks to Summer League,including Andrea Bargnani (1st overall pick in 2006), and DeMar DeRozan (9th overall in2009). Joey Graham (drafted in 2005) is the only Raptor that has participated in the LasVegas Summer League twice.

TEAM NOTES

• RETURNING TO LAS VEGAS: Several players on this year’s summer league squad have played in LasVegas before. Nathan Jawai will become the second player to participate in the Las Vegas Summer Leaguetwice as a member of the Raptors. Jawai saw limited action last year because of a strained groin. JoeyGraham is the only other multi-year participant in 2005 and 2008. Quincy Douby is making his fourth visit toLas Vegas. Douby first played in 2006 with the Sacramento Kings and was limited to two games because ofa sore lower back. In 2008 he was third in scoring, averaging 22.3 points. Patrick O’Bryant makes his third trip

to summer league, after two stints with the Golden State Warriors. O’Bryant averaged 9.6 points and 4.2 rebound as a rookiein 2006, and followed up the next year by averaging 5.6 points and 5.8 rebounds with the Warriors in 2007. Ekene Ibekwe andBrent Petway are the other returning players from the 2008 Las Vegas Summer League. Ibekwe played in five games for thePhoenix Suns, while Petway was on the Memphis Grizzlies roster but did not play.

• FIRST ROUNDERS: Toronto’s last four first-round draft selections have all participated in summer league action. AndreaBargnani was the latest in 2006 when he averaged 13.2 points and 3.8 rebounds during five games in Las Vegas. Joey Grahamand Charlie Villanueva both participated in the Minnesota Pro Summer League in 2005. Graham averaged 14.5 points and 5.5rebounds in four games, while Villanueva averaged 17.3 points and 5.6 rebounds in three games. The Toronto Raptors finished with a 33-49 record,missing the postseason for the first time since the2005-06 season. The Raptors were 18-23 at homeand 15-26 on the road. Toronto set a franchise recordwith an .824 free throw percentage (1534-for-1861,first in the NBA). The .824 mark is the third-bestteam free throw percentage in NBA history. Torontofinished fifth in the NBA in averaging 23.0 assists.Toronto’s NBA record consecutive game streak withat least one three-point field goal made continuedand is now at 860. Toronto acquired forward JermaineO’Neal and the draft rights to centre Nathan Jawaiin exchange for guard T.J. Ford, forward RashoNesterovic, forward Maceo Baston and the draftrights to centre Roy Hibbert on July 9. Chris Boshreceived his fifth NBA Player of the Week for theweek of Oct. 28 – Nov. 2. Bosh scored 40 pointsand grabbed 18 rebounds November 18 at Orlando.Sam Mitchell was relieved of head coaching dutiesand assistant coach Jay Triano was named headcoach on an interim basis on December 3.Triano

finished the season with a 25-40 record. Chris Bosh was named to the All-Starteam for the fourth time in his career but didnot participate due to a sprained knee. OnFebruary 13, the Raptors traded centreJermaine O’Neal, forward Jamario Moon anda conditional draft pick to Miami for forwardShawn Marion, guard Marcus Banks andcash considerations. Jose Calderon becamethe all-time franchise leader in assists withhis 1,792nd as a Raptor on March 13 vs. De-troit. Toronto set a franchise-record for pointsMarch 29 in defeating the Chicago Bulls 134-129 in overtime. Jose Calderon had a fran-chise high-tying 19 assists March 29 vs.Chicago. The Raptors had a season-best six-game win streak from March 22 - April 4 andfinished the season with nine wins in the final 13 games. In the 27 games follow-ing the All-Star break, Toronto compiled a 12-15 (.444) record versus a 21-34(.382) mark prior to the break. Chris Bosh was one of three players in the NBA toaverage 20 points and 10 rebounds or assists (Dwight Howard, Chris Paul) in

scoring a career-high 22.7 points (firston the team, ninth in the NBA) andaveraging 10.0 rebounds (sixth in theNBA). Bosh also topped his personaland franchise record for double-doubles with 43 (previously 42). Boshalso set the franchise marks for freethrows made 504 and attempts 617.Jose Calderon led the team with 8.9assists per game (fourth in the NBA)and finished the season with the NBAsingle-season record for free throw per-centage (.981). Calderon also led theNBA with a 4.24 assist per turnoverratio.

2009-10 COACHING STAFF

Jay Triano was promoted to head coach and signed to athree-year contract May 11, 2009. He is the seventh headcoach in franchise history.

The 2009-10 campaign marks Triano’s eighth as a memberof the Raptors’ coaching staff. He served as an assistantto three coaches before being named interim head coach.He became the first Canadian born and Canadian trainedcoach in the NBA when he joined Lenny Wilkens’ staff forthe 2002-03 season.

Triano took over the head coaching duties on an interimbasis December 3, 2008 following the dismissal of SamMitchell. Triano guided the club to a 9-4 mark in its final 13outings in the 2008-09 season, and a 12-15 record afterthe all-star break. He finished 25-40 overall.

A native of Niagara Falls, Triano was the head coach of theCanadian men’s national team from 1998-2004 posting a52-42 (.553) record. He led Canada to a semifinal berth inthe 2003 FIBA Americas Olympic Qualifying Tournamentin Puerto Rico and to a 5-2 record, second best to theUnited States, in the 2000 Olympics. He has also servedas an assistant coach of the USAB Select Team (2007and 2008), the head coach of the NIKE Skills Academy inVancouver (2006) and Toronto (2007), and for the past sixyears as a coach at the prestigious EURO CAMP in Treviso,Italy.

Prior to becoming a NBA assistant coach, Triano workedin the league from 1995-2001 as a radio and televison analystand director of community relations for the VancouverGrizzlies. He moved to Toronto from Vancouver in 2001 towork as a basketball analyst for TSN.

Triano began his coaching career in 1985 as an assistantat his alma mater Simon Fraser University in Burnaby,British Columbia. He took over the school’s head coachingduties in 1988 and served in that capacity until 1995. In1992-93, he also worked as an assistant coach on theCanadian men’s national team and in 1993-94 he was thehead coach of the Canadian men’s junior national team.

During his collegiate playing career at Simon Fraser, Triano ledthe Clansmen in scoring all four seasons and set 11 schoolrecords, including the career scoring mark of 2,616 points. Hewas also a member of the football team during his senior season.In 1981, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the eighthround of the NBA Draft and by the Calgary Stampeders in thesixth round in the CFL Draft.

Following graduation, Triano played for the Canadian nationalteam for 11 years (1978-88) and was team captain from 1981-88. He represented Canada as a player on three Olympic teams(1980, 1984 and 1988), serving as captain for the last two.

Triano also wore his country’s colours internationally in the WorldUniversity Games in 1979, 1981 and 1983 where he led thetournament in scoring and Canada to the gold medal, and in1985 in Kobe, Japan where he carried the Canadian flag at theopening ceremonies.

Triano is a member of the Canadian Basketball, CanadianOlympic, Basketball British Columbia, Basketball Ontario, SimonFraser Athletic and Niagara Falls Halls of Fame.

In April 2005, Triano was honoured by the Raptors with the CoachMac Award, given annually to a member of the Canadianbasketball community who through exemplary character andeffort, has made a major contribution to the sport of basketballwhile upholding the principles for which Coach Mac stood –honesty, integrity, competitiveness and a love of the game.
