THE SCHOOL DISTRICTS READING INITIATIVES FOR 2014-2015 will be the focus of SEAS programming this year. Performances will integrate Reading, literature and language Arts with the Florida Standards curriculum connections. look for the Reading Based icon on select performances.
STUDY GUIDES AND RESOURCE MATERIALS are distributed to each contact person prior to attending performances with their students.
SEAS PLUS workshops were developed to extend each student’s theater experience while making valuable curriculum connections. look for the SEAS Plus icon on select performances.
SEAS ON TOUR is a great way to enrich your students’ arts experience and bring the thrill of a live performance to your school
EVALUATION FORMS are distributed at each performance. Narratives on how a performance was integrated within the classroom curriculum are requested.
TRANSPORTATION COSTS are partially subsidized by the school district. Schools are responsible for the current rate of $94.00 per bus (subject to change).
THE ARTS FOR THE FUTURES SCHOLARSHIP FUND provides scholarships to graduating seniors in Broward County Public Schools. Each year, over $55,000 is awarded to students who will pursue the arts in their post-secondary education.
STARS ON PARADE showcases outstanding high school performers from the Broward School District. the highlight will be the presentation of the Arts for the Future Scholarships.
SEAS READING RESIDENCIES ensure that title i second and fourth grade students attend performances of selected stories from the District Basal Reading Curriculum.
WORKSHOPS AND MASTER CLASSES will be offered by the Broward Center for the Performing Arts to students and teachers interested in dance, classical music, Broadway and more.

Making Curriculum Connections. Extending the Experience. Exploring Ideas.Add to your students’ experience this season with SEAS Plus, our pre and post-show, interactive workshops that build on the themes and content from select performances and extend that experience through small group, hands-on workshops that are led by our professional teaching Artists.
Each 40-minute workshop incorporates a variety of art forms, such as storytelling, music, dance, circus arts and drama, and gives your students an opportunity to participate in a rich, exploratory experience that is imaginative, collaborative and fun. A SEAS Plus study guide will be included to expore activities from the workshop as well as offer new activities for integration into the classroom.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Student Workshop and Master ClassDon’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to meet and study with dancers from one of America’s iconic dance companies, Alvin Ailey American Dance theater.
Returning to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts for the 2014-2015 season, this world-renowned dance company was founded in 1958 by dancer, choreographer and visionary Alvin Ailey with the intention of bringing African-American cultural expression and the American modern tradition to the world.
this season, in conjunction with their February 2105 engagement, Alvin Ailey American Dance theater will be conducting a Student Workshop and a Master Class. Both classes offer an opportunity to explore the Horton technique created by Alvin Ailey’s mentor, lester Horton, which is a codified modern dance technique which aims to fortify, stretch and strengthen the human body.

Witness the wonder of live theater and discover the magic behind the curtain, too. Apply to become a member of the teen Ambassador Program today! High school students have the opportunity to attend free professional performances, master classes and workshops presented by the Broward Center. After attending performances or workshops, students will be asked to share their experiences by writing reviews and making posts on social media sites. Since 2010, the Broward Center has hosted the teen Ambassador Program. Each year, more than 20 lucky students from public, private, parochial, virtual and home schools are selected to participate in this unique program, which enables students to gain behind-the-scenes knowledge of the arts and see live performances at a world-class venue.

SmARTS classes for babies and toddlers provide parents and young children with an integrated approach to early childhood learning that fuses creative movement, music, props, storytelling, drama and art appreciation into an engaging and developmentally appropriate class. Our teachers create an experiential learning environment for your little ones that focuses on gross motor skills, musicality and language development while encouraging positive social interaction.
BABY SmARTS (ages 12–24 months) $200Wednesdays 9:30–10:15 a.m.
Growing up with the arts starts with music and movement, rhymes and rhythm. Little ones and parents/caregivers engage in songs, books, rhymes, puppets and parachute activities. While using simple props and activities to enhance coordination, socialization, pre-literacy and verbal skills, we keep in mind our primary goal—fun.

TODDLER SmARTS (ages 18–36 months) $200 Wednesdays 10:30–11:15 a.m.
Parent and child enjoy an interactive music and movement experience. Children learn, run, bounce, jump and giggle while enhancing their musicality and developmentally appropriate locomotor skills. This enriching class increases a child’s awareness of the arts and broadens his or her sense of music and movement, introducing simple instruments combined with play. Learn engaging activities you can continue at home.

