Message from the Board President What a grand way to celebrate an exciting 50th season! The unveiling of the spectacular renovation of our beautiful theatre along with another record-breaking season as TPI continues to grow!! And just as a bonus, created a new blackbox theatre – TPI’s 2nd STAGE!

As I start a 5th year as president, I am overwhelmed by the level of support we have received from our members and patrons! From the brink of bankruptcy in 2009, a new Board and Staff emerged and brought a vision to increase production quality and enhance the patron’s experience. The change has produced amazing results! The success of rebuilding a theatre comes from the community taking this journey together.

We are halfway thru the $600,000 multi-year renovation of our theatre! As we opened our 50th Season, we unveiled the renovation of our theatre’s auditorium and lobby. It was completed in the short 10 weeks during the summer of 2014. This $150,000 phase of the renovation was made possible by a $75,000 Florida State Facilities Grant and the generosity of our supporters to match the $75,000 with donations!

As we start our 51st season, I am excited about the enthusiasm from new patrons and those that have supported TPI for many years. We had 960 MainStage season tickets for the 50th Season and as I’m writing this, we have already sold 1100 for this upcoming season. Due to this growing support, we have extended our MainStage season shows to run for 4 weekends! It’s a great problem to have!!

TPI Staff TPI is fortunate to have a great staff to manage and run the day-to-operations of our theatre! Congratulations to Steven and the team on a very successful 50th Season! Steven Heron - General Manager and Artistic Director Steven was hired as the General Manager and Artistic Director of the Titusville Playhouse in June 2011. Previously he was Creative Director for PGT Entertainment and Producing Artistic Director for The Cabaret and The Metro Dinner Theatres in Grand Junction, Colorado. Steven attended Auburn University with a major in Music Education with a vocal emphasis. Following college, Steven began a successful acting and singing career and is a current member of Actors Equity, having performed in every state in the USA and in many countries worldwide in hundreds of productions. After moving to the Space Coast in the fall of 2008, Steven wanted to get involved with the local theatre scene & has directed productions at TPI, Surfside, and the Henegar Center. Steven currently sits on numerous community and state Boards promoting the arts and Brevard County as a cultural destination. Jay Bleakney – Tech Director Jay was hired as TPI’s Technical Director in June 2012. He studied Art and Theatrical Arts in Europe and worked with ARD German Television, Frankfurter Musik Akademie, Hans Pop Productions in collaboration with local European governments, and the Pina Bausch Tanz Theater. His range of expertise includes Opera, Ballet, Modern Dance, and classical Theater. After his return to Florida, he worked with independent theater groups, designed short film projects, and worked for the Orlando Shakespeare Theater, the Orlando Ballet and the Cocoa Village Playhouse. Will Gibbons-Brown – Lighting & Sound Design William was hired TPI’s Lighting & Sound Designer in August 2014. He has spent over a decade building a resume in technical theatre, with a focus on Lighting Design. As a freelance designer his work has been seen Off-Broadway at the New York Theatre Workshops 4th Street Theatre. William was a finalist for the 2014 New Hampshire Theatre Award for Best Lighting Design for his design of the Weathervane Theatres production of Memphis. Page Howard – Office & Front-of House Manager Page was hired as TPI’s part-time Administrative Assistant in April 2013. She has taken on increasing responsibility and is now TPI’s full-time office and Front-of-House Manager.

TPI Property Acquisition

In November 2014, TPI was able to purchase the property next door at 311 Julia Street. “The Cottage” building was in foreclosure by HUD and with TPI’s non-profit status we were able to get priority in the bidding process. We purchased the property for $78,000 and use the building to house our Theatre Interns and also use as overflow Dressing Rooms for shows with large casts. Thanks to TD Bank for providing a $62,000 mortgage on the property.

TPI’s 2nd STAGE

This was our 1st season in a new venue space as we moved our Blackbox Theatre from upstairs in Emma’s Attic to across the street and created TPI’s 2nd STAGE! This new ground floor location allows improved access to more patrons due to the stairway access for Emma’s Attic. Emma’s Attic has now been converted to a much needed rehearsal room! TPI’s Blackbox theatre provides a very close and intimate experience between the performers and the audience. The 2nd Stage had a record season with 5 shows and a total Attic attendance of 1,600, including 157 2nd Stage Season Tickets! .

TPI’s Rising Stars is our theatre education and outreach programs for students. This year TPI continued its summer Rising Stars program call “Steps to Broadway” for 7th-12th grade students. This four week intensive theatre camp includes students mounting a Broadway style production.

During the school year, TPI Rising Stars provides a Fall and Spring session for 1st-8th grade students. This youth program empowers our students with confidence, creative thinking, teamwork and performance skills. These are 10-week sessions with classes on Saturday mornings that allow students to discover their talents or take their talents to a new level.

Theatre Improvements

This year TPI continued its $600,000 multi-year renovation and expansion project to improve the technical systems and facility infrastructure of the Titusville Playhouse.

Summer 2014: Completed PHASE II, which included a complete remodel of the MainStage auditorium and lobby. New seats, tabletops, carpet, wall coverings, lighting, chandeliers, ceiling tiles, and a loop hearing impaired system.

This $150,000 phase of the renovation was possible because of a $75,000 Cultural Facilities grant from the State of Florida Division of Cultural Affairs. The matching $75,000 was raised from our theatre patrons – several fundraisers including Sponsor-A-Chair, a New Car Raffle, and our 50/50 Raffle throughout the season. Thank you for supporting us!!!!

FUN FACT: As a cultural collaboration, we have invited the TITUSVILLE ART LEAGUE to display paintings from local artists on the new art gallery areas we created on the sidewalls of the theatre. New paintings are hung for each Mainstage production.

January 2015: As part of our Phase III of the renovation, TPI purchased a new sound system including a speaker array system and a new digital sound control board for $30,000. The system has made a huge difference in the sound quality of the theatre!
