TOWN OF GRAND LAKE NEWSLETTER
April 2014 Save the Date: May 17 Saturday 9:00 am - 1:00 p.m. Come
join us on Saturday, May 17 (the Town’s designated Arbor
Day) as we spruce up the town to make way for the sunny days
of spring and summer. Grand Lake’s annual town cleanup and
Arbor Day Celebration will be followed by a community BBQ/
pot luck at the Heckert Pavilion.
The Grand Lake Downtown Assessment identified 20 ingredi-
ents of an outstanding destination, including "creating a good
first impression: Community gateways, and downtown beautifi-
cation".
The entire community, non profits, town, and business owners are encouraged to get involved and
continue the community engagement and collaboration efforts.
Form a team and "adopt a project". Save the Date! It Takes a Village!
The Town of Grand Lake thanks three outgoing Trustees - Tom Weydert, Jim Peterson and Tom
Ludwig, for their dedicated service. Tom Weydert has been a Trustee since 1994 and has also
served on the Planning Commission and the Board of Adjustment during his tenure. Jim Peterson
served for 16 years as Trustee and Mayor Pro-Tem. Tom Ludwig was on the Board of Trustees for
over 3 years but moved out of town so was no longer eligible for re-election. All three will still be
living in the Grand Lake area but will pursue other endeavors while planning to remain involved in
the community.
We will miss their wisdom. During their long tenure Grand Lake has had many improvements, in-
cluding the Pay As You Throw trash program, Nightly Rental Licensing, annexation of the Grand
Lake Lodge, construction of the library and Visitor’s Center, lakefront improvements and several
planned developments. We wish them good luck in the future!

Did you know that where there is a lamppost on Grand Avenue, the garden below is adopted by a
local volunteer? Garden volunteers put countless hours into helping beautify the Town’s open
spaces. There are garden spots available for adoption; please contact Grand Lake Town Hall if
you are interested in participating in this volunteer program.
The Town of Grand Lake extends a heartfelt thank you to all volunteer gardeners for their com-
mitment to these public spaces.

How long have you lived in Grand Lake?
I have lived and worked in Grand Lake for the past 2 years. During the previous 12 years, I worked throughout Grand County and
resided in Winter Park, Fraser, Granby and for a short time in Hot Sulphur Springs.
What brought you to Grand Lake?
Family! The serene surroundings, mountain views, walks to the lake truly add to Grand Lake’s appeal but honestly, if my family
lived elsewhere – I would be where they are. Now that we’re here, Grand Lake is our home and this is where we will raise our kids.
We are so lucky to be part of the extended family that is the Grand Lake culture.
How did you get interested in local government?
I am naturally interested in what goes on where I live and work. I’m a listener and hear a lot about how people feel about things.
As someone who works here, I also see the need for change when it comes to our economy. I wanted to take a positive active ap-
proach and one of my first steps was attending the first community assessment meeting in January to identify ways to become in-
volved. With the trust of friends, family and other locals, I have found my place as a Town Board Trustee.
How has your background helped prepare you to be an elected official in Grand Lake?
My life has always involved being part of a community. I am service and people-oriented and I believe those traits give me a unique
perspective on what makes a group of people tick. I think Grand Lake’s size is a benefit because it gives me a target audience to
support – whether it’s from my position in the service industry and/or my interest in local government.
Do you have special hobbies or interests?
Homeschooling our kids, photography, poker, marketing, social media, disc golf.
Is there anything else you would like the public to know about you?
I truly believe that things can only change if something is done to change them. I would like to encourage the other members of our
community to try to find their own way to help improve Grand Lake and will gladly spend time with anyone who wants to make a
difference. I would also like to thank all of the great people who are already working so hard at trying to make a difference. It may
sound corny but I am an advocate of “For the People By the People!

How long have you lived in Grand Lake? Although my wife, Cindy, and I have only been in Grand Lake the last two years, we previously owned real estate and had busi-
nesses in Grand Lake. From the early 1980’s, we spent summers here working and vacationing. As a child, my parents and sibling
would vacation here in the summers, so I have memories of Grand Lake from the early 50’s.
What brought you to Grand Lake? After retiring, we sold everything and left Arizona in a motorhome. For over 4 years we toured most states, Canada and Alaska. In
2012 in passing through Grand Lake we realized this just felt like home, found a house for sale and purchased our current residence.
How did you get interested in local government? I have always been one to get involved. Whether building a new business, helping someone with a business difficulty or simply go-
ing out and meeting new people. I like to find something that will get me involved.
How has your background helped prepare you to be an elected official in Grand Lake? Business is business. Although, the operation of a town may have many different aspects to consider one still has to look at the pros
and cons of each decision. I have spent most of my adult life developing, managing and operating businesses and seeing how each
of my decisions can help or hurt the future of that business. Each decision one makes needs to be considered for its long term affect
and how it will apply to the residents of Grand Lake.
Do you have special hobbies or interests? I was lucky enough to have found a wife that had the same sense of adventure as myself. Over the past 40 plus years we have ex-
perienced skydiving and bungee jumping. We flew our own hot-air balloon and sailed boats in both the Pacific and Caribbean
oceans. However; horses and horseback riding, especially long-distance endurance riding has been our most avid event. We have
both done the 100 mile-one day Tevis ride 3 times. As an older person less willing to break things, my current interests are writing,
drawing and helping others.
Is there anything else you would like the public to know about you? I am always willing to help!
Lisa Jenkins
How long have you lived in Grand Lake?
13 years
What brought you to Grand Lake?
My family moved here when we built The Gateway Inn
How did you get interested in local government?
I started attending town workshops and meetings for my job with the GLACC and found myself reading packets and attending some
meetings even after my job no longer require it.
How has your background helped prepare you to be an elected official in Grand Lake?
My education, military background, 20+ years of business management, previous non-profit board positions, attendance at town
meetings over the past 3 years, and my knowledge and history of the town has helped to prepare me for this trustee position .
Do you have special hobbies or interests?
I love golf, kayaking, hiking, biking, and boating during the summer. Fall is my favorite time of the year for scenic drives and wild-
life viewing. During the winter months I snowshoe and snowmobile. I belong to several clubs and am involved in a few environ-
mental projects. With all of that, my kids are my number one interest!
Is there anything else you would like the public to know about you?
I look forward to serving Grand Lake as trustee for the next 4 years.