They then use these skills to put on a show! Students from two age groups will perform together in one show on March 16. Our spring title is Annie KIDS and will be performed in the JM Family Studio Theater.
Annie KIDS: Based on the popular comic strip by Harold Gray, Annie has become a world-wide phenomenon and was the winner of seven Tony Awards including Best Musical. It is now adapted for young performers in Annie KIDS. The score features some of the greatest musical theater hits ever written including “Tomorrow.” This class is offered in partnership with the Performance Project School of the Arts. *Fee includes script, CD, and basic costume

This exciting class teaches students what it takes to be a triple threat on stage. Each week students focus on singing, dancing and acting while learning songs and choreography from a wide range of Broadway musicals. Team-taught by a professional music director and a professional choreographer, this class teaches students basic dance terminology and steps, voice and diction techniques, and a variety of acting and improvisational activities that give students the opportunity to explore all three performing disciplines. Family and friends are invited to a showcase at the end of the session in the JM Family Studio Theater.Teaching artists: Tammy Holder and David Rosales

This group voice class is the perfect place for any child who loves to sing. Kids’ Cabaret provides students with the opportunity to sing songs from some of Broadway’s greatest composers, while also learning proper vocal and breathing techniques. In addition, students are coached on how to act out a song and present themselves on stage. Basic music theory instruction is included in each class. All levels are welcome as students have the opportunity to sing in a group and also explore their specific skill level through solos and duets. Family and friends are invited to a showcase of work at the end of the session in the JM Family Studio Theater.

MUSICAL THEATER SINGING (ages 12–18) $300

This group vocal class is the perfect place for teens who love to sing. Musical Theater Singing provides students with the opportunity to sing songs from some of Broadway’s greatest composers while also learning proper vocal and breathing techniques. In addition, students are coached on how to act out a song and present themselves on stage. Basic music theory instruction is included. All levels are welcome as students will sing in group numbers and also explore their specific skill level through solos and duets. Family and friends are invited to a showcase of work at the end of the session in the JM Family Studio Theater.

An exciting opportunity for our teens to perform in a full-length musical production. Known as one of Broadway’s most memorable musicals and greatest love stories, West Side Story will come alive on the stage of the Amaturo Theater. Advanced techniques in acting, dance and singing will be integrated into the rehearsal process. This class and show are offered in partnership with the Performance Project School of the Arts.

BROADWAY EXPERIENCE (ages 12–18) $350

The Broadway Experience is an innovative series of workshops designed to give students access to musical theater instruction unique to the Broward Center. Weekly sessions feature special guest artists and cover a variety of musical theater topics that take students behind the scenes including: How to Audition, Technical Theater, Dance Workshops, Songwriting/Playwriting, The Business of Show Business and The Art of Performing. In this class, students have the opportunity to work with artists from the national tours of Disney’s The Lion King and Motown The Musical and interact with guest artists from Broadway in workshops live or via distance learning from NYC. This class offers something for everyone who loves Broadway. All levels are welcome. These workshops are always interactive and you may be “on your feet” for demos or seated for lectures depending on the week’s topic and guest.

BROWARD CENTER SPOTLIGHTS Performing Vocal EnsembleBy audition only.(ages 12–18) $350Saturdays 1:30–3:00 p.m.
The Broward Center Spotlights is a new and exciting performing vocal ensemble that performs at Broward Center events and throughout the community. This ensemble combines singing and dancing in the performance of musical theater repertoire. Students develop greater musicianship, proper use of breath support, phrasing, song interpretation, stage presence, basic choreography and other important musical theater disciplines all while representing the new and innovative arts education programming found only at the Broward Center.
Auditions: Wednesday, December 10 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Saturday, December 13 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and Wednesday, January 7 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. To sign up for an audition please e-mail [email protected] with your name, age and contact information as well as the preferred date to audition. BALLROOM DANCE WITH LEE FOX 5-week session plus Ballroom Dance Party $100
Dancers of all levels benefit from instructor Lee Fox’s experience, top-notch instruction and a fun and welcoming atmosphere. Singles and couples are welcome. No experience required. The class culminates in an evening of ballroom dance in the stunning new Porter Riverview Ballroom in March 2015.

Improvisation skills are incredibly important for both the aspiring and working actor, as well as anyone who wants to improve self-confidence. In this improvisation class, students experience the power of play and the fun of improvisational comedy in an encouraging and comfortable environment.

This class focuses on developing acting skills through scenes and monologues from standard theater repertoire. Through class exercises and scene work, students explore the dramatic arc, define intentions, learn text analysis, create a character and increase physical and vocal range. Physical and vocal warm-up exercises are a part of each session. In addition, each student receives audition material tailored to his or her type, personality and strengths. Each student walks away with a new repertoire and a new-found confidence.

This group vocal music class is designed for adults of all ages who enjoy singing and wish to improve their vocal technique. Bursting with the excitement of live musical theater, Summer Theater Camp will make your rising star shine! Discover an oasis of creativity, learning and laughter for students ages 6 through 18. The Broward Center once again partners with the Performance Project School of the Arts to provide an encouraging environment to nurture your child’s passion for the theater.
Under the direction of artistic professional and teaching veteran Nina Felice, campers will gain hands-on experience in musical theater, acting, dance, voice and technical production. With three locations (Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Aventura Arts & Cultural Center and Old Davie School), two sessions and age-specific groups and shows, there is no reason to miss out on the fun. Each session culminates with a live performance in a professional theater. Plus, every camper performs because everyone is cast in the show. As they experience the joy of live musical theater, they build self-confidence, engage their imaginations and learn the importance of teamwork.
