TOURISM/VISITOR INFORMATION COUNSELLOR PROFILE
Tourism/Visitor Information Counsellors are an important link between the visitor and the service providers. It is a job of distinction and responsibility and as such, we count on all Tourism White Rock Counsellors to help fulfill our organization’s mandate as the official Destination Marketing Organization for the City of White Rock dedicated to develop tourism activities and to promote our community as a year-‐round tourism destination.

Tourism White Rock’s Information Counsellors are hired and trained to:
• Become Ambassadors for our Community, and bring value to local businesses, service providers and community organizations;
• Adhere to the highest professional industry standards and help keep our 2 White Rock Visitor Centres open 7 days a week in compliance with Destination BC’s (formerly Tourism BC) operation requirements;
• Perform essential community information services to travelers from around the World, and those local to our Country, Province, Region and Community;
• Assist newcomers, and those wishing to move to our area;
• Successfully complete the Tourism/Visitor Centre Counsellor Professional Certification Training Program delivered by a Destination BC Certified Trainer;
• Deliver a wide variety of information such as accommodations, recreation, events, attractions, way-‐finding, transportation, parks & natural areas, family-‐friendly activities, shopping, food & beverage, etc.;
• Actively engage in friendly and welcoming visitor services that help keep visitors in our area for a longer period of time and encourage them to refer our town to their friends and family.
Responsibilities: § Welcome visitors to the Visitor Centres; § Answer visitor enquiries in person, on the phone and online; § Assist visitors in planning their sightseeing activities; § Promote local tourism attractions, tours and businesses; § Provide accurate community information; § Acquire a sound knowledge of British Columbia’s different regions, publications and programs; § Monitor and maintain brochure racks and other publications; § Post current event information of interest to visitors & locals; § Maintain cleanliness and organization of the Tourism facilities; § Miscellaneous administrative duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Completion of secondary school is required; • A college diploma or vocational training in tourism is preferred; • Excellent communication and computer skills; • Good customer service skills; • Knowledge of attractions, events and the local area; • Research and social media skills; • Previous experience in sales and cash handling is an asset; • Inventory and administrative skills; • Excellent time management skills; • Knowledge of a second language is an asset.

Eligible Candidates
To be eligible, students must:
• be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
• have been registered as full-‐time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-‐time basis in the next academic year;
• be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act3; and,
• be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
Candidates must be outgoing and have excellent customer service skills, team skills and should feel confident promoting White Rock and area’s tourism products and services. Candidates must work well under pressure and demonstrate initiative. They also need to have a solid knowledge of the local area and tourism opportunities in the region.
About the Position • Applicants must be available for fulltime work commencing between May 1 -‐ 12, 2015 and
ending August 29th, 2015. • Applicants must also be available to work on a rotational shift work schedule including
weekends, statutory holidays and be available for the whole time specified. • Selected candidates will be provided with training and certification in the following: Destination
BC’s Visitor Information Counsellor Course and WorldHost Customer Service Workshop Series. • Hourly rate to be disclosed at the interview stage.
