December 10, 2020

Dear Prospective Partner,

Thank you so much for the opportunity to be considered for support by your company as we work to change the lives of retired racehorses. CoExist Stables opened in June of 2018 with a mission to create a place where all riding disciplines, as well as all levels of riders can learn from each other in a friendly and safe environment. Our riders include individuals, families and students who come for lessons or to board their horses in our beautiful 30 acre setting. We attract customers locally from Mt. Airy, Frederick and Columbia, as well as from as far as Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Here at CoExist, we are embarking on our second year of participation in the Retired Racehorse Project (RRP). To take our work to the next level, we have created a 501c3 non-profit (Tax ID-52 186 5244) through the Community Foundation of Carroll County. This project not only allows us to adopt and foster off the track racehorses, but it provides our world class trainers an opportunity to teach these horses a new career while fostering an appreciation of this beautiful breed of horse with our students. In our newly established TRACS (Thoroughbred Retraining at CoExist Stables) non-profit program, one of our goals is to compete in the national RRP competition at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. Through our training, these horses will make a great showing across multiple disciplines. To make this hope a reality, we are looking for your potential generosity to help these horses in this unique transition to their second lives.

Any contribution would be much appreciated in our quest for Kentucky. We hope you can join team TRACS as we transition from the finish line to the podium.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Tonti and James HillmanOwners- CoExist StablesFounders- Team TRACS

retired racetrack project“The Retired Racktrack Project exists to facilitate the placement of Thoroughbred ex-racehorses in second careers by increasing demand for them in equestrian sports and serving farms, trainers, and organizations that transition them.” The Thoroughbred Retraining at CoExist Stables (TRACS) looks to take the spirit of the mission of the RRP, and foster a new beginning for selected retired racehorses from the Maryland and Pennsylvania racetracks. Through care and training, the CoExist team will work to change the lives of these horses. Check out the RRP at www.retiredracehorseproject.org. We hope you are able to join us in this journey!

Mary Roby specializes in off track thoroughbreds. She has close to 20 years of equine experience having competed in equitation, hunters and western pleasure since she was a young girl. She transitioned over to dressage and eventing back in 2014; now she is a novice event rider and first level dressage rider. She aspires to continue to go up the levels in both eventing and dressage, including gaining her bronze medal in dressage and compete in a long format events in 2021. She is excited to join the RRP team!

Desi Freeman is the oldest member of the TRACS team, is originally from upstate New York and grew up with horses. At the age of five she started riding, and throughout her childhood, she was trained in western, hunters, equitation and dressage. In college she tried out for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association team at State University of New York at Oswego and competed for four years. After settling down and beginning her veterinarian practice, she continued her love for horses in a casual environment. This past year she has rekindled her first love and started competing locally in the hunter arena with Coexist Stables. She is excited to embark on the Retired Race Project with her CoExist stable family in the year 2021!

Elizabeth Tonti is the co-owner of CoExist Stables and co- founder of team TRACS. With over thirty years of experience in the equine world from Florida to Maryland competing, training, instructing, and running a stables she is the perfect person to captain the RRP team. She has been riding since she was three and eventing in hunters and dressage since age five. This will be Elizabeth’s second year with the RRP, and also her second year training and showing off track thoroughbreds. Her knowledge and experience, as well as her love of horses make her an excellent caregiver, instructor and trainer. She hopes TRACS will be a succesfull program for years to come!

Alexandra Tonti grew up riding since the time that she could walk. Beginning with pony games, she has loved competing up and down the east coast and Kentucky since she was four years old. A member of Pony Club, She has been competing in hunters, equitation and most recently jumpers. Her most exciting moment was competing in an A-rated show, placing 10th out of 50 people. She has been very successful in her showing, even though her philosophy is not about the wins, but about the experience gained. She has trained two off track thoroughbreds, which took her to the RRP last year. She is looking forward to the experience again this year.

Kelly is the youngest rider (and only man) on the TRACS team. He has been riding horses since he was eight in both western and english styles. Kelly just began competing this year in both hunters and equitation, but he is a quick study and a very athletic young man competing at the highest levels of both hockey and lacrosse in both club and high school. Kelly is very excited to join in the RRP experience.

RIDER

A thoroughbred is a horse breed best known for its use in horse racing. They are considered as “hot-blooded” horses known for their agility, speed, and spirit. This breed of horse first came to North America in the 1730’s from England where they were originally crossbred in the 17th and 18th century by English mares and Oriental stallions from Arabia, Barb and Turkoman.

The horses chosen for the TRACS team come straight from the racetrack. Some have raced only the Summer, others have raced for multiple years. Each of them have their own unique personality that will be exciting to work with.

EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES

To foster young thoroughbred horses, it takes many different categories of need. From the grain and hay they eat, to the supplements to make them stronger, to the farrier and vet services that keep them healthy. These animals require a lot of care and attention to ensure their livelihood beyond the racetrack.

Each service provided to our four horses are from well known vets and farriers in our region. The travel and fees listed provide our trainers/riders and horses with the funds needed to travel to shows in preparation for Kentucky.

Grain is the food provided to horses in the morning and evening as part of their daily meals.

Hay is a food for horses as much as grain. Provided twice daily, and bedding provides a soft place in the stall if they need to lie down.

Regular shots and check ups are just as important for horses as they are for people.

Travel includes lodging, food, and gas to participate in the RRP.

Supplements provide the extra vitamens needed to ensure the horses growth and strength.

Farrier services are needed for horses to ensure helathy feet and hooves.

In order to ride a horse, equipment and supplies are needed such as saddles and other forms of tack.

All horseshows have associated fees to participate including the RRP.

PLATINUMGOLDSILVER

The TRACS 501c3 non-profit (Tax ID-52 186 5244 )is a fund of the Community Foundation of Carroll County. TRACS has three different donation levels ranging from silver to platinum. Each level provides the funder with separate options to see their support dollars at work. Beyond just support levels, we have found that supporters also like to provide funding specifically for the care of the horses including grain, hay, bedding, farrier and veterinarian services. All donations are a tax write off with the tax ID above. Please see budget break down

Each supporter at any level of the TRACS program will receive a certificate of support, as well as some sort of recognition. We value everyone’s contribution to our mission whether small or large as it only provides a future for these amazing horses.
