About Berwick

For decades, Berwick was home to Prime Tanning, located on an eleven-acre site in the town center. Prime Tanning at its peak employed (300- 500) people. They operated a hide tannery from 1930 until 2007, when they closed. The site lay dormant for nearly a decade. During that time the Town applied for and received several Brownfield grants which allowed them to clean up any contamination on the site.

Berwick is currently working with Great Falls Construction from Gorham Maine to revitalize the Village Center to a mixed-use plan for 200+ apartments and 30+ commercial units, called The Edge at Berwick, Maine. The build out is expected to take place over the next five years. It is a unique and exciting opportunity for an up-and-coming Planner to be part of!
