Name of Ride: Tour of the Falling Leaves Date: Saturday September 23rd Arrive at 1:00 p.m. for a 1:30 p.m. start. History and Roots Tour of the Falling Leaves edizione otto is modeled after the Giro d’Lombardia in northern Italy. The event unofficially signals the end of the professional cyclist’s year on the road. Our version appears a little earlier, owing the fact that our fall arrives a little earlier here than in Italy. In it’s inaugural year, over 40 riders braved strong north winds and fall temperatures to ride this close-of-the-season event. Lorraine’s home-baked biscotti and hot coffee/ tea/chocolate provided a warm welcome at the mid-point rest-stop. Then, after 60 kilometres, nearly 30 hungry riders finished the day with a trattoria-style dinner at the Finalmente Restorante. If you’ve missed it in the past - don’t miss out this year on this sensory overload of fall colour and fabulous food. Come out and enjoy the sound of crisp golden leaves crunching under rolling wheels, the heady tobacco-like aroma of autumn in the country, and the crisp clean air that signals that the end of the 2017 season is drawing near. Andiamo! Event start location – On Georgian Way just east of Sherwood Park Mall. This event is capped at a total of 80 riders. Please register with Scott at [email protected] or Char at [email protected] A fully supported 60 kilometre ride on the rural roads of Strathcona County. The rest-stop at South Cooking Lake will feature Lorraine’s home-baked biscotti with Coffee/Tea/Hot Chocolate. Char and Juliana World will once again offer up Italian delights such as Aranciata, Limonada, Chinotto, stuffed olives, antipasto, boconccini, salami, grapes, and cantaloupe. Return to The Pasta Pantry for a trattoria-style Italian meal (approximately 5:00 p.m.) Those wishing to dine with us must indicate their wishes in advance. Total numbers are limited to a maximum of 50, so book early. Maps of the course, restaurant location and directions will be emailed out and posted on the EBTC website as the date draws closer.
